I could not recommend Elizabeth more highly. She is an incredible soul, caring beyond words and was with us every step of the way with the birth of our daughter. Not only did she provide excellent care and advice during my pregnancy but in the hospital right after the birth of our daughter, she gave us invaluable advice that helped us avoid a potential NICU visit. We have maintained a relationship post-birth and she has helped with breastfeeding, newborn care but also is a great sounding board for everything one might need in the precious post-partum months. She was exactly what we needed in a Doula, helpful without being invasive, informative without being instructive, caring, kind and an important part of our daughter's entrance into this world.
My entire experience with Elizabeth has been lovely. With her guidance and expertise Elizabeth provided amazing support throughout my birth journey — every step of the way. Elizabeth has a very calm, funny, and extremely positive presence. Immediately upon meeting her she made me feel at ease. Prior to my labor Elizabeth came to our house multiple times to educate us and answer any questions we had. My partner & I planned for an at home water birth. I labored at home naturally for 72 hours before I landed in the hospital with an emergency cesarean. Even though this did not match the vision I had for my birth with Elizabeth’s help I was able to adapt smoothly. Not once did I feel unsupported. Simply put, I was fortunate to have Elizabeth at my side.
I met Elizabeth through the AfroLatino conscious community back in 2014 when I screened a short documentary I directed. We became friends on facebook and kept in touch. When I saw that she became a doula on facebook; I immediately put her on my list of doulas. When my partner and I received the good news that we were expecting, Elizabeth was on top of my list. My partner (Njeri Kirangi) and I began the process of interviewing doulas. After a short search, we decided to go with Elizabeth. My partner was so happy with our choice. Not only does Elizabeth speak my language (She is Dominican and so Am I), But, she was so sensitive to our needs. As first time parents, I couldn't have wish a better doula than Elizabeth. She's very smart, down to earth, extremely helpful. Her communication skills are impeccable. If you are looking for a doula, I wouldn't go any further and choose Elizabeth Perez. You won't be disappointed.
I cannot imagine giving birth without Elizabeth.
I knew she was fantastic from our two prenatal meetings, and she immediately made me feel supported and safe. But I had no idea how invaluable she was until I went into labor. As soon as my labor began at home, I felt overwhelmed and terrified (not to mention the obvious pain I was in). All of the breathing techniques I had practiced went right out the window, and I couldn't remember any of the pain management strategies I'd learned about.
Elizabeth met us at the hospital and instantly, she was my rock. She talked me through each breath, coaching me in and out of every contraction, even swaying with me. I wasn't aware of time, but in retrospect, she must have done this for hours. With her guidance, the contractions felt so much more managable, I wasn't scared anymore, and the hours went by MUCH faster than they had before she got there.
I decided I wanted an epidural, even though that hadn't been my plan, and Elizabeth was so supportive and non-judgemental. When I was finally able to rest after the epidural kicked in, Elizabeth made sure my husband got some food and rest and she stayed in the room with me the entire time so I was never alone. During the hour and half that I pushed for, Elizabeth laughed and joked with me when I was in the mood for it, and soothed me and helped me breathe when things got more intense. She put my hair up, sprayed me with lavendar water, calmed my husband down, held my leg, and helped my midwife apply oils. Somehow, she was able to help all the people in the room, all at once.
I honestly can't picture how my birth would have gone, had she not been there, but I imagine it would have been more similar to my first few hours at home: scary, painful, overwhelming. Instead, I had the most wonderful birth filled with laughter and joy and I was only able to get to that place because of Elizabeth.
When my wife went into labor, I didn't know what to do. I had attended a workshop and read a book, so I had some guidelines, but once the labor started I felt like a bystander. Elizabeth changed that. She quickly sized up the situation and, through a mix of gentle encouragement and simple suggestions, helped turn me into an active participant in the experience. I can't thank her enough for her wisdom, patience, gentleness, and unceasing hard work during my wife's labor from its first stage to the post-partum period. Having her as a doula was key to making my wife's delivery a beautiful experience both for her and for me.
Elizabeth was our rock before, during and after childbirth. She guided us in finding the birth experience we wanted to have, and made sure I had the calmness and strength to make informed decisions without feeling pressured by the healthcare system. Then, when life threw a curb ball, and I ended up needing a C-section, Elizabeth gave me the strength to face it without feeling like I had failed. She always knew when to approach me with laughter, gravity or kindness. She always knew how to touch/massage me in ways that were comforting and helped with the pain. She made sure I was hydrated, had eaten and even made sure that my lips were moisturized. She also gave my husband the confidence and strength to support me.
Then, after birth she nurtured me emotionally, helped me with breastfeeding (she made me feel powerful by this amazing ability to feed my baby), and gave me concrete tools to navigate what I found to be the most difficult part: postpartum.
Elizabeth was an amazing support in concrete ways: she knows the drill of childbirth and how to help you go through, including C-sections, and many doulas have this knowledge and skills, but what made her invaluable, was her emotional intelligence and the way she made this entire experience beautiful.
We will always be grateful to her.
Where do I start?! Elizabeth is a superwoman, and not just of the doula variety. Her depth of experience as a doula and a mother, positive attitude, strong sense of self, and evidence-based approach to practicing empowered me to design and experience the natural (albeit borderline precipitous) birth and postpartum recovery period I had hoped for... obviously with Elizabeth and her doula partner, Yael, there every step of the way. With Elizabeth's guidance, I felt like the birthing queen that I am. She truly made me believe that I was physically and emotionally designed to birth my baby which was the mindset that helped see me through a natural birth. If and when I have another baby, I will most definitely place my hands and those of my unborn child and my husband (doulas are there for the dads, too!) in Elizabeth's care. Speaking of husbands, my husband initially went from being skeptical of having a doula present with us for the labor and birth of our first child to quickly singing Elizabeth's praises. I even overheard him talking to a friend who is expecting his first baby about how having a doula team to guide us through the birthing process was just as much of a help for him as it was for me.
My husband and I felt so lucky to have Elizabeth by our side before, during, and after the birth of our son. She was so attentive and thoughtful in the weeks leading up to the birth, coming by our place several times to check in and walk through our birth plan and post-birth plan (such a smart idea, all Elizabeth!), and then answering phone calls and texts of all hours in the days before I went into labor. During the labor itself she was a god-send, with a warm, firm, inspiring voice and touch.
Elizabeth was an invaluable resource throughout my pregnancy journey: kind, informed, energetic, encouraging, and just a pleasure to work with. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a doula.
Thank you, Elizabeth!
As a FTM, I had a very positive experience with Elizabeth Perez as my doula. She is kind, knowledgable, and caring. Meeting her and her partner Yael before the birth put my mind at ease. Beyond being knowledgable in natural childbirth, she provided me with strong support and numerous resources on the subject of breastfeeding and babywearing. She was very helpful when I had questions about how to prepare for the early stages of motherhood. She was invaluable in helping me to establish an early bond with my baby through breastfeeding and was a strong advocate for me and my baby while we were in the hospital. I appreciated how accessible Elizabeth was in the last stages of my pregnancy. I also knew the relationship was not over once the baby was born. The in-home postpartum visits put my new-mom mind at ease. I would whole-heartedly recommend Elizabeth as a labor and postpartum doula.
She was life saver for me. She was very caring and lovin. I didn’t have any closed one during my deliver, i think she did more than what would my family would do. I thank her from my heart.
Elizabeth was instant love and joy. Perfect match for my family, with the right mix of kindness, energy, humor, power and professionalism. She is very intuitive, being able to determine ones particular needs and wishes, when to step in with all her knowledge and care or when to step back for us to follow our own way. Forever grateful, forever friends.
Where do I start with the greatness that Elizabeth has to offer? I will start by saying that she was an absolute God send, tailor made for me, my husband and supporting tribe.
My journey with Elizabeth began early in pregnancy (around 10 weeks) I’m a FTM (First time mom) planning an out of hospital, un medicated birth and knew that I needed the support of a Doula.
Elizabeth made me feel at ease, confident, empowered & ready to take on this journey; all during our first meeting.
She provided pristine support for myself as well as my husband. Elizabeth helped my husband understand the changes happening in my body and helped him in learning how to support me.
Elizabeth arrived RIGHT when I needed her once labor commenced. Right at the point that I needed an advocate, right at the point where I needed undivided attention, right at the point where I needed to remember that all I’ve learned, this is the time to implement it. Elizabeth filled all those shoes at the same time. I thank God everyday that she was there to assist me and my husband during my intense labor.
Because of Elizabeth my breast feeding journey has been very smooth. When my daughter was born she latched right away however, it was a nipple latch which I later came to realize after experiencing pain while nursing.
When Elizabeth came for my postpartum visit she assisted me with correcting her latch, as well as showed me how to hand express my milk so that I don’t become engorged. Thanks to her, I’ve never experienced clogged ducts, and I don’t need to use my electric pump unless I plan to be away from my baby for days at a time.
Elizabeth, thank you so much for making my first pregnancy and labor so memorable and less overwhelming. Your patience is unmatched and your sense of knowledge is A1. I pray you’re around for baby #2.
Elizabeth Perez is very professional and is very knowledgeable in what she does. She is not only educated but is gifted in her field of work. She was a extreme support to my wife during labor and great in coaching myself as well as the family in ways that we can be a support to her. She gave us all the tools needed in preparation for of baby and breast feeding. I would recommend Elizabeth Perez to anyone that is in need of a doula.
I would recommend Elizabeth as a doula to anyone who is pregnant. During my pregnancy, she was highly attentive, regularly checking in with me and offering loving suggestions for self care when I had questions or concerns. During my labor, she was all in- helping my husband support me in more effective ways and making me feel so much more comfortable in the hospital when not everyone is kind or generous. She brings her positive energy and realness throughout the journey and I was happy to have her by my side.
Elizabeth has a wonderful spirit - she is full of life and love. She sees the beauty in the world & in birth. She celebrates the whole process from pregnancy to labor. She beams with energy & cheer & has a great sense of humor. I really enjoyed her company, valued her support & I was so grateful to have her on this incredible journey with us!
Working with Elizabeth was a pleasure--she is not easily frazzled nor frustrated and is a strong advocate for her client(s). She is extremely knowledgeable about her craft and sees her work as a doula as a calling and a work of activism. She is dedicated to creating a positive environment for all members of the family with a keen focus to the needs and desires of the mother. Elizabeth emphasized the importance of our family spending time together and bonding before the arrival of our little one. She offered suggestions, such as yoga, taking walks, eating delicious foods--all things to nourish the body before our son came into the world. When our labor started she was available on the phone to walk us through the different stages. When it came time to push, Elizabeth was a calming steady presence. She kept me focused on the meeting our son. Her positive energy was a great addition to the room. Right after our son was born she was laser focused on the two things we had previously discussed: skin-to-skin and initiating breastfeeding. While those two things were important to the nurses, Elizaebeth made it her mission to ensure both were completed as soon as possible. Within seconds our son was on my chest and within minutes he was latched to my breast. Elizabeth also shined during post-partum care. She continued to check in after her post-partum visit to answer any questions or concerns. A life learner, Elizabeth isn't afraid to say "i don't know" or "I'm not sure" and do some research and come with suggestions and answers. I would suggest working with Elizabeth if you're looking for a doula that believes and is empowered by the strength of women and motherhood, is passionate about her work, and is dedicated to helping create a positive birthing experiece for you and your family.
I feel so lucky that Elizabeth was a part of my pregnancy and birth. We met her at a doula meet and greet and instantly felt comfortable around her. She has a calm energy and really listened to our wishes and worries. We felt confident in our birth plan after meeting with Elizabeth prior to birth. We appreciated how present she was, but also that she wasn't pushy. She supported our birth and respected our views. She helped me to advocate for what I wanted during labor. We will forever be thankful for the calmness she brought to the labor and delivery room.
My husband and I chose Elizabeth because we appreciated her energy and vibe. We felt she added to our team and made the home birth experience as well as post birth very comfortable. I felt that Elizabeth took care of me and my husband during and after our birth. Unfortunately we had to go to the hospital due to complications with my sons breathing because of fluid in his lungs. Elizabeth was with us the whole time we were dealing with the doctors. She made sure once we got home that we ate and put me to bed. She was very kind with checking up on me while we were waiting for our son to be released. I couldn't have asked for a better doula.
Speaking from the partner/dad perspective - Elizabeth was a fantastic birthing coach for us. She was just the right mix of granola, hard talk and sense of humor. Elizabeth used yoga, real conversation about upcoming birthing scenarios all with engaged attitude. Best of all, my lady immediately felt womanly kinship comfort and trust. Essential when it's GO time.
When contractions came she joined us at the hospital and was right there with us during the "surges". It's a ride with one pilot and two copilots, let me tell you. Literally. Partner gets one leg, doula gets the other. Elizabeth is the best. Enjoy the ride!
Elizabeth is a beautiful soul, a very caring lady with a sense of purpose. Her assistance was of greater benefits for my husband and I. Our bundle of joy was born after 32 long hours of labor, but she stood by us, every step of the way.
We highly recommend her services to you! And to Elizabeth, we wish you all the success in your career, keep being the strong and positive person you are!

Though I found her later in my pregnancy, having Elizabeth as my doula was an enriching experience! She is knowledgable, caring and focused. As this was my husband's and my first pregnancy, and he was abroad at the time, we were so glad to have her support and guidance before, during, and after the birth of our son. From her patient demeanour, to her warm persona, Elizabeth is an absolute pleasure to be around, and made us feel immediately at ease.
During our meetings, Elizabeth reassured us that, while her role centered on my comfort and well being, she was also available to be an informational resource and offer support to my "birthing team" (which consisted of my husband -via facetime-, mother, and aunt), which was greatly appreciated. During labour, Elizabeth was attentive, encouraging and empowering - helping me focus on the pain management techniques we practised (I wanted a natural birth), as well as reminding me of the preferences detailed on my birth plan, which allowed me to maintain control over the birthing process - during what at times can be an overwhelming experience. Although our son's birth did not go as planned, and I ended up having to deliver via c-section, my husband and I are so thankful for the support Elizabeth provided during my labour.
After the birth, Elizabeth and I continued to stay in contact. She continued to follow up and check in with my husband and I, and answered any questions we had. My birthing team and I were/ are confident in her abilities, and wouldn't hesitate to have her be our doula again for any future pregnancies!
