My wife Tracy and I may write another piece together, but I wanted to write my own testimonial about how Lily was wonderful to me as a father-to-be/new father. At no point during the pregnancy was I ever opposed to hiring a doula, but I really thought of it as something that was for Tracy - I was happy that she would get the support and guidance she wanted and needed. I never expected having a doula (and specifically having Lily) would be so helpful to me as well. Nothing about the birth went according to plan. We were several days past the due date and went in to induce on Fathers Day with the expectation that the actual birth wouldn't happen until the next day.
That's not what happened. Tracy (who hates needles and wanted an unmedicated water birth) ended up very rapidly needing a C-section due to some scary heart decelerations our almost-daughter had in response to early labor. We got Lily on speaker phone from the hospital room and she left her own Father's Day with her own father to come to us, helping talk through what was about to happen first via phone and then in person. She made it in time but was informed that due to the OR being small, she would not be able to join Tracy for the actual C-section. I would be permitted in when the procedure was about to start, but that left a chunk of time during the prep when it was just Lily and I together.
No longer worried about keeping on a brave face for Tracy's sake, I shared with Lily how scared and helpless I felt. I had complete faith in the doctors and nurse-midwives, but it was still a frightening and unexpected development. She was amazing. I couldn't imagine a better guide and companion for those minutes (which felt like seconds and days all at once). And she even helped us manage family before, during, and right after the birth. Lily was amazing for us that day and she has my eternal gratitude and a special place in my heart. I can't speak highly enough about her!!!
We had planned to have Lily come by once or twice over the first couple of weeks after our son was born, until my sister came to stay. But due to a difficult labor and some tearing, I was much more incapacitated than I had hoped and so Lily came around alot that first month. She was invaluable; whether it was breast feeding advice, baking cookies (tasty cookies!) that helped with milk flow, ensuring that I was getting enough liquids & food, organizing the kitchen, nursery, and providing good advice and a sounding board for figuring out the day to day schedule, Lily threw herself into whatever would make those initial weeks easier for baby & me. She was so helpful and was a comforting and practical presence in our home. I would very happily work with Lily again and wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend her services.
We initially retained Lily after hearing from her through my therapist to help me prepare for and endure my second birth of my daughter after a long traumatic first birth of my son. I can say without a doubt that there is no one quite like Lily. She wholeheartedly supports everything that you need and without judgement. She was instrumental in preparing both my husband and I for what ultimately became an extremely fast labor, and stood up for my needs when I was unable. We ended up retaining her for postpartum doula services as well and she was absolutely incredible and helped me through the initial postpartum period and in seeking help for postpartum depression and breastfeeding difficulty. She actively solves problems, has an amazing soul and I'm so happy to have known her and had her help through this time period. If you are considering a Doula look no further than Lily. She is one of the best!
My husband and I were referred to Lily by my sister and brother in law who couldn't say enough about how valuable she was at their birth. We clicked right away when we first met her. We could tell that she would bring a large amount of knowledge and support for both of us during labor. Over the course of our prenatal meetings, she really took the time to get to know us and what we envisioned for ourselves when the big day came. Fast forward to the big day, she instantly put me at ease when she arrived. She suggested all sorts of labor positions that I never would have tried. I vividly remember her and my husband breathing through each and every contraction with me which got me through a natural delivery. Having her there provided an immense source of comfort not only for myself but for my husband as well. I know we would have been very anxious without her there. So happy we found Lily! We would recommend her to anyone expecting a baby.
In addition to her great personality, sense of humor, comforting techniques and pain management stratgies, what I liked most about Lily is her overall demeanor. She's very calming and soothing. I was induced and at one point we came to a point where the doctors offered us options of how we'd like to proceed. Lily helped us sort through the options and whatever we decided, she supported. I didn't feel pressured to choose one thing over another. We went over our birth plan prior to the birth and I thought Lily was conscientious of our desires throughout the whole experience. Even after the birth, Lily's follow up meeting and accessibility was invaluable. Months after giving birth Lily was still available to answer my breastfeeding questions. I give Lily my highest recommendation!
Lily is an amazing doula, she is so supportive in any situation. She is incredibly respectful of your wishes for your birth, whatever they might be and is able to help support you no matter what comes up. One of the things I loved about Lily is that she communicates in the way you want to, if you prefer to ask questions over email or text, she is very responsive. We decided to use Lily when I was about 20 weeks pregnant, we were living out of State and all of our comminucation was through the phone or emails, and still I felt like I really got to know her and she was extremely helpful. She answered any little question I had. When we got to Boston we met and discussed our plans in more detail and she also helped with stretches/positioning to combat my back pain and to try and get baby into a better position. Lily is able to read people and the situation very well, so she knows how to support you without a lot of instruction. At 37 weeks she came to an ECV with us and helped support me during the procedure. Although I had planned a med free birth I ended up with a C section because baby was breech, she was with us every step of the way, including laboring in the hospital and in the OR keeping me calm during what ended up being a complicated C section. After baby was born she continued to support us, and is a wonderful post partum doula as well. I was so glad we chose Lily, she was truly with us every step of the way.
My partner and I are so grateful to have had Lily supporting us through the final weeks of my pregnancy and the birth of our son. We would recommend her with gusto to anyone looking for a birth or postpartum doula.
Lily has genuine warmth and a healing touch about her, but she’s also clearheaded and pragmatic. From our first meeting, I felt that Lily heard and interpreted our fears, hopes, and needs with an intuitive and open mind. By the time my due date arrived, Lily had spent hours getting to know us as individuals and as a couple, acting as a supportive sounding board and source of excellent advice for pregnancy aches, pains, anxieties, and questions.
She walked us through comfort measures for labor as a couple, encouraged us to practice together and explained a lot about what we might expect in early labor, contractions, and various medical and nonmedical scenarios.
These pre-labor sessions with Lily were invaluable and were far more helpful and beneficial than the expensive childbirth classes we took. She helped me to feel prepared, confident and excited about giving birth, and I think my partner felt the same.
As our due date came and went, Lily continued to be responsive and supportive about our changing options, and helped me to keep calm and have the courage of my convictions. I quickly learned that the old cliché “you don’t know what you don’t know’ is a real thing. But Lily’s knowledge of birth and labor helped, and reminded us to ask questions we wouldn’t have known to otherwise. She also prompted our support people and medical staff to give us more information than they initially offered.
Snag Lily if you can! She is professional, unflappable, empathetic, not at all judgmental, and clearly loves what she does.
Lily has been a huge asset to our home. After having my third child and my husband not being able to take as much time off with his new job, I was in great need of assistance. We had previously had another doula in our home, who could no longer assist us due to scheduling. She gave us a list of doulas that were available and Lily seemed to good to be true. I almost didn't call. Thank goodness I did, of the 8 doulas I called, I immediately felt connected with her and felt like she had all the skills and the energy to help us. Not only do I have three kids four years and under, but I have also dealt with postpartum depression after each pregnancy. Lily has been very supportive, calls or texts to check in and follow up after hours. She is quick to come up with solutions around the house and once they are in place, she checks up on how the new systems are working the next time she visits. As soon as I was showing any signs of postpartum depression, she helped put me in touch with resources that could help and made sure that I followed through and connected right away. We are also vegetarian and I love that she has an array of healthy dishes at hand for our household, as well as vegan options so we aren't always leaning on dairy. She even made healthy cookies that truly are healthy! Amazing for this sugar-addicted mom. She is great with the kids and has helped expand their vegetable eating repetorie and even manages to make meals out of scraps when we are at the end of the grocery week. Her massage work is incredibly helpful to nursing and infant/toddler carrying shoulders. She has a great sense of balance and I always have a list of things to accomplish that no human could ever finish, yet she somehow crosses off more than half the list each visit. She is flexible, courteous and has a calming energy about her. Thank you, Lily! We are very lucky to have connected with you!
We cannot say enough good things about Lily. When it was all over, we were so glad we had hired a doula and this doula in particular. To begin with, Lily is an absolutely lovely person - kind, gentle, understanding, patient, and with a good sense of humor. We found that, independent of the many strategies she employed to help with labor, her mere presence was tremendously reassuring. Both before and after delivery, Lily was highly accessible and responsive to our texts, calls, questions, and concerns. During labor, she provided helpful and creative options to work through contractions such as breathing exercises, aroma therapy, massage and pressure points. Equally helpful was her coaching/advising throughout the process. Whatever situation arose or whatever the doctors and nurses might propose to us, we had the reassurance that Lily could help us to carefully evaluate our options. If you are thinking of hiring a doula, we give Lily our full and unreserved endorsement.
My husband and I are so so happy we had Lily there with us for the birth of our first baby. Lily helped us to put together our birth plan, hitting all the points that were important to us. She was a wonderful advocate to have and helped us to stick to our birth plan as much as possible. I felt like Lily was my left hand, and my husband was my right hand. She was able to answer any questions we had about medical procedures or drugs the hospital may suggest to us. There was a point during my labor where I was trying to refrain from pushing, and Lily helped me breathe thru the contractions to keep from pushing while my husband tried to get some rest. Which leads me to my next point. Having a doula not only helps the mom, but benefits the dad, too. Lily was a good support system for my husband as well because it relieved some of the pressure he may have felt, and just knowing he had someone to turn to for advice or questions, was comforting. I would recommend Lily to anyone who is expecting and may want the support of a doula.
