My husband and I were first introduced to Metropolitan Doulas when we attended their free postpartum prep session. That helped us connect and think deliberately about how to prepare for bringing baby home. We also utilized them for in-home newborn care and CPR classes. It was so easy and convenient to find a time for them to meet us and another couple during a very busy time.
Best of all, we were able to have Nikki as our postpartum doula. We weren’t sure whether we needed a day or night doula—or even how much time we might need. They helped us prep for a certain number of hours and then coordinate once we were in the thick of things. Nikki then helped us find our way out of the fog. The support we received touched on everything for prepping meals to emotional and lactation support. We learned about ways to care for our babe and felt like better parents because of it. I even needed a postpartum doula to come over and help me organize and build nursery furniture. Metropolitan Doulas was so responsive and wonderful to work with. I couldn’t recommend them more!
I used Metropolitan Doulas for two weeks after my c-section and had an amazing experience. After my first child, I realized my husband and family who came to town were not natural caretakers. For my second child, I was determined to have adequate support so that I could heal and focus on bonding. That's exactly what my postpartum doula, Stephanie, enabled me to do. I didn't have to worry about cleaning the house, getting up to change the baby, feeding myself, and even little child care projects (e.g. swapping out my toddler's seasonal clothes). I was able to rest only because I had full confidence in Stephanie's ability to care for everything in my stead. I am now recommending a professional postpartum doula to all of my expecting friends or those who are going through a tough season of colic or sleep regression. Stephanie was worth her weight in gold and helped me both keep my sanity and recover so much faster than if I had tried to muscle through it on my own. Don't forget, it takes a village, ladies!
I cannot say enough good things about the support I received from my postpartum night doulas, Afi and Jael. They helped me transition to my new role as a mom of twins and gave my husband and I the gift that keeps on giving: sleep! It’s really hard to care for one, let alone two newborns while recovering from birth and going through a profound identity shift. We had tremendous peace of mind knowing our twins were lovingly and expertly cared for by Afi and Jael while we got to rest. We are better able to navigate the challenges of caring for our twins thanks to Metropolitan Doulas. I would not hesitate to recommend their services!
Thank goodness for Metropolitan Doulas! When I got pregnant last May after years of trying, a few friends recommended hiring a post-partum doula to help. We interviewed a few doula services and decided upon Met Doulas (used both night and day doula services) and what a great decision it was for my family. We had Maria come to our house the first night home from the hospital in early Jan and it was such a relief to have her warm support and spirit to guide us. From helping figure out which valve went with which flange to baby wearing to baths - Maria was there for us! We also loved Nikki and still use Michelle for babysitting occasionally. Everyone we met was professional, warm, and knowledgeable and helped us get confident with our first baby. Do yourself a favor - call them!
I can’t thank you enough for all your great education, counseling and guidance during the past couple of months during my “fourth trimester”.
Because of you, I had a very successful transition to work (and a new job) this week. My baby has also had a successful start to daycare. He seems to like it there and all his daily report cards have been favorable. I am truly grateful.
I am so glad my birth doula recommended that I consult with you. You’ve been a lifesaver! Thank you, Nikki!
Metropolitan Doulas were amazing to work with and schedule. i ended up using their night services after the birth of my second child. I had worked with Nikki during the day after the birth of my first baby and I knew that I would use their services again. I talked to the two doulas before the birth who would be primarily helping me at night to see if we would be compatible. They immediately put me in ease about having a stranger stay at my house with my newborn. Along with watching our baby, they helped out with the laundry and washing all the pump parts and bottles throughout the night.
They were so amazing, that when I ended up back in the hospital due to complications, my mom reached out to to the company to get more help and they managed to organize help for her immediately. I can not recommend their services enough!
I'm a single mother who welcomed a daughter a few months ago, and I can't express how great it's been to have Maria with us as a postpartum doula! Maria did everything from holding my daughter so I could shower or nap to helping me stay on top of laundry and making sure I remembered to eat. Even better, she was a wealth of information on infant care (she helped me give my little one her first bath), breastfeeding (helping me try out pumping and first bottle feeding), and baby logistics (making it through the grocery store with the baby for the first time). Perhaps most crucial, Maria was friendly and helpful - always a calming presence who I looked forward to seeing every time. I would absolutely go back to Metropolitan Doulas if I have a second child - and recommend them to all my friends looking for extra help after the arrival of a baby, especially for new moms.
I cannot say enough good things about Metropolitan Doulas. Nikki was always prompt, kind, and helpful in scheduling whatever we needed. Our little guy arrived 10 weeks early, so we needed help sooner (and for longer) than we expected. We felt completely taken care of through both daytime and nighttime sessions, and every doula we met had wonderful calm energy and was terrific with our newborn. I would recommend Metropolitan Doulas to every parent with a newborn...they definitely improved our quality of life in these exciting but challenging early months.
Metropolitan Doulas offers amazing services to help new parents transition to life with baby. We used both night doulas and day time doula help for the first three months after having a baby girl. I must say that this help was necessary and really made our lives so much easier. The night doula helped teach us about breastfeeding, swaddling, and all things newborn and provided needed sleep and reassurance that our baby was taken care of while we were sleeping!
I also cannot say enough about Betsy and the daytime doula help. It was so helpful to have someone come in and do all manner of things to help. Betsy was expert at teaching us how to care for our baby, and for ourselves! It was instrumental in helping our house stay clean and calm so we could focus our attention on our new baby and on keeping ourselves sane. Betsy provided advice, feedback, was a sounding board, and provided needed day to day help with chores and reminding us that we needed self care as new parents as well.
I cannot recommend Metropolitan Doulas enough!
At the end of our pregnancy we decided to look for a postpartum doula to help us with the first few weeks. We decided for Metropolitan Doulas because Nikki (who runs MD) was very flexible with both the price and the time we wanted a doula. Nikki introduced us to Jennifer, and she was a great fit for all of our baby needs and questions. Jennifer supported us with prepping our meals when we were too tired. We had time to take a break and have a nap while Jennifer took care of our daughter, and Jennifer was always available via phone, answering our questions and providing guidance even late at night. Jennifer is especially knowledgeable about breastfeeding, calming babies, baby massages and swaddling. Metropolitan Doulas surpassed our expectations, and we were quite happy with the company as well as our individual doula.
We love Giny! Her warmth, positivity and expertise has made all the difference for our family. Unfortunately, my own mother died while I was pregnant with little L and Giny truly helped fill that void for me. She helped me learn how to mother. I love her energy and flexibility. She's come to last minute appointments with me and accommodated us at every turn. I truly feel that she cares for Loula as if she were her own. It also gave us extra piece of mind knowing that she has hospital experience and nursing training.
The best thing I never knew I needed!
Excerpt from "The Baby Whisperer" by Tracy Hogg:
"All new parents need a supportive figure....Most simply aren't prepared for the adjustment period, where there seem to be a million and one questions and no one around to answer them."
Metropolitan Doulas was recommended to me by my midwife, and the doulas who came to us starting from Day 1 (we had a homebirth) were a tremendous help. I often told people that I would have been a train wreck in the first two weeks were it not for Nikki. Just knowing that I had an incredible resource a text message away (even in the middle of the night, when I wasn't sure if I was swaddling correctly!) was SUCH a relief; I had almost no new parent-anxiety. The first two weeks were particularly challenging as my son and I were struggling with breastfeeding - I really wanted to stick through it, and Nikki helped us so much. Now my son and I have an excellent breastfeeding relationship.
The one thing I would tell new moms is to "let go". I'm the kind of Type A, super organized, super prepared person who tends think that I can do things better myself. It was hard at first for me to sit back and hold/nurse my baby and let someone else change his diaper, do the dishes and the laundry, etc. But once I let go of my perfectionism and put my trust in Nikki, everything ran very smoothly.
I'm so glad I hired Metropolitan Doulas and highly recommend them. At first I was a bit reluctant about hiring a postpartum doula, as I considered myself a confident and capable new mom and didn't think I'd need any extra help. But when I fell ill right before my husband was due back at work, my doctor strongly suggested I get some help and referred me to Metropolitan Doulas specifically.
I interviewed a few other services but Nikki at Metropolitan Doulas was by far the most responsive and organized, and I immediately clicked with her recommended doula, Whitney. To be honest, I thought it might be weird having someone I'd never met come care for me and my daughter in my home, but Whitney was so polite and easy going I instantly felt at ease.
Whitney came twice a week while I recovered, then once a week for several weeks after I realized how much I had come to enjoy and rely on her visits. It was like having a family member lend a helping hand, completely casual and natural. Whatever needed doing around the house got done with no muss or fuss (laundry, dishes, making lunch, even wrapping holiday presents), and she was so good with my daughter it made it easy for me to step away and catch up on rest or whatever else I wanted to do.
Beyond the day-to-day help, I also came to appreciate all the knowledge and resources Whitney had up her sleeve. She was never intrusive but seemed to know just the right time to suggest an idea she thought might help us, and was always ready with a thoughtful response to any question I might have. She helped us create a flexible family schedule based on my daughter's habits, referred me to local classes and groups, shared her favorite household and parenting apps, and much more.
I'm so glad I had Whitney to help my daughter and I get into a good routine, and would recommend the Metropolitan Doulas to anyone looking for postpartum care.
Our family had an excellent experience with Metropolitain Doulas! Care providers were very flexible, knowledgable, and professional. Highly recommended!
I've worked with two of the doulas from Metropolitan Doulas - Nikki and Jen - since the birth of my second child four months ago and they were both amazing. Nikki has been our primary doula and she has fit in seamlessly with our family while providing outstanding service. Nikki is always finding helpful things to do around the house on her own initiative (restocking the nursery, preparing healthy meals, etc.), she provides excellent advice when asked, and she demonstrates amazingly good judgment and kindness in her dealings with both my toddler and infant - and myself! Additionally, she coached me through a particularly difficult period when my newborn was not able to latch properly and we both suffered from thrush - offering different latch positions and techniques, researching additional guides, and even applying and obtaining my free pump from my insurance for me. When Nikki left for vacation - which she had scheduled months before - she and Jen coordinated smoothly so that Jen was fully informed about our regular schedule and fit in gracefully. Jen is likewise a very warm and friendly personality and was excellent at finding ways to make herself useful and asking if there was anything else she could do to help.
I have been extremely impressed in all my interactions with Metropolitan Doulas and recommend them whole-heartedly.
