Emily is a fantastic doula. My husband, Edward and I highly recommend her. Emily was our doula in San Diego for the birth of our first child on February 17, 2018. She is knowledgeable, compassionate, and gentle, which we found very helpful for our birth experience. She was available to us before, during, and after the birth of our daughter. We are so glad we found her and she will always hold a special place in our hearts. We consider her a friend for life.
Where do I even start?! Emily is not only an amazing Doula but she's also an excellent massage therapist. I was lucky to have Emily as our Doula for the birth of my son in November 2017. My husband and I knew from the moment we met her that we wanted her to be a part of our birth support team. She is kind, calm and confident in her abilities.
I received a couple prenatal massages and wish I had more because it was the most relaxed I've ever felt! She creates a very peaceful atmosphere and you leave feeling so refreshed.
As a doula, she is incredibly knowledgeable about the birth process and shares so much valuable information and tips to prepare parents for labor. She demonstrated different positions that could be helpful during labor and exercises to help baby get into the best position. Our prenatal appointments made my husband and I feel very well prepared for a homebirth.
I had a long labor and Emily was there when we needed her which was quite a long time. She provided so much support by doing hip squeezes and applying pressure to my lower back. I'm almost certain that we would not have achieved a homebirth without Emily's support.
Emily also made postpartum visits which I enjoyed. She even connected us with amazing resources when my son had trouble latching. She provided support and encouragement via phone and text throughout the entire time.
Although I don't have any other doulas to compare Emily to, I can just tell that she is one of a kind and would recommend her to any mom, homebirth, birth center or hospital, she will be amazing!
My husband and I were unsure about hiring a birth doula initially and didn't look into it until the third trimester of my pregnancy. Now I am horrified to think of what we would've done without her. Emily exceeded all of our expectations...I highly highly recommend her to anyone like us who is unsure of needing a doula. She met us at the hospital as my contractions were getting more intense and she stayed with us for the next 30+ hours. With each contraction, she was by my side...breathing with me, massaging my head, applying pressure, and being a soothing, calming presence (and advocate) for us. Emily had so much expertise in options for pain management/comfort measures, pushing positions, breathing techniques and others that we nor the midwives/nurses/hospital team did not know or offer to us. She suggested options and was able to diplomatically negotiate with the hospital team. In addition to all of the incredible support that she provided for me, she was also a great support for my husband. He relied on her expertise and also her calming presence in the room. She took turns with him to support me and that gave him some relief and much needed breaks. He now says he would not go through another birth experience with Emily and I must agree.
Emily was phenomenal and is very well versed in all things birth and newborn. I had planned on a hypnobirth but was not able to get in the correct mind space for hypnosis since I was being induced due to lack of fetal movement and was very nervous. Emily had just attended another birth the previous day and was at the ready for my very long birthing time. It was such a relief to have Emily come since dear dad wasn't really remembering what he was supposed to do to calm me down. Emily helped me get into other positions to help move along the birth and made appropiate recommendations for my induction that was able to be done without pitocin. She held the barf bag for me while I was pushing and helped me with the nurses who were wanting me to purple push and I was breathing my baby out. She was also very helpful postpartum. She helped me troubleshoot my Moby wrap, my baby's latch issues and left us some nurishing homemade soup, folded my laundry so I could go out for walk, all very helpful.
Hiring her was such a good choice.
We were so grateful and blessed that we found Emily. Not only was she there during the labor (and in what turned out to be an unexpected dire situation), but the after-labor days became very difficult. Emily was ALWAYS there for us. She helped us coordinate with additional doulas in the group to be able to provide 24/7 care to our newborn as our household recovered for an unexpected emergency while at the same time welcoming a new member to our family. Emily was ALWAYS kind, caring, compasionate, she would always listen to any of our concerns or comments. She was practically a member of our family in the 2 weeks that followed were she was with us almost every day. Thanks to her experience in the doula service, I write this as the husband, she was just exceptional. I would ALWAYS recommend Emily, without hesitation, without even thinking about it. Anyone who chooses to have emily as their Doula for their delivery and post-labor services, is very fortunate to experience a golden jewel of a person. She will always be there for the delivery time, to care for the newborn, to coach, and to help introduce this new little one to the entire family.
I started working with Emily for prenatal massages when i was about 20 weeks pregnant. Once I found out she was a doula, I started to ask more questions and wonder if this was something I wanted or needed for the birth of my baby. Now that my daughter is three months old, I will say that i would never have another baby without a doula. Emily is very good at what she does and I can't say enough good things about her. She made me feel relaxed and confident about the whole labor process. I initially never wanted to have a baby because of my fear of labor. Emily was part of turning that fear into excitment. I got to the point where I could not wait for the experience, I was so excited. Emily helped me, my spouse and mother-in-law prepare both mentally and physically for the birth of our baby. She also recommeded some amazing resources that helped a lot, too, such as birth prep classes and books. Her demeanor and follow-up is wonderful and you can truly see that she loves her craft and cares about her clients. She was also instrumental in the postpartum process as well, which was SO needed for us.
In addition, I did massages every week or every two weeks with Emily and that is also highly recommended.
I began seeing Emily when I was 4 months pregnant for prenatal massages. Immediately I liked Emily. She is warm and reassuring and has a very pleasant disposition about her. Eventually, I asked Emily to be my doula as well and she should really charge more for the time she spent with my husband and me. Emily met with us at our home and came to our Hyponobabies birthing rehearsal as well. During my nearly 40 hour labor, she gave me massages, guided me into varied birthing positions, and my husband was so happy to have her there too for his own moral support. My baby was stuck in my pelvis so I ended up needing a c-section anyway, but Emily even offered to stay for that. She had already gone above and beyond, so I told her to go home and get some rest. She came to the hospital and checked on us a couple days later and then to our home the following week. Having a baby is about so much more than just the birth and I feel Emily was there to prepare us for all of the other things that would come our way too. Even though I am not pregnant at the moment, I consider Emily my go-to massage therapist and will certainly ask her to be my doula again in the future. My husband and I give her our highest recommendation. San Diego is lucky to have her as a part of their birthing community. Thanks, Emily!
I'm so glad to have worked with Emily for the preparation and birth of our daughter. From the very start, Emily was professional, responsive and immediately helped with strategies to relieve pre-labor aches and pains. She met with us a few times before our due date to discuss the process and also helped us create a birth plan that worked for our family. She did not pressure us but rather supported and educated us so that we could make informed decisions. Emily is also a massage therapist so she was able to use massage therapy to help during labor. She guided me and my husband and helped us to find comfortable positions and ways to relieve the pain of contractions. Her calming presence was always appreciated. When I was unable to have a natural birth and advised to have a C-section, Emily stayed to console and help me through that process as well. She followed up with me after the birth to help with breast feeding and just to check on us. Even though, our plan changed, I can't imagine going through the process without her.
A couple of years ago, I had the great fortune of crossing paths with Emily at M3 Bodyworks in Seattle. She helped me immensely with both prenatal massage and during my home water birth. She helped ease the pain of my contractions by pouring hot water on my back, pressing on my pelvis, low-moaning with me, and helping me into different positions while in the water. Emily lifted me in a supported squat for some time. When the pain got intense and scary, I was so happy to have her by my side calmly supporting and cheering me on. When I would say 'I can’t do this.' she reminded me that I could do it and that I was doing it. Emily believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself and she really turned my negativity around. Emily did a fantastic job of holding the space and keeping the environment calm when the midwives entered the scene just 20 minutes before baby arrived! Emily is intuitive and ninja-like. She enters a room so quietly I didn't know she was there until I looked up and bam! She was always right there with juice or towels when i needed it. She is very intuitive and unintrusive. Being such a private and introverted person myself I wasn’t sure I would want anyone present at all for my birth, but I am so glad that I reached out and accepted her help. Emily even brought her own camera and snapped quite a few photos of us during the birth and afterwards. I am so grateful to have those photos now. She really went above and beyond. Of the two doulas I had, she was the only one that followed up with me post-partum. She was very knowledgable about breastfeeding and gave me some pointers on different ways I could hold and position my baby to make it easier on my body. Super helpful! Emily has such a professional and nurturing personality I would recommend her without hesitation to anyone that would like some extra help during their labor. She is fantastic!
I met Emily through her massage business while I was pregnant. We got to know each other and I immediately liked her calm, sweet and capable demeanor. I just had a great feeling about her. When I heard she was a doula, I started asking her about her possibly being our doula for our first child.
I don't know how we would have gone through our birth without Emily. I happened to be induced, and in the days and weeks prior to our daughter's birth, I was incredibly nervous and anxious. I really feel that Emily was there for us. She dropped by beforehand several times. She was continously monitoring how I was feeling ahead of time, and making sure that I knew what to expect and that I was mentally and emotionally prepared as possible.
She was a strong support during my labor both for myself and my husband. Our labor lasted over 24 hours and I struggled to stay on "plan" because of the induction and the use of pitocin. One of the best things about Emily's "philosophy" was that she never inserted her opinion at any time. She did not come with her own agenda. Childbirth and childrearing already come with so many opinions from your doctors, parents, strangers, etc. Emily was just there for us for whatever we wanted and needed to do. When I wanted to stay on plan, she stuck with me and helped me labor. She had excellent techniques and advice and she was very sensitive and attentive to my needs. I never felt like she could have been doing more.
When we had to change plans because I was so tired, Emily was very supportive and again, non-opinionated. I just felt completely supported throughout the process. When I asked my husband what he would say, he said it was the best thing (hiring Emily) that we did in preparation for the birth. We both were very impressed and we plan to have her come up from CA to WA for our next child.
I came to know Emily through her prenatal massage services, and instantly I felt a calmness that I was craving as my pregnancy progressed to its final stages. From the moment I met her, she exuded a calm and soft wisdom that put me at complete ease. She became the weekly dose of good energy as I got closer to my due date.
I very quickly realized that Emily was the person I needed with me and my husband during our hospital birth. Emily was extremely thoughtful and organized in her planning prior to the birth, and helped us formulate a birth plan that made us feel comfortable and confident. During the birth she was a godsend - she was helpful when I needed words of encouragement, and quiet during the most intense moments when I simply needed a calm presence. She worked in tandem with my husband and their energy together made me know that I was fully supported. She offered massage during my two day labor that really helped me remain sane! After our daughter was born, she gave us the privacy we needed to meet and revel over our new baby. Upon our request, she managed to snap a few photographs of our first sweet moments with our baby (Without us even noticing). Those are some of the most precious memories that we have now on film. She followed up with us a few days after the birth in our home to make sure we were all getting along alright.
Emily receives the highest recommendation from our family. She is confident, reassuring, and exhibits a calm wisdom that simply cannot be found in many humans. She was my companion and confidant in arguably the most intense experiences of our lives, and I am forever grateful.
Emily was recommended to me as a doula by my massage therapist. When I reached out to Emily, she was extremely responsive and had availability to help with the birth of my daughter. My husband and I met with Emily and were immediately won over by her engaging and caring personalityy. We asked a lot of questions about why she decided to become a doula and her philosophy on child birth. Emily was very knowledgeable about the subject matter as well as vividly passionate about pre/postnatal care and natural child birth. We had no doubts that we wanted Emily to be there for the delivery at our home. In the few months prior to my delivery we met with Emily to discuss care and questions. Emily was always responsive and thorough. When the time came for my delivery, Emily arrived at our home with the sunrise. She was by my side the whole way through labor and delivery with helpful pain management techniques and tips for me and my husband. I got to have my desired birth experience and I believe Emily played a huge part in that. Beside her professional skills as a doula, Emily's warm and loving personality as well as her deeply caring approach to child birth helped me prepare for delivery, go through labor and adjust to my new life with the newborn. I had also seen Emily for pre and postnatal massage, through witch she helped me with a variety of body issues and promoted relaxation during this intense part of my life. Emily is a talented, skillful and passionate massage therapist and doula and it will be sad to not have her back in Seattle for my second baby.
