Mary Wilkinson

We were privileged to work with Christa throughout our pregnancy and delivery.  I wanted to have as few interventions as possible in labor but being a first time mom, I wasn't sure what variables would be a part of my experience.  In our two prenatal visits with Christa, she spent several hours getting to know us and discussing our expectations and anxieties about labor.  We practiced many different comfort measures and worked through a birth plan with her which improved my confidence and helped me feel capable and well supported to have the birth I wanted.  I ended up being 12 days overdue and had to be induced.  Thankfully the induction methods kick-started a natural labor pattern for me and Christa joined us when i began active labor at midnight.  She was right by my applying gentle massage, modeling how to breathe and vocalize through contractions, guiding me through different positions, holding my hands, speaking reassurances, and helping me to soften areas of tension.  She reminded me to drink water, use the bathroom, and breathe especially when I lacked focus through difficult contractions.  She also empowered my husband to support me and he was confidently invested in the entire experience with me.  He jokes that Christa was my epidural; we couldn't have done it without her.  Finally after laboring for 8 hours through the night, our baby boy was born at 8lbs 14 ozs.  Christa remained with us for an hour or so after birth to help with initiating breastfeeding and share in the excitement.  We were so grateful to have her with us throughout this experience and would highly recommend her to any other expectant parents.
