Susan K Mossman is the sweetest, most caring, diligent, steadfast, and knowledgeable doula I know. As many people know, I went through most of my pregnancy with Selene alone thanks to the Marine Corps. Susan was there checking in on me multiple times a month. She coached me on how to deal with my emotions, how to phrase questions for my midwife, how to prepare to potentially birth my daughter without my husband, and all in all became an amazing friend. I had 12 whole hours of very intense and painful false labor with Selene three ish weeks before she was actually born. She set up my birth space for me. When I say did it for me I mean she swept and then inflated my pool and taped up my pictures and all. Susan was there almost the whole time. We walked my neighborhood in the dark under the light of the moon. She let me push into her and supported me as I had contraction after contraction that failed to pushed Selene down because she was stuck on my pelvic bone. She used her magic rebozo to move her out of a posterior position because DANG that position hurts. She held me and made sure I didn’t completely crumble under the absolute defeated feeling when we realized those twelve hours were just false labor and that Selene wasn’t ready yet. She wouldn’t let me apologize even though I tried. She pumped me up for the remainder of my pregnancy and kept checking in and offering advice .When birth day finally came she was beyond a necessity. She helped Chris give me counter pressure on my hips, which was the only thing that gave me true comfort. She has just taught him the technique a few days prior. She talked to me and calmed me and kept me focused. She facilitated all I needed. She even caught my puke. She helped in every feasible way. She’s so caring and strong and such an amazing light. I don’t know how I could’ve handled my birth, but especially the 12 hours of false labor and pregnancy mostly alone, without her
I cannot say enough great things about Susan ?? She was such a great supporter and helped me have the birth I so desperately wanted! I recommend her 1000 times over ??
My husband scrunched up his nose when I first mentioned having a doula for our delivery. It made him uncomfortable to think about having another stranger in our delivery room and in our prental process. It made him feel like I wouldnt need him there. I convinced him to just try meeting with one doula I had read about online. He cautiously agreed. We met with Susan for an hour over coffee, asking questions of each other. When we got to the car, my husband had a smile on his face. He said "I like her. We can hire her. I like her personality and think she will help." He went from wanting nothing to do with the idea, to wanting to participate in the prenatal appointments and trainings with Susan.
Our delivery was fast and hard. We actually didn't get to use most of what we had learned because I delivered so fast. However, Susan was instumental in a different way. She gave my husband so much confidence, support, strength, and comfort. We both raved about how the vibe was different in the delivery room because she was there. I knew my husband was being supported by her and I didn't have to worry about him through delivery. When we'd be left alone for a minute by staff, Susan was there to make sure we never felt alone/abandoned and starting working on comfort techniques immediately. She didn't just become our doula, she became our friend. She was available anytime via phone and even went so far above and beyond when my little had breastfeeding issues. My OB even mentioned to me months later how much she liked Susan and she wanted to recommend her to other patients.
Susan is kind, respectful, available, an advocate, knowledgable, and passionate. You cant go wrong with her. I didn't have to worry about ANYTHING. She took care of it all. I'd hire her again, and recommend her to others, in a heartbeat.
Susan is an incredibly helpful and caring doul. She was my first experience using a doula and wish I would’ve known about her with my other births. With my husband deployed and 3 toddlers while pregnant she made it possible to not only finish the pregnancy with peace of mind but also have a fun and relaxing labor as well as birth. Her knowledge and calming demeanor made this birth the best experience I’ve ever had especially with my major support system (husband) gone. If I were to change one thing about my last preg it would be to have found Susan sooner!
I first met Susan at a birth class that she was teaching. I instantly knew I wanted her by my side during the birth of my child. She met with me and my husband several times and brought us material to read and watch. She was always quick to respond to my messages. Susan helped us create and follow my birth plan. I would hire her again to be my doula! I can not say enough good things about her.
Where do I start? Susan is an incredible woman. Her energy is calming and confident and I knew the moment I met her that she was a great match for me....as she would be for anyone. My husband was deployed for the birth of our daughter and susan offered her services free of charge. That alone says a lot about her passion for being a doula. I was induced for my first child and was nervous going into a second induction as my first was a very long 41 hour labor. My goal was an unmedicated birth and I wanted to be able to move around. Susan helped me push through the moments when I thought I just couldn't go on naturally. She put me in the right state of mind and helped me achieve my goal. She talked me through my fears and gave me the courage to carry on. 6.5 hours into the induction, my baby girl was born. Susan was such a calming, comforting energy in the delivery room. In fact, all I remember was her, no one else, even with my mother being in the delivery room! I highly recommend Susan to be a part of anyone's birthing experience. I will never forget the empowerment I felt, the courage and strength that I felt and I truly believe I could not have done it without susan at my side!!!
I am a Doula in Clearfield, Utah. When I don’t have room for more clients, I love referring out to Susan. I know that local families will feel supported, cared for, and capable in her hands. She is skillful, knowledgeable, kind, patient, and an excellent team player. All of this is evident through her quality and empathetic support, community service, generosity to military families, mentorship of newer Doulas, drive for continuing education, and passion for sharing the latest evidence based childbirth information. She really is one of the best Doulas I have met since I started in 2006, and worth every single penny. There is nothing better than the peace mind I have when referring out to her.
susans birthing workshop was amazing! She is extremely knowledgeable in all birthing. I was really sad when I found out that we could not have her be a part of our birthing team. After this class I'm feeling empowered and am glad I will have a piece of her with us during my birthing experience. She will be encapsulating my placenta and there is no one else I would trust that job to. Just with the fact that she is humble enough to share her knowledge and has so much love for what she does made us feel at ease. If you want someone that will be patient and really listen to your needs and wants without shoving her opinions or lifestyle down your throats SUSAN IS YOUR GAL.
Susan Mossman is an amazing doula and person! Susan was recommended when I was looking up natural birthing classes, she did classes on base (I am not associated with the military at all). She went out of her way to make sure I had a sponser to be able to come to the class. Meeting her in person and talking to her for only a day I felt like I knew her. Both my husband & I felt very comfortable around her. Susan was very helpful throughout my pregnacy answering all my many questions and assuring me that I would know what is best for me and my baby. Having Susuan to always answer the questions that came up, made my pregnancy so much less stressful. I expected to go over the due date because it seemed more common than a baby coming early naturally so we hadn't discussed too much about it. But on Thanksgiving day (of course) a week and a half before my due date I started leaking water. My water did not break it was just leaking which I didn't even know could happen. I went to work, cooked and went to visit family for Thanksgiving dinner, Susan was in touch to make sure everything okay the entire time. Without her reassurance and advice on options we likely would have gone to the hospital and not been able to have the natural birth that we wanted. The next day was long with contractions starting and completely stopping and starting again and Susuan was always there to reassure us. Once the contractions became more consistant Susan met us at the hospital around 8 pm and made sure everything was ready for us. Our doctor was on vacation, but Susan made sure all staff had read our birth plan. Everything went perfectly and our baby arrived just after 11. I believe us being relaxed and comfortable because Susan was there to make sure everything happened as we planned, helped our labor be short and sweet! I highly reccomened Susan as a doula. I can't even explain how amazing she has been to our little family.
Considering this testimonial only allows 2000 characters, i won't be able to fully express how wonderful it was to have Susan as part of my birth team. Early in pregnancy I had such high anxiety about giving birth, honestly I was terrified. I met Susan at a birthing class she was teaching and during our lunch break I expressed to her that I was scared of birth and I started to cry. Her eyes got teary with mine and I knew I needed her. Susan helped my husband and I prepare for the birth of our baby boy and we were able to bond as a team before the big day. My labor started off so slow. Contractions 8 minutes apart for nearly three days. I was uncomfortable, emotionally drained, and so tired; but for those 3 days, susan Was by my side whenever I needed her. She would spend the day with me at home assisting me with massages, stretches, aroma therapy, and even running to the store to get me a watermelon because I wouldn't eat anything else. In the evening she would go home so I could try to rest but she was just a phone call away.
on day 3 I was ready for baby to come. We went to the hospital and I was finally dilated enough to be admitted. i chose to have an epideral as soon as I went into active labor. The nurse said "you have a doula but you're getting an epidural?"
My goal was to go as long as I could without epidermal and that is what I did with Susan's support 100% of the way. Susan is there to help you physically, mentally, and emotionally, and to help you follow YOUR birth plan. susan knew that I didn't plan on going unmedicated and she supported that, just as she would have encouraged me to not get an epidural if I had an unmedicated birth plan.
Susan helped to follow all of my birth wishes and it couldn't have been more perfect. She is selfless and caring. She cares deeply for her mamas, daddy's, and baby's.
Susan is a wonderful friend.
My husband and I met Susan through a speed dating event to meet the different Doulas in our area. She immediately made a great impression and we were lucky enough she was able available around our due date. With this being my first child , Susan made sure I was as prepared as possible. We met several times throughout my pregnancy to get to know each other and to come up with a plan. Susan is so very professional and always came prepared. We created a birth plan that exceeded my expectations. She also made sure I was as prepared as possible by providing all sorts of education. Such as DVDs of natural births to books and other educational websites.
Having had gestational diabetes I was scheduled to be induced at 39w4d. Susan was there with us from the early morning through a little past midnight as my daughter was born late at night. She helped getting my contractions going with natural methods, luckily she did, as the potocin took its time to work. She was there for me whenever I needed her and I didn't even have to say anything. She remind me to breath through my contractions, she was constantly suggesting new positions and even was right there with a tray every time I got sick. She does it all so delicately too, you may even forget that she is there because she ensures that this is all about your and your significant other's birth experience, but she will appear in just the right moments. Susan was actually the one who realized that I was going from having a major contraction to pushing. The nurse had just checked me and said that I am still sitting at 6 cm so she didn't think that I was actually pushing so thank God Susan Suan knew something was different. She got the doctor and sure enough I was 10 cm dilated and ready to have my daughter. I just love thinking back of the day my baby girl was born and Susan has a major part in it. Thanks to Susan I was able to get the birth experience I desired and I will be forever thankful to her.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Susan! I met her when I was pregnant with my 3rd child. She is the one of the kindest and most caring person I have ever met. I immediately felt comfor table with her. My husband was deployed at the time and wouldn't make it home for the birth. She was so generous and volunteered to be be my doula since he wasnt going to be there! She was amazing!! She was there for me any time I had any questions or concerns. She was there for me when I needed a foot rub or and back rub. When I went in to labor, she was right there with me. She made the room a calming and comforting environment. She kept me relaxed and as comfortable as possible. My plan was for a natural birth and when things got hard at the last stages, her support pushed me through it. She definitely made the birth of my son an amazing experience. I have 2 other children and wish I would have had Susan there at their births. I highly recommend making her part of your birth experience. She is such a special woman and whole heartedly loves what she does!!
Susan was a great support to not only Me but my husband too, she did not come in and take over she helped my husband to help me. I was able to achieve the birth I wanted with their support. If your looking for a doula who will be non judgmental and be there to support your whole family during this transition Susan is your lady!
I will admit that I had never heard of a doula until last year. My daughter (Sarah) was pregnant with her third child in England and my son-in-law was deployed. She has met Susan Mossman in November and Susan offered her service as a doula. I got to go to England before Sarah went into labor. Susan came to the house with exercises, sitting ball and tips on making the birthing experience more comfortable. The birth of my grandson was the most amazing event --Susan was there every step of the way from the moment we got to the hospital and long after his birth. She had such a calming reassurance that helped relax not only Sarah but this grandmother The entire experience was wonderful for my daughter who had her husband with her for the first 2 births. I would highly recommend the service of a doula to any expecting mother even with the presence of the father. She helped with the nursing staff, comforted my daughter and even made me feel so much more comfortable. Susan will never be forgotten---she was a huge part of making the birth of my grandson a great experience for Sarah and the father watching on the other side of the world via skype.
Susan was our doula for my third baby, and my most difficult labor! She was at my side for nearly 24 hours. She and my husband took turns doing little power naps to get through, I had Susan's support the entire time. I had the worst sinus infection and no sleep throughout labor and had pitocin cranking. I ended up getting an epidural, even though my first two children had a natural birth. It was absolutely the right decision for that unique birth, absolutely no regrets! Susan was supportive, non-judgemental and I knew she was there for us regardless. She was a real trooper for a long drawn out labor with a beautiful birth. I highly recommend Susan for your support team!
What a blessing Susan was to me as my Doula! She was always there to support me with advice and information as I struggled with being uncomfortable during the latter part of my pregnancy. This was a second baby for me and my first birth did not go as planned and ended I up with a c-section. It was very important to me to for this second birth to have a successful VBAC. Susan was very instrumental in helping me accomplish that. Susan was able to educate me and guide me in the steps necessary to get my second baby into the right position for birth. During labour Susan was there to help me manage pain through positioning and massage. She also helped my labour progress naturally by massaging pressure points in my feet. Susan created a calming atmosphere allowing me to be more relaxed, and reassured that I was with someone that had experience - that had been at this very moment many times before. The support and reassurance Susan provided throughout my sons birth was extremely helpful! She will always be a special part of my birth story!
Susan was a God-send!
As a first time mom, I was freaking out when my labor started. As soon as Susan got there, she reminded me to breathe, and my labor became manageable. She was a constant source of encouragement for me. Because of her support, I was able to accomplish my goal of laboring without an epidural.
Prenatally, I was told my daughter was transverse. By utilizing the resources and exercises Susan showed me, I was able to encourage my daughter to flip head down within 3 days.
Because of my wonderful experience with Susan, I felt drawn to become a doula myself. Susan has mentored me along that journey as well. I was so sad when she moved! England lost a wonderful lady, and I had to say goodbye to a dear friend and mentor.
Thank you for everything, Susan!
Susan was my doula in England. I found out we were moving to England with less than three months until my due date, and gave birth three weeks after we arrived. I don't know what I would have done without Susan. In addition to being a wealth of information about giving birth in a new place, she was a great mentor and friend in those long weeks leading up to the birth of my baby boy.
Susan was my doula for my third child and it was the first time I had used a doula. The experience was wonderful. Even though both my mom and husband were present in the room, having Susan there was a huge comfort. Instead of my husband standing in a corner helplessly looking on (like my previous births), he had a better idea how to help me with some gentle suggestions from Susan. Together, they made a great team and helped me fight through the pain and desire to give up. The "tricks of the trade" she employed helped reduce my nausea and persevere to have the birth experience I had hoped for.
I wish I'd known what a doula was for my first two pregnancies! As I contemplate a fourth child, I find myself wishing Susan was still in England. I can't recommend her enough. And now I'm one of those people who encourages other pregnant women to consider a doula. She was a fantastic addition to my birth support team and it was nice to have someone from outside my immediate family to guide us through the birth experience. Her support leading up to the birth, as we discussed my hopes and fears for the big day and every detail of my day-to-day pregnancy discomfort, was almost as invaluable as her expertise and guidance in the room.
I think Susan is exactly what a doula is meant to be. Her presence in my delivery room didn't take away from the special moments my husband and I shared as we saw our son for the first time, she enhanced the experience. She was just there in the background, almost invisibly easing us through the process.
Susan was an integral person in the birth of my second child. She was called in last minute to help me and she was absolutely amazing. She was calm, well educated and so willing to try things. She knew when she was needed and when she could take a step back. She is a true professional and she will always hold a special place in my heart!
Oh how I love and miss my dear, sweet Doula! To say Susan was invaluable to us during the birth of our second daughter is an understatement. I really can't express how much of a difference she made. With my first daughter we didn't have a doula. labor was days long in the hospital with staff telling me how I should be laboring and explaining drugs that will make this quicker and painless. I was terrified to give birth a second time; however after meeting Susan she calmed much of my anxiety and helped me face my fears. I can't saw enough good about her. She has such a sweet and calming presence yet she's determined and is able to give her mamas the confidence they need to have the birth they desire. Susan never pressured or pushed my husband and I in the decisions we made. She has a vast knowledge on all thing birth, labor and baby related so she was able to answer our questions. And if she didn't know something she was willing to find out. Susan is so flexible; she will be as involved as you want or need her to be. She was in constant communication with us over the months of my pregnancy and after.
Susan will always be one of my favorite people in my life; she and my husband caught our daughter as my labor went much faster and we didn't make it to the hospital. Susan placed Jemma on my chest and captured our first pictures together.
if you have the chance to have Susan as part of your birth team, take advantage of the blessing she is!!
My husband said if we have a third child we have to fly Susan in! She's an amazing woman, wonderful mother and fantastic friend!
My husband and I met Susan during a doula "speed dating" event and both agreed that Susan was the best fit for us! She was warm and friendly and helped put us first time parents at ease. Susan met with me several times before the birth of our son, which really helped me get comfortable with her as well as my birth plan.
During labor, Susan was fantastic. She was always calm and supportive, even when I was really struggling. She made sure that my husband was very involved, which made it a wonderful bonding experience for us. She even offered to take photos, which I love looking back on.
Not only was Susan a great support during labor and delivery, she also helped me so much in the days and weeks following the birth. I struggled with breastfeeding, and Susan calmly offered advice and reassurance. She was also a great friend while I dealt with postpartum depression and anxiety. She came over just to sit and talk, and that was exactly what I needed. We were stationed overseas without family for support, but Susan was always there to help as best she could.
I would highly recommend Susan to anyone seeking a doula. She is a wonderful person with a great calming presence. She would be an asset to any birth experience.
