My husband and I weren’t sure if we needed or wanted a doula for our birth, but we’re so glad that we chose to work with Kate. She was such a great resource and support throughout the pregnancy, birth and now in our first few months with our son.

It was so nice to have someone to go to when we had concerns or questions that we didn’t want to bother our doctor with. Kate is careful to avoid providing medical advice, but she is extremely knowledgeable and is always ready to provide information and articles on issues related to pregnancy, birth, postpartum recovery, and breastfeeding so that you can make your own well-informed decisions. She helped us learn more about our choices on topics ranging from gestational diabetes screening to circumcision.

I ended up having a c-section (failure to progress after nearly 48 hours of labor!). Even though Kate wasn’t allowed in the OR with us for the actual birth, it was so helpful to have her there with us at the hospital (perhaps even more so than if we’d had the “perfect” natural birth that we’d planned for). After staying with us or at least staying in touch over the phone during my long labor, she stayed with me when I got my epidural (my husband has issues with needles), helped us move our stuff to the recovery room, kept our families in the loop, and helped us transition to the recovery room and then into our postpartum room.

Kate also connected us with other resources when we needed help both during my pregnancy and postpartum. I had severe hip pain during pregnancy, and she directed me to a wonderful physical therapist who specializes in women’s health. I also had difficulty breastfeeding, and she recommended a great lactation consultant who helped get us back on track.

Kate’s calm, confident presence was such a comfort to my husband and me as we went through our long labor. I can’t recommend her enough.

Kate was my doula for the birth of my first child on March 17, 2016. I chose Kate because she made me feel comfortable right from the start during our initial meeting. I wanted to try to have a natural birth, but I wasn't sure if I could do it. Kate was encourging but also supportive regardless of whatever type of birth I would choose to have.

The day of labor, Kate showed up really quickly and was there from the start. She helped my husband with exercises to calm me and support me. She was also there when my husband had to go talk to family in the waiting room. in addition, when I wasn't sure if I could do a natural birth, she was there encouraging me and reminding me of my breathing. Apparently he doctor and nurses didn't think I was in that much pain because of how calm I was during labor with my breathing. That was all due to Kate's calming prescense and reminder to breathe!

I look back on my labor and welcoming my daughter into the world and it was everything I could've hoped for and such a positive experience. I would not have been able to do it without Kate and I can't thank her enough.

Dwan Bray Birth Doula

Kate came to my bedside after a very traumatic birthing experience. I had an emergency cesarean and my baby was transferred to NICU. I was very overwhelmed and felt as if no one could truly understand what I was feeling until, Kate arrived. She validated my feelings, listened to me vent and shared her experience and expertise. I didn't feel alone any more. Kate didn't leave me to feel abandoned in my emotions. Kate has given more excellent referrals for continued mental and emotional health. One of the best additions added to her services was her starting a nicu page for mother's to network and vent their journeys, to keep each other encouraged. Kate has been the best postpartum Doula. She continued to check on me through the weeks of my baby being in nicu. She supported and encouraged me daily, even with pumping for my baby. I'm more than appreciative and words couldn't truly describe my gratitude. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for quality and professional Doula services.

Kate is wonderful! I can't say enough about the tenderness and compassion she brings along with her wisdom and knowledge. She knew exactly what I needed, even when I didn't. I don't think I could have made it in the NICU without the resources Kate brought as well as her willingness to be not only a listening ear but to be present when I needed her the most.

Kate has continued to be available as our baby grows, knowing the rawness and emotions that can come with having a preemie. I am so thankful for her and all she has done for our family. Kate will always hold a special place in my heart.

I cannot say enough good things about Kate Rich! I hardly knew what a doula was when I first met with Kate. I was well into my second trimester with my third child and starting to feel more and more like I wanted to try to have a natural childbirth for the first time. But I felt so clueless and unprepared, which gave me anxiety and that is not something I wanted to feel unnecessarily in the labor and delivery room. Meeting with Kate leading up to my due date gave me knowledge and tools to help me feel more equipped for the big day. She answered my questions and always made me feel comfortable whether teaching us techniques or helping my husband and I process our feelings, fears, and desires for the delivery. Kate is so knowledgeable and has a way about her that is calming and gives you the confidence that you are in good hands (with her) and that you are capable of doing anything! Having Kate as our doula made all the difference in the world for my pregnancy and delivery. I will forever be grateful for her!

If you are looking for a doula who is compassionate, knowledgable, professional, and passionate...Kate is the doula for you.

Kate was our doula for the birth of our first child, born December 11, 2015. When I contacted Kate, and I was thrilled with how comfortable she made me feel immediately. She came to our home to meet with me and my husband, and spent a lot of time answering questions we had about birth and spending time educating us on things that, as first time parents, we weren't very knowledgable about. She spent time getting to know us, as well, and learned about our journey to parenthood.

It was comforting to know that if we ever had a question about something, I could call or text Kate and she was a source of support. There were times when I asked her opinion on different medical options, and there were times when she spent time talking me through my feelings on things.

When I went into labor, we decided she would meet us at the hospital. She helped us decide that it might be best if we went home since my labor stalled at the hospital. She drove all the way home herself, only to have to turn around an hour later when my labor quickly picked back up. She was so kind and sweet about that.

Having her there during labor was so comforting And she helped with pain management.  Ultimately I did end up with an epidural near the end of labor, and even through that she and my husband worked together to make sure that's what I truly wanted.

while I pushed, She said encouraging things to me the whole time I was pushing, which helped me feel empowered and like I was doing a great job. She stayed for a while after our son was born, and helped us with breastfeeding.

I really can't say enough wonderful things about our experience with Kate. If we are blessed with more children, we wouldn't hesitate to have her work with us again. You'll be in good hands with this amazing doula, woman, and friend!

"You are safe"

These are the words I hear when I think back on the birth of my second child.

Kate spoke the exact words I needed to hear. My pregnancy and labor were incredible difficult. I experienced panic and worry often. When my anxiety consumed me she helped me find solid ground.

She is a wonderful listener.

Throughout my pregnancy and labor she listened to me, I felt heard and understood.

She is an attentive observer.

During my labor she used a rebozo, offered counter pressure, and gave me sips of water between each contraction.

Her presence brings peace.

Kate came to my house, in early labor, before my midwives showed up and she stayed with me for over 24 hours.

I cannot imgaine my pregnancy and birth without her. Kate reminded me to be kind to myself and to trust my instincts. She helped protect my mind from negative thoughts. My husband and I both felt so incredibly cared for throughout the pregnancy and birth, physcially and emotionally. She played a very big part in helping us achieving a healthy pregnancy and a natural birth at home.

This was my 4th birth & by far the most satisfying experience I have had. I felt completely supported during my pregnancy. I had given birth without pain killers once before, but had always had pitocin. I really wanted to try to go into labor MYSELF this final time and I DID! My birth plan was followed and I felt far less apprehension than ever before. My husband was so relieved to not be my sole means of support this time too. Not being on pitocin made my labor a breeze compared to the contraction I had experienced with my other children. It was so nice having someone to talk everything over with. If something had not gone the way I planned it (because labor has a way of doing that!) I feel like I would have been way more capable of dealing with it because of the wonderful person Kate is. I am still in awe, nearly 5 months later, of my pregnancy and birth experience and this was my 4th. Thank you. What a special gift!

I had never met Katherine before the night I had my son. She came straight from the airport to the hospital to stand in for the doula I had hired who had to go to work in a couple hours. Katherine stayed with me through my whole labor and for some time after. Before I had my epidural, she encouraged me to breathe through the pain. She got me ice chips. She had the nurse get me a hot pack for the spot where my epidural had worn off. And most importantly, she kept me calm and talked with me throughout the whole experience so I could be distracted from what was going on. She also was our family photographer! She took photos during my labor and took the first photos of my little one. Without her support, my labor and birth experience would have been completely different. She was a shining light in the dark, and thinking of her makes my heart smile.
