Birth Fee: $800 to $1200
Fee Details: I am a DONA International certified birth doula. I truly believe that education empowers us to choose the correct path for our lives. My role as a doula is to help empower each family with enough information to choose what works for them. Each family is unique and your birth experience should reflect that. I would like to help assist the birthing mother as well as the birth partner to achieve this. As a registered massage therapist of 17 years I will add my knowledge of the human body as well as comfort measures techniques to assist both the mother and partner throughout their journey. I believe a family can be made of many individuals and will support those who are on this journey together. Although each family has their ideal birth plan, I fully understand the additional support needed when things veer off course. As someone who has experienced an emergency Cesarean birth, a medicated vaginal birth and an unmedicated VBAC I can walk with you through this as well.

I felt right from the start like I had known Kirsten for much longer than I actually had - she is so warm and easy to talk to that she put me completely at ease as soon as I met her. In our meetings before the delivery, she did a great job of explaining everything, including answering some questions we didn't even know we had. She also asked us great questions about how we were feeling and what we wanted for the birth, helping me to realize things about what I wanted that I couldn't have pinpointed on my own. I also found it so reassuring that she was always available if I had questions leading up to the big day. If I read something online and started freaking out, I could always text Kirsten, and she would bring me back down to earth.
She was a very calm, grounding presence to have in the room during my rather long labor, once again anticipating needs I might not have even noticed without her. When the doctors told me it was time for a c-section, Kirsten was the one there reminding me that I didn't have to do anything I didn't want to. Then when I did decide to have the c-section, she was there helping me to take the time I needed and to talk to the doctor about how everything would go. Throughout the whole experience, all of the little things that she thought of and brought with her made me so much more comfortable in the unfamiliar hospital environment.
Afterwards, during my recovery and the early days of adjusting to the new human in my life, Kirsten's advice was so helpful. Maybe even more helpful in keeping the overwhelm at bay were her spot-on impressions of the crazy-pants things babies do when they are trying to nurse. Her good humor and calm attitude were contagious, and it really helped me to enter motherhood more relaxed myself and to enjoy my baby!
Kirsten is very kind and supportive. Being a first-time mom, my labor took a long time and Kirsten was extremely patient during the whole waiting game and helped us order food, switch positions as needed and helped coach the pushing. Afterwards, Kirsten also provided advice for newborn care.
The only downside is that we were separated from our doula while I was waiting for a room at the hospital (Holy Cross). They only allowed one person in the triage area and we were there for hours.
Kirsten was absolutely amazing!!! From our prenatal visits all the way to our postpartum visit! She provided us with plenty of resources and had plenty of her own resources she let us use during and after labor! She meshed well with our family and my Spouse and always made sure everyone was doing ok throughout the whole laboring process! I definitely will be using her for future pregnancies!
I cannot possibly recommend Kirsten more highly. She helped us through a complicated, prolonged labor/delivery and a very difficult post-partum experience, and I cannot imagine not having had her by my side through it all.
She has an incredible personality and is able to read the room and people so well -- she knew exactly what was required in each moment, whether it was stepping in to give a quick shoulder squeeze, leaving the room, distracting us with hilarious stories about her kids, helping to massage sore muscles or in just finding the words I needed to hear to push through to the next step.
With a strong foundation in medicine, a personal understanding of the birthing process and deep knowledge of the hospital and its staff, any time any of us posed a question to her, she knew the answer or exactly where to go to find it. She was the perfect sounding board, source of information, and an empathetic friend who understood what I was going through with each new pivot away from my original birth plan.
And she went above and beyond the call of duty time and again. When hours after getting out of the OR my mother ended up needing to go to the ER and my husband to a different hospital with our newborn, Kirsten stayed by my side until I had someone to sit with me again. She answered texts at all hours, ran out for food, necessities and niceties (like a face mask and nail polish) and was incredible at checking in throughout the pregnancy, labor and post in a kind, thoughtful and pressure-less manner.
Without Kirsten as my doula, I might still be in tears about my birth process; but with her by my side, I was able to power through and find strength I didn't know I had.
You really can end your search for a doula now -- Kirsten is the complete package and I will forever be grateful for the help she provided.
We recently hired Kirsten to help with the birth of our first child and found her to be exceptionally responsive, knowledgeable, and caring. She sat with us before the birth to address our fears and taught us a lot about the process. She listened to what we wanted and when the water broke, she worked hard to give us that. She was on call and present exactly when we wanted her to be – along with an impressive repertoire of tools and techniques that created a comfortable and positive atmosphere. She was our advocate and helper – our right hand. Plus she was personable and fun, along with being a complete professional. We recommend her strongly!
Kirsten was absolutely wonderful! From the very first visit to the last we immediately felt comfortable with Kirsten and that she was like family. During our prenatal visits we discussed my birth preferences and positioning and I was also impressed with how she engaged my husband in the process. Her goal was clearly to create a supportive birth team for our big day. After each visit my husband and I felt more excited and less nervous about the upcoming birth day. i ended up being in labor for almost three days and Kirsten was right there with me through every moment- always working with me to make me as comfortable as possible. During the times I questioned my ability to continue she kept me focused on the present moment and helped create a calming environment for my delivery. She was truly my advocate throughout the entire process. Kirsten also got along really well with my many family members who showed up during the delivery and they also commented on how amazing she was. Kirsten was a huge part of making the labor I wished for a reality. Bringing my little boy into the world was a beautiful experience I will always cherish. I'm so glad that Kirsten was a part of creating such wonderful memories for our family.
Kirsten was an excellent choice as a doula for us! She was very down to earth, geniune, and friendly, reminded me alot of one of my best friends! She was very attentive, detail oriented and informative before, during and after my birth experience. i have alot of anxiety and she was always able to ease my anxiety and make me feel confortable and reassured. Highly recommend her for any of your baby related needs!! :)
First time mama here, wanting a natural vaginal birth with my baby. I had recently moved to the DC area from CA over the new year expecting my little one end of May 2018. I worked with midwives and they suggested I hire a doula. I didn't know much about them so I read up on them, found them to be totally necessary, came across this site and narrowed down my search to 3 doula's. I interviewed the 3 and fell in love with Kirsten! She and I would be close friends outside any of this.
She is always on time, prepared and super knowledgeable in her craft. More over, she's super sweet and comforting to be around. She responds to my texts right away and reassures me whenever I have doubts or just talks me through what I'm feeling to come up with the best solution. She has three children of her own and has delivered them in 3 different ways which was not only impressive but also great knowing she had experienced giving birth herself in each way one could so she definitely knew how I was feeling.
I met with Kirsten at almost 36 weeks, super late in the game and still decided she was worth it. During labor she was there when I needed her and distanced herself when she could see I was in alot of pain and wanted to be left alone. I had my grandma and my partner in the room as well and she was very conscious of when to step in and when to let them take over. Once I had to start pushing, she was my biggest cheerleader. I gave vaginal birth to a healthy baby girl and couldn't be happier. I also used her placenta encapsulation services which I'm currently taking and love! The raving reviews about her are true and I would recommend her to those I love most. In fact, I already have but she was booked, so get her while you can. Thank you Kirsten!!
Cannot say enough great things about Kirsten. So incredibly kind and down to earth, relatable, understanding, accommodating. My labor and delivery went quickly (delivered 27 minutes after arriving at the hospital) but the assistance and support she provided was invaluable. I wasn't sure it was time to call her, but she knew and had it not been for her seeing me and telling me it was time to go, I probably would've had my daughter in the car. I wish so much that I could go back and have her support for my first 2 deliveries. I would recommend her again and again and again!
Kirsten was an absolutely fantastic doula and we would recommend her to anyone, regardless of your birth preferences and philosophies. She has personal experience with multiple types of childbirth with her own children (unmedicated, emergency c-section, epidural) and does not pass judgement on what is the "best" way to go about labor and childbirth. This was important to me, as I knew that I would probably end up getting an epidural and wanted a doula who would be supportive of that decision. Kirsten takes a very professional approach her work. She presents evidence-based information in a non-judgemental way and helps you to figure out an optimal birth plan that fits your preferences and philosophies.
One of the most valuable roles that Kirsten played was assisting my husband in being the most helpful he could be to me during labor and delivery. My husband was pretty nervous about the process, given that it was our first child and he is not the biggest fan of hospitals. During the two prenatal visits, she presented information that demystified the childbirth process and helped him feel ready for both birth and having a newborn. Then during labor, she worked with him to provide me with support in the most productive ways. This was invaluable during the pre-epidural period as well as during my extremely long pushing (4.5 hours!). Having both Kirsten and my husband there to help with comfort measures, as well as be my advocate, was so important and made my birith experience a positive one.
Kirsten was an unbelievable help to my wife and me as we went through this process. We weren't sure we wanted to use a doula at all but after only a few minutes with Kirsten we realized that it put both of us at ease to have someone with her experience and obvious care for her clients.
We called her on the day of to get her input and feedback about where we were in the birth and Kirsten helped walk us through exactly what we needed to do. As soon as I indicated it would be nice to have her with us she immediately came (around 10 pm!) and spent the next 14 hours with us (both at home and then at the hospital).
It was such an incredible support to have her at the hopsital with us to be there when the midwives could not. I can't imagine having to go through the process without her and look forward to using her again for our second child.
Kirsten is proof that not all superheroes wear capes. There are truly no words to describe the impact she had on our pregnancy and birth experience. Despite being first time parents, knowing that Kirsten was on our team gave us a sense of confidence and calm. During our prenatal sessions, she really got to know us as people, as well as to understand our desires, goals, concerns, and even fears. She walked us through a thoughtful curriculum and showed endless patience in answering all of our questions. Her range of knowledge is truly remarkable, and her depth of experience really shows.
And then there was the delivery... What can you say to do justice to the person who supports you through 30 hours of labor filled with unexpected medical decisions and eventually an unplanned C-section? Put simply, she was our rock. At every turn, Kirsten helped us to understand our options and empowered us to make the decisions that were right for us. She allowed us to tap into her wealth of experience, but never tried to push us in one direction or another.
We will be singing Kirsten's praises to anyone who will listen for a long time to come.
Kirsten Bodnarchuk of Northern Birth Roots was my doula for my third child, second VBAC. She was a tireless advocate for me in labor and delivery, supported me through an extremely long prodromal labor with a deep and abiding patience and love. She has an innate understanding of what the laboring mother needs and managed to provide for my needs before I even knew what I needed. We had a very tense few minutes during my birth - we lost the HB after AROM. This can be a difficult situation for a doula to support a laboring mother while staff is running in the room; it's hard to provide emotional support while not being in the way of life saving care. Kirsten managed seamlessly to support me while allowing access of my medical staff. I felt so much comfort being able to focus on her during the scariest 5 minutes of my life. Kirsten also was an amazing support for my husband; during my first labor he felt very alone and responsible for too much of my care; having Kirsten there to advocate for me took that burden off his shoulders but Kirsten took it an extra step ad advocated for him, making sure he was taking self care breaks. She checked in with him and was an invaluable asset. Absent those scary 5 minutes, my birth was the peaceful, healing, incredible experience I always envisioned and Kirsten was a key player in acheiving that. Both my husband and I would recommend her to anyone considering using a doula for their birth.
Kirsten is a highly knowledgable doula who assisted my birth in January 2018. One thing that i personnally sought after when interviewing doulas was their ability to be responsive and knowledgeable. Kirsten was spot on with her exensive knowledge of the birthing process - answering questons that I couldn't find answers to on Google.
My birth experience was unique as I was indcued earlier in my pregnancy, but Kirsten stood by me and partner every step of the way. She's warm and welcoming and put our needs before anything else. My induction turned out to be quite a long process and somewhat frustrating, but Kirsten never skipped a beat. While my partner and I were cranky at times with the uncertainty of the situation and the lack of sleep, she didn't falter and remained upbeat and cheerful. Her humor and overall cheerfulness got us through the long induction process and we are so very grateful for her and her services.
For all the dads out there, Kirsten was amazing and kept me sane throughout the birthing process. I'm a very attentive husband, but there are times you need to step away to take a drink of water (dads, stay hydrated!) or to simply take a moment (dads, remember to breath and don't lock your knees!). Obviously, none of this compares to the work Kirsten did for my wife -- nor am I comparing my need for a break with my wife's -- but for all the guys who might wonder whether there's really any added value from having a doula in the room with you, there totally is. Or, at least so long as your doula is Kirsten, there totally is.
Kirsten was there with us for the birth of both of our children. Two years ago, she was literally in hospital room with us for over 24 hours and, after complications, stuck around for another few hours to see us through the C-section. Our daughter was born VBAC, but again because of some delays, Kirsten was steadfast with us for a solid 12 hours. All told, during those 36+ hours, knowing that your wife is in such good hands really helps ease your stress, even when you have to take a break to refuel from vending machines or cafeteria food lacking in all nutruitional value.
Above all that, there's only so much time to research before the birthing process, and only so much time a doctor, midwife, or nurses can be in the room. Kirsten was amazing at translating into plain language terms we may not have heard before and calming nerves and rebaselining when some of the medical stuff gets intense.
Seriously, dads, Kirsten was amazing. Having a doula definitely made both birth experiences fond memories for both my wife and I. Even for a second time around, when we had experienced pretty much everything one can experience the first time around, it was still such a help having Kirsten with us. If nothing else, knowing she was there to support my wife in the last few moments freed my hands up to catch my newborn daughter!
Kirsten was AMAZING, I highly recommend her services. She was personable, kind, and helpful throughout my pregnancy, and went above and beyond when I was in labor. She had a positive attitude, comforted and encouraged me, and supported my partner throughout the entire 47 hour-long labor/delivery. We are so grateful to have found Kirsten.
I cannot say enough good things about working with Kirsten through my first and second births. She is highly educated, always up to date in the latest science, is incredibly compassionate, calm through the storm and a wonderful source of strength and light especially in the rough parts. She always listens to what you want and gives you what you need without asking for it. She always made herself available pre and post partum for any questions or concerns I had which was such a help. All of this is done with a smile and an open heart. Kirsten is a realist, which I love about her, telling it like it is and super easy to talk to you. You feel like you are with a good and trusted friend with Kirsten. Don't hesitate to sign up for her doula services, you won't regret it in anyway!!
Kirsten was an amazing doula for my birth! Although it was my 3rd child, I was still unsure about delivery and she helped put me at ease. She came to our house twice and went over my birth plan and what things that I did and did not want during labor for comfort measures. She was also very familiar with the midwives that I chose to deliver and what their policies were. She always responded to my text messages or calls. My labor happened very quickly, and Kirsten was able to get to our house in time to get through the back labor contractions before deciding to go to the midwifery center. She stayed with me through the birth and made sure the baby was latching properly. I am so grateful Kirsten was there for the physical and emotional support I needed! I would definitely reccommend her to anyone considering a fun, attentive, compassionate and attentitive doula!
The best decision I made during my entire pregnancy was hiring Kirsten as my doula. My husband was first hesitant, but now if you ask him, he would have said hiring Kirsten was the best investment for us. First, Kirsten came to our home twice to help us prepare for the big day. She always gave pointers and advice -- to the point where I always had a notepad when she was around because she would have so many helpful things to say that I didn't want to forget. She was always staying connected with me, texting and calling to check-in on me. More importantly, I honestly believe I wouldn't have made it through the labor without Kirsten (and I had both my mom and husband with me). First, she actually drove us to the hospital! I also had a very long labor, where I went in on Tuesday evening and gave birth to my son Thursday morning -- and Kirsten didn't sleep or nap once. She was always by my side - even when my husband and mom were napping. During labor, the midwives barely were around and I had the occasional nurse stop by, but having Kirsten with me was like having a nurse and midwife with me the entire process. I had a difficult delivery, and there were so many times I turned to Kirsten for help and she always encouraged me and hugged me, and it was because of her wonderful, positive energy that I was able to get enough energy to muster on. Even after birth, Kirsten was a godsend. She knew where everything was, she knew who to talk to - having Kirsten in the room with me was really like having an advocate by my side. After the birth, she called and emailed to check-up on me to see how I was recovering and how my baby boy was doing. I was very anxious about my breastmilk supply, and she was so incredibly supportive, providing me with so many resources (and even let me borrow a scale to weigh my baby). I 100% will want Kirsten by my side if there is a baby #2!
Kirsten is a fantastic doula! She supported my husband and me with prenatal visits, sharing resources, and answering our numerous questions over email/text. We appreciated all the helpful tips she gave us which made us feel infinitely more confident going into the labor experience. On the day my labor started, she was on the phone with us frequently checking in with us and giving us labor position suggestions. When we were ready for her to come to our apartment she came right away. At the hospital, she gave me immense pain relief with massage therapy and changing up the positions. When I was exhausted and felt like I couldn't stand any longer she helped center me and find the inner strength to keep going.
The postnatal visit was similarly so helpful with additional tips to help with my healing and breastfeeding. The tips and resources she provides are leaps and bound beyond what my midwife provided.
I can't say enough good things about Kirsten! I can't imagine my birth experience without her, and my husband and I will be forever grateful for her expertise and giving us the labor experience we had hoped for.
Kirsten was an amazing and invaluable member of my birthing team. She arrived very quickly after we called and told her I was in labor. She was lighthearted when the mood called for it, quiet when I needed quiet, strong when I needed someone other than my husband to lean on, and all without having to be asked...she just knew. She knew from our prenatal meetings that wanted my husband to be my main support and found ways to lovingly guide him so that he was the very best birth partner. Her presence never felt intrusive and I cannot imagine having had this wonderful birthing experience without her.
I was initially skeptical about hiring a doula, mostly because I didn't know much about what their role was, but as a first time mom I wanted any extra support I could find and I am beyond thankful that found Kirsten! Starting with the initial interview, the passion she has for helping moms-to-be immediately came through and remained that way throughout my pregnancy and even weeks after my little one was born. Kirsten was always available, at any hour of the day or night, for questions, concerns, or even just to chat when I needed a little extra reassurance. Kirsten's ability to keep me (and my husband) calm during my pregnancy including a 2 day induction and 10 hour labor (with no epidural!) was amazing. I also loved how well she worked with the other medical professionals at the hospital. Her bag of tricks came in handy for both pain management techniques, as well as the emotional support that she was able to provide throughout this journey. I honestly could not have done it without her! I highly recommend Kirsten to any expecting family, and would most definitely use her again if we decide to give Zackary a brother or sister one day. :)
Kirsten was an awesome resource for us before, during, and after the labor of our first child. In addition to helping us overcome fears, she was always finding ways to make sure our needs were met. She used her ample experience to quickly become the third member of our team. Whether we asked directly for help or not, she was constantly finding ways to contribute to our needs. From our first interaction with Kirsten, my wife and I were comfortable with her as she bravely answered any question or concern on our minds. We would definitely recommend her!
Kirsten was wonderful!! I found her with only days before my delivery, but she was willing to help. I had a difficult delivery and Kirsten was there every step of the way. She was easy to talk to and got along well with my family and the hospital staff. I am normally quite private, but found it very easy to open up to Kirsten when we talked before and after my delivery. I was soooooooooooooooooo extremely happy to have her support during the delivery. She talked me through my contractions, let me know what to expect, answered my questions, and supported me throughout. She was there to help with nursing afterward and was so helpful when she came to my home afterwards. I really cannot recommend her enough.
Kirsten was an absolutely integral component to my success in delivering my second child naturally. I had given birth naturally once before, but this time, the knowledge and fear of the pain overwhelmed me. It didn't help that I was a service member- working full time with a toddler at home and a husband who was deployed. Once I met Kirsten, I felt instantly safe. Her personality renewed my spirit and confidence in myself. Her educational background and ability to articulate herself scientifically, assured me. As an RN, I can be a pretty tough critic.
When the day came along, Kirsten showed up quickly, even though it was the middle of the night. She helped me labor at home and followed me and my mom to the hospital when I was ready. During my hospital stay, I spent most of my time in the shower. She didn't mind getting in the water, or getting her hands dirty. Her use of massage was very appreciated. She helped me find my rhythm when I lost it, or started to panic. She even helped calm my mom, who was a nervous wreck. After six hours in the hospital with no change, I was ready to give up. She helped me stay strong. I am a firm believer that if it wasn't for Kirsten's help with position changes, my baby would not have come out vaginally. After help with position changes and lots of encouragement, I went from 5 to compete in an hour and delivered. My mom still mentions how fantastic Kirsten was to our family, and now that I have changed specialties to become a labor and delivery nurse, my appreciation for her grows. I highly recommend Kirsten to anyone having a baby, no matter the method. She will make you feel loved, supported, and safe!
Kirsten is an excelent doula. She is knowledgable, professional and nurturing. Now that I'm looking back I can't imagine what it would have been like without her. I wanted to have an unmedicated birth and was recommended by my friends to have a doula. This was our first pregnancy and we had very little knowledge of what to expect both physically and emotionally. Kirsten was helpful in educating us in what to expect in the weeks leading up to the birth, the childbirth process itself, and what to expect postpartum. She listened to all of our questions and concerns and addressed them patiently and thorouly. I needed additional help and support who is knowledgable and experienced other than my husband.
We were so grateful and happy to have Kirsten with us. I found her excellent coaching and support extremely valuable. She was responsive, even in the middle of the night, and she helped explain the procedures to us in ways that were easy to understand during such a stressful time. She was also very helpful as we made important decisions during labor, giving us more context and understanding based on her experience. This definitely helped us feel a whole lot better during some important decisions.
She was patient and attentive throughout my long labor and a great support in moments where I thought I would not be able to deliver the baby. She suggested different labor positions and helped me maintain calm and focus. In addition to her active coaching, Kirsten also made sure I was hydrated and to keep up my physical energy, as well as making our room feel less like a hospital and more like a home. She suggested music which was very soothing and relaxing for me. Kirsten was not only a doula to us, but a friend and we are so grateful for everything she did for us!
Kirsten is an outstanding doula! Her knowledge and sensitive care helped give us the peaceful, beautiful and fun birth we desired. Kirsten has a warm and friendly personality, and she made us feel at ease from the moment we met her. Kirsten's passion for helping women and their partners and love of babies is very obvious, and I think one of the best things about her is that she genuinely listened to our concerns and desires and based her advice and actions on what we wanted. Kirsten treated us with the utmost respect and was never judgemental of our wishes or choices. We never felt like she was trying to push her own agenda. She was available to us whenever we needed her and she always made us feel like our questions or concerns were valid and important. She scheduled our visits with her when it was most convenient for us and she always returned messages promptly. Kirsten was a crucial factor in our ability to have an unmedicated childbirth in the birthing center, and I believe her support, knowledge and advocacy would have been just as critical had we decided to go to the hospital or if I required induction or a c-section. She anticipated my needs and tailored her comfort measures to what i needed in the moment based on her sensitive observations of the situation and knowledge of my personality. Kirsten provided the guidance and reassurance we needed during labor and delivery every step of the way. While pushing, I was afraid I would not be able to push the baby out and I believe my doubts were hindering my progress. Kirsten read the worry on my face, encouraged me to express myself and helped me work through my fears. My husband was worried too, and her support and gentle suggestions for him helped him to be there for me. Without her, I may have ended up going to the hospital because I would have continued to hold back in fear. Postpartum, she provided essential breastfeeding support, personal and baby care tips. We will be forever grateful for Kirsten!
My husband and I hired Kirsten for the birth of our first child, and I can honestly say it was the best decision we made with regard to the pregnancy and delivery. We are both active military and were in a very intense academic program during the pregnancy, so we didn't have time to attend classes or do much research. We did the full package and had Kirsten come out for several visits before the due date, where she covered everything we could possibly need and made us feel much better about our lack of preparation. She is very well educated on all subjects related to pregnancy, labor and delivery and was able to break things down and provide resources for anything we wanted to look into further. Most importantly, she has an easygoing, laid back personality and a great sense of humor, and she put both of us at ease, even my husband, who wasn't sure about the whole doula experience starting out.
When it came to the actual labor, Kirsten was a life saver. I labored in and out of the hospital for 71 hours and had Kirsten on the phone throughout until we were finally admitted. Her advice and guidance helped me get the baby repositioned after 18 hours of difficult back labor which was caused by the position of the baby's head. When we finally arrived at the hospital, Kirsten was a game changer, providing physical and emotional support after a long labor and allowing my husband to take breaks when he needed to, while ensuring I had everything I needed. She also got along great with the hospital staff, which was very important to me as well.
Kirsten's guidance and presence in the delivery room allowed us to achieve our goal of a drug-free, natural delivery despite several challenges along the way, which led to a healthy, happy baby. Her postpartum guidance was also a huge help in my recovery and our confidence in the early days with baby. We would hire her again in a heartbeat!!!
I cannot recommend Kirsten's work highly enough, she was great to work with throughout my first pregnancy as well as my labor and after when i was having trouble breastfeeding. Even though I was a bit skeptical about whether and why we would need a doula when I have a partner and family around and we planned to have a hospital birth, having a doula to support you is a great investment and we are really glad we chose Kirsten.
We found Kirsten to be very friendly and easy to be with (we totally miss her in our lives now!) but also really knowledgeable and professional about all aspects of labor and delivery - a very hard mix to master! Given that I knew I wanted all the medical assistance that was appropriate and that we would want to use medications like epidural pretty quickly, we were worried that a doula would try to push us to have a more natural birth than we wanted or that she would push us towards a long labor to avoid medical intervention, this was never an issue. Kirsten assured us early on, and followed through on ensuring, that she was there to help us have the birth we wanted without judgement. At the hospital she was efficient and knew where everything was and what to ask for and when. She was particularly helpful in answering my questions about what would happen next (despite having read every book and website beforehand, you forget everything it seems!) so i could be prepared for next steps and was great at keeping me calm as we got closer to delivery time when i was getting scared. She worked really well with my husband and mother, allowing them to share in the experience without it feeling like there were too many people in the room.
She is also gives amazing massages - I booked a prenatal massage at my home with Kirsten during my pregnancy and it was excellent! A great bonus as well during labor when I was feeling tense and Kirsten used her skills to help me.
My husband and I had a great experience with Kirsten! She helped us deliver our first Child. She was very comfortable to be around and was easy to befriend. She was prompt for each appointment, professional, encouraging and incredibly supportive. My labor came on suddenly. I gave birth in 4.5 hours! I don't know what my husband and I would have done had Kirsten not been by our side in the delivery room. She helped me to stay focus and taught me how to push, lol. She was also a reassuring voice in the mist of chaos. I'd definitely hire her again.
We were referred by a friend to use Destined Doulas. She had just had a baby and found the service very helpful and comforting. We were interested in hiring a Doula because our families didn't live close and those who did wouldn't have the flexibly to support us at a drop of a hat or around the clock when labor came.
We felt at the time and still do, that it was worth every penny that we spent. It was our first child and lots of unknowns. I had developed preclamcia and had to be induced at 37 weeks. So they started my induction at 11pm Oct 4th and I didn't have the baby till Oct 6th 5 am. My husband sleeps horribly on a good day with a great mattress. Kirsten stayed with me through the night and everything that I needed or wanted her help with. My husband could go home and sleep at night, at least a few hours, which allowed both of us to feel better. I appreciated the knowledge, physical and emotional support through it all. She helped me understand my options and explained the medical jargon when I just was too tired to get it. She even took pictures and noted all the events and process so I would know what happened later. You'd be surprised how quickly you forget things when you start breastfeeding around the clock. Kirsten even helped explain all the changes to my pregnant, non-pregnant, and breastfeeding body. Tips for everything including breastfeeding. It was nice to talk with someone, build that repore and know they would be with you in the labor/delivery room when you aren't yourself and can't always think straight. It was nice to have someone who had gone through it and helped several others to do it.
It was all well worth it. I had lost my mom almost 20 years prior so it was so nice to have someone so knowledgable and supportive through the experience. Believe it or not, we laughed a lot. I needed that.
Kirsten was a fantastic doula and I would give her my highest recommendation! She was incredibly valuable when we were in labor, but she also was key to helping us prep for the big day. In retrospect, I think I most valued Kirsten's calm, confident presence because she made me feel reassured and much less overwhelmed. She was also resourceful--if I needed something, from advice, to snacks to suggested positions for pushing, Kirsten was willing to provide ideas and solutions without being pushy. Kirsten worked extremely well with the hospital team and my midwives and she often helped translate/ further explain what was happening to ensure I was informed and comfortable. Other than that, Kirsten is just a generally positive and funny person to be around, and I think she helped me balance my desires to keep things light (not get too serious) and still enjoy the very special process of welcoming our baby into the world. I think Kirsten was really flexible and was always focused on my husband and me rather than her idea of what a birth should be like. Overall we really enjoyed working with Kirsten. While this was our first child and we weren't exactly sure what to expect or how much value having s doula would be, I am grateful that we decided to have a doula and I feel that Kirsten's value to us as first timers far outweighed the fees for her services. I would absolutely use Kirsten's services again for a subsequent pregnancy and have no reservations whatsoever in recommending her to others.
Hiring Kirsten was the single best decision we made while planning for our son's arrival. After interviewing several doulas, I knew immediately Kirsten was the best fit for us. She was calm, funny, knowledgeable and completely put me at ease. She came to our home for several visits before the baby was born, and by the time I went into labor I felt like she was an old friend. I had early signs of labor early friday morning, and immediately reached out to Kirsten, we stayed in touch throughout the day as I prepared for the birth. She reached out to check in with me periodically as well, and talked me through all of the symptoms. By the time I went into full-fledged labor that evening, every technique went right out the window, but Kirsten helped both over the phone, then in person to get me through each contraction. With her directing my relaxation techniques, suggesting new laboring positions, and aiding me with massage and hip squeezes, the pain was much more manageable. After a couple of hours we headed off to the hospital, and Kirsten followed behind us, coaxing me through the contractions from her bluetooth. By the time I got to the hospital, I was 8 cm dilated! The nurses and midwives were completely surprised I'd labored that far at home. Kirsten worked seamlessly with my midwives to keep me calm and as comfortable as possible throughout my labor and delivery. When it came time to push, and I was scared and ready to give up, she and my midwife gave me the confidence I needed to push. She took some beautiful photos of the moment my husband and I met our son, and stayed with us to help ensure he latched. As I struggled with breastfeeding, and an infection in the days and weeks after delivery, she was helpful and supportive and available. I am so thankful to Kirsten for her support and confidence, and if I had to do it all over again, would hire her again in a heartbeat.
The BEST! Kirsten is worth her weight in gold and then some. We could not imagine having had our prep, labor, delivery and post-partum experience without her. She has my HIGHEST recommendation. From the big picture to the minor details, Kirsten had all our concerns covered. She is an invaluable doula with a fount of knowledge, an upbeat personality & effortless adaptability throughout the birthing experience.
She has an approachable, kind & joyful demeanor that makes you feel like you've been friends for years. When my water broke, Kirsten reminded us of laboring positions, coping techniques & most importantly, was a smiling face to remind us our daughter was almost here! When Kirsten arrived at our home, she was INSTRUMENTAL in keeping me calm & focused through contractions while my husband prepped the car. She supported me as I stuck with our birth plan, laboring at home as long as possible. When it was time to go, I was not easily convinced out of the tub, but Kirsten's gentle, firm encouragement managed to get me out of the tub just in time as I arrived at the birth center 9.5cm dilated. She covered all the details like closing our car doors, parking the car & bringing in our bags as we focused on meeting our baby. At the birthing center, she worked seamlessly between me, my husband & the midwives, keeping communication lines clear, open & upbeat. In the pushing stage, Kirsten always offered reassurance at the perfect time, boosting our confidence when we most needed it. My labor progressed A LOT faster than any of us expected - which I attribute in large part to Kirsten's great advice before & during labor to get the baby in the ideal position. After baby's arrival, she continued to be a tremendous source of support & knowledge - Kirsten not only seems like a good friend, but becomes one. Thanks to Kirsten, the labor & delivery of our daughter is one of our happiest experiences and fondest memories.
