I loved having Liz Boyce as my families doula when I delivered my second daughter. Not only was Liz upfront and clear about her rates and service, but she was clear in her intentions and how she was going to help me in labor. She was available to me for any questions during my pregnancy, and during my labor she was an absolute savior. The couple of times we met and talked, pre labor, I explained some of my fears and hopes. She opened a new perspective for me, which I believe tremendously helped me acheive my goal of a natural vbac. When Liz arrived at the hospital when I was in active labor, a great feeling of relief came over me, despite the pain I was in. I knew I had a friend with me, who was here to help me and somebody who knew exactly how to help me. Liz helped speed my labor up towards the end, because she kept insisting I change positions, even when it was the last thing I wanted to do. She gave me amazing hand massages when I felt like I couldnt take the pain of a contraction anymore, helping me hold out a little longer. When I was pushing, absolutely exhausted thinking I couldn't do it anymore, she brought ice cold wash cloths for my forehead. They helped me keep going a little longer. She was there every time I needed help, and I never had to say a word. i would recommend her to my closest friends and family.
I would highly recommend Liz as your doula. I interviewed several local doulas and agreed with my husband that Liz was the best choice. We hired her for an educational class to refresh us before our second birth and as our doula. She was happy, calm, and poised at our interview/meeting. She offered many resources and options to fit our pregnancy and birth needs.
Having had an emergency c-section at my first birth because of pre-eclampsia, I wanted a VBAC. I switched doctors, hospitals and hired Liz to increase my chances. My husband was hesitant to hire a doula. But after our successful VBAC, he looked at me and said, "Liz was worth every penny, I would have paid double or triple for her to be here."
During my pregnancy I had excess amniotic fluid. There was a lot of questions to be answered and reassurances to be made, to help keep me calm and happy. Liz offered everything I could possibly want in a doula. She helped me feel centered and let me know I could do it. She kept my nervous/scared husband busy with things he could do to help me, gave him time to rest and eat. She gave me invaluable advice as it was needed while in different phases of my birth. I don't know if I would have pushed so well after so many hours in labor with out her "blowing through a teeny tiny straw (without physically blowing out air)visualization". I truly feel if I didn't hire a doula, I might have been swayed by my doctors and nurses at the hospital to have a repeat c-section. Liz is an incredible doula. I feel truly blessed she helped me with my second birth.
