Late into my pregnancy, my husband and I decided to hire A Joyful Journey to help guide us through the birth of our first child. From our first meeting with Andrea and Marissa, I knew we were in capable hands. We learned so much about labor and delivery, what to expect, and the different options available to us, bit for me and our baby. Marissa helped us write a "birth plan" that could be used as a guide during labor. This process really helped me prepare, as best I could anyways, for labor and delivery. Although I knew I was going to be induced, my intention was to have a pain med free birth. I was in the hospital for 2.5 days before my son was born. I had contractions every 2 minute for about 18 hours, with consistent back labor. Andrea and Marissa were incredibly supportive the entire time, alternating shifts, but never missing a beat. There are so many emotions you experience during this time, it's hard to describe them all, but our experience was so positive, and for me, so empowering, and we owe that to Andrea and Marissa. Their role as a Doula requires sacrifice, their time, their energy, even their own personal comfort ( I can't imagine applying counter pressure for so long is easy!). We now have a healthy baby boy, and, should we decide to have another baby, we would absolutely hire A Joyful Journey again!
Marissa assisted me through my unmedicated VBAC when I had my second son. I had all the techniques I needed, but I really dont know if I could have done it without her being there with me the entire time. Just when I started questioning myself she would say and do just what I needed her too, amd I will be forwver grateful! If you are questioning the value and worth of having a doula by your side, let me tell you...it is so worth it!
I had the pleasure of meeting Marissa through a mutual friend. She was so sweet and Knowledgeable - we hit it off instantly. I thought she'd be a wonderful asset to our office so we decided for her to teach the Bradley method classes there! They were a huge success and her biggest class yet! After learning from Marissa during class, I knew I wanted her to be our doula and help us through our home birth. This was our first child and my husband and I turned to Marissa for guidance and support. The morning of my birth, Marissa was the first person over from my team. I also had Cathy as our midwife assistant. Marissa rubbed my back and coached me through the entire birth. She was a true champion and very calm! She was just what we needed. I still to this day can pick up the phone and talk to her. She's forever our doula and friend. We are so thankful for all that she has provided for us and our sweet baby Jude. I would highly recommend her for any birth and birthing class.
Marissa is the most wonderful doula. She is kind, caring, loving, and understanding. She is incredibly knowledgeable and could give answers and advice about anything that came our way. I had a very long and trying labor and would have never made it through without her. Not only was she there with us during labor, but she checked in and answered questions and concerns at any time postpartum. Her experience and expertise is amazing. I would definitely recommend her to anyone and will hire her again if we are blessed enough to have another child. Marissa is the best and we love her!
Cathy and Andrea are a phenomenal team. I had the great privilege of having both of them help me as I labored and when my little girl came in to the world. They are both very capable at making you feel empowered to accomplish whatever birth you would like. For me, I wanted a natural birth and with their help I was able to achieve just that. Andrea provided much needed physical and mental support during the beginning of my labor. As things intensified (and after many hours had passed) Cathy's words of encouragement, use of essential oils, and support in my decisions about what I needed to do to help my labor progress (getting in a tub of water vs. walking the floor like my midwife wanted) all helped me to have an incredible experience. I look back (8 days later now) at my birth and I have nothing but warm memories. I feel like Cathy and Andrea are dear friends that were with me in one of the most precious and sacred moments of my life. You will not regret choosing A Joyful Journey Doula Services to help you accomplish whatever birth you choose. I know I don't!
My experience with Andrea and Cathy was wonderful. They were very supportive and always available to answer questions even after I had my baby. Andrea stayed for the entire birth and until I was moved up to the rooms. It has been a few months since I gave birth but we still keep in touch. I have come to know them both as good friends.
