Sarah was an essential part of an amazing labor experience. My husband and I were so appreciative of her thoughtful, calm demeanor and her excellent care-taking skills. I'm convinced I had the birth (natural, comfortable) I wanted because of her presence!
Sarah is an exceptionally good listener--a crucial skill for a doula. During our pre-birth meetings, she took careful note of our hopes for our birth plan and offered extremely thoughtful feedback. These meetings were so helpful for me: they made me feel ready that I was prepared for the challenges of labor. Sarah is to thank for my and my husband's sense of confidence going into childbirth. I really appreciates how long she spent with us during these conversations and her frequent follow-ups by text and email.
The night I went into labor, Sarah provided excellent advice by phone until we were ready to have her come to our apartment. I felt so much better knowing she was part of our team. We took a cab together to the hospital, an arduous journey for me that Sarah helped make more manageable through constant encouragment.
I don't know what we would have done without her at the hospital. As my husband handled all the annoying paperwork of triage, Sarah provided me a very soothing back rub. We were admitted to the birth center, where Sarah offered me so much support both in the form of motivating feedback, massage, and ideas for pain-relieving positions. She made my husband feel more capable of helping me with pain; he was so happy to have her help.
This all to say that Sarah will always be close to our hearts as a key player in the joyful birth of our darling daughter.
Sarah Gold is fantastic. Her upbeat personality and unflagging stamina made giving birth much easier (not that it was at all easy). It was such a pleasure meeting her and establishing our birth plan. Sarah has an excellent bedside manner and asked very good, thought-provoking questions. My partner and I felt more confident with Sarah by our side. It may go without saying, but on the day of especially her input and help were invaluable. Definitely recommend her to all parents!
My birth experience would not have been complete without Sarah. When my husband and I first met Sarah, it became clear that she would be essential in helping us to experience the kind of birth that we both hoped for. Before the birth, she listened to our individual needs and priorities, and helped us apply them to the many options that a labor may necessitate. When I went into labor, Sarah was amazing; she truly became my partner in this birth process. She fed me, massaged me, moved with me, and gently pushed me forward when I was exhausted and felt like I could no longer keep going. She was not only my doula, but also my husband’s, supporting him so that he could better support me. She guided us during difficult decisions in the hospital and encouraged us when we so needed it, unyielding until our baby was here. After our dear Eloise was born, Sarah continued to work with us, and she continues to go above and beyond her contractual duties. Throughout all of our time together, she remained professional, resourceful, patient, and kind. The narrative of childbirth is all too often depicted as scary and painful. However, when I think back upon the day I gave birth, I know I will remember the beautiful and empowering experience it was and I will always remember how Sarah played such an important role in making it so.
I would recommend Sarah's doula work to anyone! From the moment I met her, she was like the selfless, quiet, comforting sister I never had. I immediately felt at ease with her and knew she was the right choice to add to our team. And it really did feel like my husband, Sarah, and I were a team -- just how you want to feel during this crazy emotional pregnancy/labor/postpartum process.
I will never forget Sarah feeding me applesauce from a squeeze pouch and forcing me to sip water in between contractions for hours on end. With my husband's hands literally full massaging my back, he never would have been able to focus on nurturing me in that way, and I truly believe Sarah's support in that aspect was crucial in maintaining the strength I needed to labor for 34 hours.
Sarah also helped us make difficult decisions during a labor that wasn't going smoothly with doctors and a nursing staff that didn't seem to be working with us. It was incredibly helpful to be able to bounce ideas off of her and get advice on how best to communicate with the medical staff. For those worried about how it will feel to have an "extra" person who's not family in the room while you labor, let me assure you that Sarah never felt out of place or intrusive. She was better than family in many ways because she was able to stay calm and confident throughout a tough day.
Not only was she amazing on "labor day," but it was also invaluable to have her emotional support afterwards, too. She was so helpful as I struggled to process a difficult labor that didn't go at all as planned, and being able to sit down with her and talk about my feelings on that front helped me go from crying about the delivery pretty much every day to working towards peace about what happened. Sarah has also stayed in touch via text afterwards, checking in to see how we're doing, despite the fact that her contractual duties are long over!
I can't recommend Sarah enough!
I had a beautiful natural birth experience and Sarah was key in making that happen! I have been so impressed with her pre-birth care, her during birth wisdom and her post-birth follow ups. She has a very calm and peaceful manner that contributes a lot to her ability to connect with me and provide the assurance and help I sought in a doula.
She made herself available with extreme flexibility and when the time came, it came fast for me. She didn't get a lot of notice but she was immediately there for me, as she has been before and after as well.
Her Pre- and Post-birth meetings were extremely helpful and demonstrated a wealth of knowledge. Dring the birth she was extremely supportive, calm and gave me a lot of courage.
It was an all-around pleasure to work with Sarah and I highly recommend her!
Sarah is an extremely attentive, caring doula. She was exactly the person I needed to help me get through my labour. She was calming, helped guide me to breathe through the contractions, encouraged me, supported me and helped me relax. Sarah came all prepared with great techniques for assisting in the labour process, was so easy going and always had a smile and kind word.
I loved having Sarah by my birth and would reccomend her to anyone wanting an amazing support during theirs!
