Emilee is an amazing doula! I actually hired Black Rabbit doulas pretty far into my pregnancy since I originally just wanted a doula just for the birth of my son... I didn't realize what they might provide before the actual birth!  I had a relatively uncomplicated pregnancy, but then discovered shortly before the birth that my son was breech.  Emilee had helpful suggestions for ways to get him to turn, though unfortunately he was stubborn.  I wanted to avoid a c-section more than anything, so when my OB asked if I wanted to schedule an external version, I didn't know what to do because I had heard they can be quite painful and not necessarily successful.  I called Emilee and she talked me through my options, helping me sort out what I wanted for myself (which ended up being a successful version).  I never realized how alone I was feeling in my pregnancy until I had Emilee to talk to.  It was nice to have someone to answer questions and help me figure out what I wanted.

Emilee was amazing during the birth of my son.  I am certain that having her there helped me not have a c-section.  I had to be induced, which made me worry since I am aware of how frequently inductions lead to c-sections, but Emilee kept me focused.  There was a moment when my son was crowning (after I had been pushing for over 2 hours) and I was just exhausted and in so much pain despite the epidural.  I looked at her, and didn't have to say a word - she could see it in my eyes that I wanted to give up.  She told me to keep going, not to give up, that he was almost there... I could do it. Honestly, I'm not 100% sure anymore if she said those words out loud or conveyed them with the look she was giving me, but in that moment she gave me the strength to continue despite the pain.  I will always be grateful for her presence in that moment!

If I have any more children, I would hire Emilee in a second!

Emilee is an amazing doula!!!! I appreciated throughout my pregnancy, our childbirth class, my labor, our postpartum visit and lactation consultation, that any questions I had were answered with unbiased information. I never once felt judged.

During my labor:The attitude of the nurse I had for the majority of my labor was so bad, I actually considered asking for a different nurse. I was already grateful to have Emilee at my birth, having a mean nurse made me even more appreciative. I can't imagine how badly that nurse's attitude and words would've affected my labor if we hadn't had the support we had from Emilee. When I was reflecting on my labor it hit me that hiring a doula was one of the smartest things I did. If I had had to look to the nurse for support or heck even just looking for a friendly face I would've been disappointed and discouraged. I didn't get to pick my nurse, but I did get to pick my support team (my husband, Emilee & my midwife).

I joked with Wayne (my husband) that Emilee was worth every penny just for the massage she did on my lower back during contractions...haha She knew exactly what I needed to hear when I needed to hear it. She was great at giving my husband direction on how to support me as well. It is funny as I type this I realized that she did a great job of being present when I needed her, and almost disappearing to give my husband and I moments together. We were also grateful for her support when things didn't go according to plan. I remember chatting with her and my husband and making jokes (my way of coping) while we waited to hear back about what our next step would be.

I enjoy hearing my husband rave about our doula experience and encourage others to hire one, because he was skeptical at first when I told him that I wanted to hire a doula.

I can't say enough kind things about Emilee. She helped me through pregnancy, labor and delivery, and all things post partum, and I absolutely could not have done any of it without her. We had a hard time with breastfeeding and Emilee was there with advice and support whenever I needed her. She really goes above and beyond to help any way she can. She is extremely knowledgeable and knows all sorts of people and businesses related to babies and pregnancy that can offer any specialized help or service you might need. Not only is she full of advice and knowledge, but she is very passionate and caring and provides a personalized experience without judgment. She's everything you could ever want in a doula and more!

Emilee was a wonderful doula! She headed over as soon as I needed her. I had hard labor for 18 hours and for probably 17 of those hours she was pushing as hard as she could on my back to relieve the pain for me and she spoke calmly to me through each contraction,  reassurring me that I was doing a great job and that I could get through it.  She exhausted herself to keep up with me and I will forever be grateful for that.  I would recommend Emilee to anyone looking for a doula.

I chose Emily and her partner as my birth doula team because they seemed like people I would want to be friends with. They were personable and knowledgeable throughout the entire process - before, during, and after labor. I was also very pleased with the respect they showed my husband. Emily really encouraged his participation in the labor process and provided him some simple suggestions as labor progressed. I was really glad I hired Emily as my birth doula!

Emilee is an AMAZING doula!!! She was always available to answer my questions before birth and even postpartum with lactation. She is a great resource and has an abundance of knowledge to draw from. On the day of my baby girl's birth, her calming presence was a game changer! I got to the hospital at a 6 and wanted to labor by myself in the tub. When I got out of the tub I was at an 8 and wanted my doula, my birth photographer and my midwife there PRONTO! I know, leave it to last minute right? But I didn't want people waiting and just looking at me while I wanted to labor in the tub. It all worked out amazingly though. Emilee came in a few minutes later and brought with her a renewed energy into the room and fresh eyes. She saw me standing next to the bed and exhausted. She suggested going to the toilet to sit because I didn't want to sit on the bed anymore. There are few people who you can hold on to during a contraction...while pooping? Emilee is the kind of a woman. I held onto her during several contractions while in the bathroom. As humiliating as that sounds, there was no shame because Emilee's attitude towards birth and the power of the women's body. She knew what had to happen to get baby out. We got back to the bed and Emilee was right there the whole way through contractions, being that voice to remind to keep my noises low, keep my hips open and my leg up.

One thing that I thought was really awesome about Emilee was that her support for me wasn't about her...that she's the doula, she's helping and this is "her birth" to be the doula...at one point, she got my husband and told him to hold my hand and what to do. I really loved that. She helped my husband be more involved in the birth and was "doulaing" him as well. Emilee is an incredible doula! Her role as a doula at my birth made a huge impact on my little girl's arrival into the world!!!

Emilee is absolutely wonderful. As a first time mom without family nearby, I needed someone compassionate and knowledgeable to help me with my newborn baby girl. She consistently goes above and beyond! I have learned so much from her and she's made the transition into motherhood so much easier. I consider myself lucky to have found her. She's a true gem in Kansas City.
