First of all, let me say, I would have never made it through this pregnancy or delivery without Elizabeth! She was such a constant support, encouraging, kind, funny, uplifting...and so patient and understanding. I found myself alone, going through a divorce during the pregnancy, and had no labor support - but Liz exceeded my expectations and needs. I'm sure I wasn't an "easy" client (being a L&D/high risk OB RN myself), but she took it all in stride, was an amazing listener, and excellent support. I also really enjoyed her as my Roots Childbirth instructor.
Although the delivery turned out opposite of everything I'd hoped for ("nurse curse" - pre-eclampsia, induction, Mag, urgent c-section), she was there every step of the way and supported me through it all. She helped me focus on what was truly important and prayed me through me anxiety and stressful moments along the way.
I'd highly recommend her to anyone looking for an excellent doula experience! Love her so much and so grateful for her!
Elizabeth's Roots childbirthing class was such an amazing, God-centered, informational class! I most definitely recommend this class to anyone who would like a God-centered natural birth, or even if you just want to enter into a fearless childbirthing experience with great education, peacefulness, and nutrition accountability. All the materials & resources used in the Roots class are evidence based and up to date with the latest research allowing you to make your own informed decisions on your birth. We plan on having a natural home birth and I cannot imagine doing it without having taken this class with my husband. My husband learned so much as well and never felt uncomfortable being a male in the class; she will definitely help you with any specific issues you may encounter! As a first time "mother to be" knowing what is going on with my body throughout pregnancy, its purpose during labor, and how to care for my child and body post-partum helped me immensely. Additionally, we loved the positive birth stories and information given on natural interventions for pain management. Elizabeth is a fantastic teacher with a down to earth, calm energy, and a great sense of humor always communicating that you can have a rewarding natural birth. We feel super confident about our son entering into the world and have to thank her for this! God Bless, Samantha
Liz was great. She was available by phone any time -- a great source of information for me (first pregnancy). When labor started, she kept in touch until we decided together for her to come. She worked with my husband as a team to support me throughout my labor. During a long painful overnight labor, Liz was there. She made positioning suggestions to help with pain and encouraged my husband to help me eat/drink when I had forgotten those necessities. She monitored contraction length and encouraged us to call our midwife to come at the right time. For hours I had "back labor" and Liz was right there to rub my back, remind me to breathe, and encourage us. When my midwife determined that my baby malpositioned, the cause of my back labor and his inability to descend, Liz collaborated with her to determine positions that might improve his positioning. I was very retiscent to go to the hospital since this was not our birth plan. Liz was supportive of my decision to stay home but realized I only wanted to stay home out of fear of failure, not because I thought that was best. Liz reminded me that the goal was healthy baby, healthy mom and that there was a difference between pain that was assisting labor and pain that was only making me suffer. In the end, we elected to forgo a home birth and go to the hospital; Liz was supportive all the way. She encouraged us to ask about parts of our birth plan that we thought we'd have to forgo in the hospital (dad cutting the cord/delivering baby, delayed cord cutting, keeping baby with us). She even made sure there was music during the birth like we wanted. She stayed until after the birth and assisted with initial breastfeeding. Several days later, she came to assist further with latching issues. We loved having Liz be part of our son's birth and would absolutely request her services again in the future.
How do you find the right words to desribe such a positive experience with your doula? Professional. Elizabeth made me feel empowered by the knowledge she had and helped me to gain. It was evident that she had personal experience & reasearch based knowledge. Instead of making me feel insecure in such a vulnerable time in my life, I knew that she had me covered. Blessing is another word I would use. I called her numerous times when I felt so ready to have my baby in my arms. She was always there and never made me feel silly or like I was a burden to keep calling. She made me feel heard, she made me feel safe, & she made me feel strong. As a first time mom, sometimes it is easy to feel like others view you as "uninformed" but with Elizabeth I felt respected and empowered. My birth plan did not go the way I had anticipated, but she was there for each step and gave me the strength I needed to push on. She made me feel confident in my choices & it may sound silly, but she made me feel like it was "ok" to choose what I chose. In that moment I needed to feel like a strong mom & I didn't want to feel like "less of a mom" because my birth plan didn't go the way I had hoped. Until you have been in that moment you may not understand that feeling. Elizabeth made me feel like I was making the perfect choices for my body, baby, & family. Elizabeth prayed with me and reminded me that God was with me for each step of my child's birth. She was an advocate for me and never tried to press her own agenda. She would inform me of different options & would give me her opinions if I asked but she never made me feel terrible if I chose something different. She made the room peaceful and calm. She gave up being with her own family for my overnight birth & never made me feel like she was anywhere but with me 100%. My birth was beautiful because she was there. I pray everyone is able to have Elizabeth as their doula. Blessed she is part of my story.
