We loved meeting both Lori and KayLee and were delighted that Lori could be with us for the birth of our son and to follow up with us in the postpartum period. First, Lori came out to our home when I went into labor - she was an asset to both me and my husband as we experienced labor for the first time (first child was a scheduled c-section and this one was an attempted vbac). She adapted to our home life - making friends with our dogs - and was able to offer encouragement, support and perspective on when it might be a good idea to head into the hospital (I wanted my husband and Lori's opinion on when to mobilize).

At the hospital, Lori was a huge presence as part of the team: me in labor, husband as supportive spouse and Lori as our encouraging, hands-on doula. Because of her, I always felt supported - she always had my (our) wishes at the forefront. It is difficult to say how this labor might have been different without Lori - she was able to support me and my husband, take turns with him on providing counter pressure to my back during contractions (no small task) and really be present for me in a way that only another female can. From the verbal support they (husband and Lori) provided, I knew that I was doing everyting in my power to labor well and bring this little human into the world.

We did end up needing to do another c-section after 18 hours of labor (baby's head wasn't in the ideal delivering position) and Lori was able to be in the OR and stay with me when my husband went to the nursery with our son. I know that she was welcome in the OR due to the relationships LAD (Little Apple Doulas) have built with our local OBs and I'm so grateful. She also came to recovery with us - so, she's basically a member of the family now.

I can't say enough good things about the services that LAD offers or how much Lori's care means to us. She is the best.
