When considering what I wanted for my birth experience I knew I wanted a doula. Choosing Candace as my doula was such an easy decision! I've known Candace since college and was so excited when I found out she was a doula - I knew I had to have her as my doula. Candace goes above and beyond and provides the most excellent care! She made herself available to meet for coffee and talk even before my husband and I decided to hire her as our doula. She is incredibly knowledgeable and if she doesn't know the answer to your questions, she will hunt them down. Her demeanor is absolutely perfect for the profession of doula and she very much provided the calm in the middle of the storm when it came to actual labor. She also visits postpartum and even provided us with a meal in the first week after my daughter was born. I highly recommend her and With Wonder LLC if you are looking for a doula. I know I will definitely be hiring her for my next birth :).

I loved working with Candace leading up to and during my natural hospital birth. Candace and my husband were such a great support to me, listening to my hopes and concerns and believing that I could stay calm and relaxed during labor. I was a pretty typical first time mom—laboring started gradually on Tuesday evening picking up in the early hours of Wednesday morning, we headed to the hospital Wednesday afternoon and at 1:28 am on Thursday my son was born.

On Wednesday morning Candace came over and we went for a walk before laboring at home for a few hours. She put out these beautiful affirmation cards around our house, about how my body and baby were strong. One of my enduring memories of labor is standing at my bookshelves, crying as I read the affirmation about my strong and healthy baby, as Candace rubbed my back and told me I was doing well.

At the hospital Candace stayed with me through triage, helped to set out my Christmas lights in my laboring and delivery room, and helped me in and out of the birthing tub. By then it was Wednesday evening and I was in a long transition. The next four hours were a bit of blur. Nothing was distracting my contractions now! Lying down was really tough, and it felt like I was sort of wildly thrashing about. I remember opening my eyes and seeing Candace looking at me, and in a firm voice, calling me by name and telling me I could do this. It felt like a turning point in my labor, and I never felt like I was going to completely loose it.

During pushing Candace and my husband kept up their encouragement and gave me wet wash clothes, which a small grace, but really made a difference. I think that is the best thing about Candace, she is really attentive and when you need something, a word, a wash cloth, an advocate, a smile, she’s right there to give it.  My son and I got off to such a great start, thanks in large part to Candace!
