Relevant volunteer or advocacy work

I have served women during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period for over 20 years. I am a member of Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA), Virginia Midwives Alliance, and Doulas of North America (DONA). I have worked both for pay and for free dependent upon client situations. I believe that all women who want a doula should have one, no matter the way they choose to give birth. If you are interested in me attending your birth but my fee is outside of your budget, please do not hesitate to discuss this with me. If I cannot serve you for any reason, I will help you find someone who can.

Amy attended the births of both my children in a student midwife role. For my most recent birth I participated in continuity of care with Amy, so she was at the majority of my prenatal appointments, the birth, and all the postpartum appointments. She also encapulated my placenta from each birth. Working with Amy has been a wonderful experience. She is deeply passionate about birth work, and has a vast reservoir of knowledge and experience from which she draws. I've contacted Amy many times over text and phone calls with questions or concerns, and she has always been very quick to respond, offered great suggestions, and put any fears or worries I may have at ease. She is warm, easy to talk with, listens, and you can tell she really cares. Amy is also very intuitive; at both my births she held space for me when I needed it, and stepped in to offer suggestions and encouragement at just the right times. She was especially instrumental in helping move labor along during my first birth when I was getting worn out and fearful. Her suggestions and encouragement helped me relax and calm down, and my baby was born shortly after! I count myself lucky that I've had the chance to work with her, and I highly recommend hiring her as a doula. You'll be in very good hands.

I am overjoyed to have the opportunity to recommend Amy Keillor to you. I met Amy years ago and became instant friends with her largely because of her outgoing personality and dedication to serving as a doula. When I became pregnant, she spent hours sharing information with me and coaching me for the big day. When I gave birth to twins, she was available to me at any time of day to help with getting my boys to latch. While I was not able to continue nursing them, she was so helpful in providing me with support and encouragement in that tumultuous time.

When I became pregnant again with my third son, Amy was instrumental in my having a successful year of nursing! She spent countless hours coaching me once she knew my desire to have a VBAC, and she encouraged me immensely when that turned out to be impossible. She is caring and attentive, especially in difficult situations where I as the expectant mom was going through many emotional ups and downs as the result of my birth experience not going according to my plan. When I began to experience postpartum depression, Amy stayed by my side at the hospital and kept handing me my newborn son to hold in order to help me feel better. In addition to the PPD, I had difficulty right away with nursing my son. In the womb, he sucked on his bottom lip, so when he was born he continued to draw in his bottom lip, preventing a good latch. Amy taught me to use syringe feeding, using my pinky to train him to keep his lip out. After a couple of weeks, he had it! I credit that successful year of nursing to Amy’s patience and willingness to serve me without tiring and without compensation. She truly loves to be involved in the birth and nursing experiences, and she is great at it!
Amy has a natural talent for caring, service, and patience when assisting expectant and new moms with all of the fears, concerns, hopes, and realities of this life-changing experience.
