Caren was very helpful during my labor and delivery experience! We didn't hire her until I was 37 weeks, and she did a great job going with the flow when the midwife recommended an induction, and then when I spontaneously went into labor after my labs showed that the induction was unnecessary.
This was both mine and my partner's first baby and Caren's help was invaluable during labor and delivery! She coached me through labor on the phone before I realized I was in labor, and then helped support both myself and my partner at the hospital. If I could do everything all over again the only thing I would do differently is to hire her earlier in my pregnancy!
Most of us are lucky to find a job that we like enough to do for a while. Those who are truly lucky manage to work doing the job that they were borned to do; Caren was born to do her job. The experience my wife and I had with Caren was perfect, and there is no question that her contribution went a long way to out whole experience going smoothly. As a first time father, it was very reassuring having Carin by my side helping my wife while she labored and gave birth to our daughter. I am happy to recommend Caren to anyone that is seeking the services of a doula.
I had one of the most positive, empowering labor and deliveries that I could have imagined, and this is due in no small part to Caren. Caren met with my husband and I several times before the big day in order to get to know us and fully understand what we were hoping for in a birth experience - she's funny, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and affirming, and over the weeks that we got to know her, she made me feel strong and prepared for birth, from talking with me about nutrition and proper rest to discussing my options for pain management. The day of, Caren was an absolute gift. She made me feel safe and supported during the entire process, whether she was pushing on my back during contractions or urging me to hydrate to keep up my strength. She brought such an amazing, calm energy to the room and she intuited how to best support both my husband and I at different stages in labor. She was such a pillar of strength during the particularly difficult stages of labor as well, and she just kept reminding me that my body was made for this.
As this was my first baby, I was scared and unsure of some of the things that I dealed with leading up to and during the labor, and Caren was always available for me to text a quick question to: not only would she provide the answer, but she would always remind me that my body was doing exactly what it needed to be doing, and that it was strong enough to deliver a baby.
When I think about the day of my labor, both my husband and I agree that it was so wonderful because Caren helped us both feel safe, informed, and supported. She was a strong ally and advocate for our mental and physical well-being during a time that might otherwise have been terrifying for different reasons for my husband and I. And with Caren's support, I felt stronger than I ever imagined I could when I gave birth to our daughter.
Caren is a wonder - I cannot recommend her highly enough for your birth experience.
