We had a great experience with Pamela Tessmann as our Doula. In advance of the birth , Pamela was super easy to communicate with and went out of her way to get to know us, our space, and help to define and ensure everyone was as comfortable as possible in their roles on the "big day". During the birth, Pamela was everything we could ask for: knowledgable, compassionate, supportive, caring, professional and a HUGE asset to the team. And after the birth she continued to check in and provide support as needed.
And her additional service of providing us with a written birth story is a great memento to have forever.
We highly recommend Pamela, and thank her so much for her role in helping us welcome our lil' daughter into the world!
My husband and I weren’t sure we needed or wanted a doula at the birth of our first child. As it turned out, the best gift we could’ve given our daughter for her birthday was to have Pamela at her birth. Pamela was prepared, confident, gentle and genuine. During our initial meetings, Pamela got to know us and helped prepare us for the birth. She was thorough and knowledgeable. She spoke candidly about what we could expect from her so there was no confusion about her role. She answered our numerous questions and helped us to explore our options. She also made herself available. I found this very comforting, knowing that she was just a phone call or a text away during my pregnancy. The birth was intense. I had to close my eyes and draw inward to focus but I could hear Pamela’s encouraging voice (often reminding me of my own intentions) and feel her reassuring touch. She advocated for me, she kept me informed, she held my hair when I was sick, she placed cold towels on my forehead, she dimmed the lighting, she brought (electric) candles! On the most physically, mentally, emotionally challenging day of my life, Pamela did everything she could to make me more comfortable. My husband, who is very calm and strong, was thankful to have Pamela’s guidance. For me, I felt safe and confident knowing I had their joint support. After the birth of our beautiful daughter, Pamela stayed with us until we were settled in for the night, ensuring that we were comfortable. Pamela took photos during and after the birth that we will treasure forever. She captured emotion-filled expressions and intimate moments that would have otherwise slipped away from us. Pamela visited us at home a couple more times after our daughter was born. We were very grateful for those visits when, again, Pamela answered our questions and offered her support. I am so thankful that I/we had Pamela there to enrich the experience. I would highly recommend her to all expectant parents.
This is a time I wish I was better at expressing myself with words. Having Pamela with me for the birth of my daughter was amazing. Pamela calm demeanor and ability to support you in whatever choices you need was great, having her there to back me up and tell me that I had the right to ask for what I needed even if doctors didn’t fully agree was so important and helpful. I was meant to have a scheduled C-section but baby decided to come a day early. I felt like the doctors weren’t listening or taking my concerns seriously but Pamela helped me voice my concerns and tell the doctors I wasn’t going home and waiting it out. It turned out to be the right choice because I went in to active labor a few hrs later and very nearly had my baby on the OR table. During labor Pamela seemed to know what I needed and when without me even saying a word, from coming over and rubbing my back or standing in front of me and helping me breath. I have never felt so supported before. I wish I had the right words to express just what a great doula Pamela really is. Anyone would be lucky to have her.
As first timers, my husband and I decided to have a doula support us through the birthing process. It turns out that having Pamela as our doula was the best decision we could have made. She instilled a calm confidence in us as we pushed through a drawn out labour that resulted in an emergency c-section. She offered guidance for both of us, while giving us space to navigate the experience as a couple. Pamela is very aware and respectful of her clients' needs and values. She is professional yet personable and has a grounding presence in the birthing room. I cannot imagine going through what I did without Pamela by my side. She continued to support us as a new family after the birth and put together a beautiful birth story that will always remind us of how fortunate we are to have a healthy baby girl in our lives. Thank you Pamela!
