Martha was a wonderful Doula to work with!  She attended the birth of our first baby, this past March.  Martha was helpful before, during, and after the birth, and was the calm and light-hearted presence we needed. Before the birth, Martha helped me think through my birth plan and helped my husband learn some good techniques to keep me calm before and during labor.  During labor, her presence was invaluable.  I had planned to have as natural birth as possible, hoping to minimize interventions.  Unfortunately, my water broke before my body had ramped up into a good pattern of contractions, leading me to need pitocin.  Martha supported me (and my husband!) as I labored for many many hours on pitocin without pain medications.  I had planned to use hypnobirthing techniques to help me deal with labor pains.  While my husband was a great physical support during labor, Martha noticed that I needed a hypnobirthing "script" to help me through my contractions and made one up for me on the spot.  Her presence really helped keep me focused and kept my pain managed.  When I couldn't handle the pain any longer and needed relief from being bombarded with contractions on pitocin, she advocated for me to be unhooked from the pitocin.  Laboring naturally made such a difference!  Martha stayed at the hospital with us for 18+ hours of difficult labor.  In the end, I needed a c-section to finally birth my baby boy, which was difficult for me emotionally.  Martha visitied me during my postpartum period, and remembering the birth experience with her made a big difference in processing these emotions.  Overall, my husband and I whole-heartedly recommend Martha.  He especially can't imagine our son's birth without her!

With the arrival of our second child, I was looking for a birthing experience where I felt empowered and in control. Martha was very receptive in helping us achieve this goal. Martha provided us with ample space to talk about our previous experience and apprehensions regarding delivery. With her calming presence and active listening, we immediately felt at ease. Martha offered wonderful suggestions that directly supported our goals. Martha was not judgemental or crtical of any pain management methods and offered research and facts rather than opinion. I would highly recommend Martha as a doula. It is evident that the role of doula is more than a job for Martha but something that she is passionate about. Martha was a wonderful addition to our birthing experience and we would have been lost without her support.

Martha met my toddler and I at our local library for our first encounter and after that I knew I would be blessed to have her support. Being that this baby was my fourth, I didn't need so much of the education but the support and help in keeping my laboring space sacred. She did so much more! She taught my family about Rebozo, which I just used my lucky red scarf which I keep with the baby all the time now. She was often checking in with me like an old friend who had great advice for positioning and comfort measures when I was ailing in my last trimester. She texted, called and emailed interesting articles and information pertaining to things we discussed. She was a wonderful resource for my family. When it became showtime ( and even in my "dry runs" to the hospital, she was a strong support person even with my husband being amazingly supportive. She kept my birth plan in place and as my husband kept me focused in the birth tub, Martha stood by my head, providing comfort and support I didn't even know I needed. She sang and held my hand through the hard contractions before I got into the birthing tub which held tremendously in keeping me calm and relaxed. With having a large family, she kept my room calm and focused on the calmness I needed. She was also wonderful with my toddler and 11 year old who was in the room a lot. My 11 year old joined me near the birthing tub and Martha was a great resource for her as well in knowing how to help her mom. We highly recommend Martha as a birthing doula as she is so relaxing in her demeanor yet strong in the comfort she provides. She helped me have my "healing" birth since my previous births had been traumatic.

Martha and I worked together when I was expecting as a first time mother. I was drawn to her calm demeanor and love for her work. Martha shared helpful information and resources, and we created a birth plan together. Although labor never goes exactly as planned, I felt empowered throughout and had the natural childbirth that I hoped for. Her resource recommendations also helped my husband to prepare, and he couldn't have been a better partner. Although it wasn't easy, childbirth was a beautiful experience for us, thanks in no small part to Martha.
