I was referred to Ellen from a client of mine. My husband and I met with her and I knew right away that she was the right doula for us. Ellen is very down to earth but will also be the strong back bone advocate for you when you are at the hospital having your baby. She was able to explain anything I had questions about. She gives you the one on one sessions in the comfort of your own home. We discussed more than just preparing for labor. We talked nutrition, helpnformulating a birthing plan, talking vaccine option so we could make an educated decision. She was a tremendous help during labor coaching me through my contractions. We were very happy with our decision in choosing Ellen and making her apart of our birth story.
Ellen was absolutely wonderful! We hired her to assist with delivery of our first child. My labor had to be induced and ended up being very long, painful, and tiring. I ended up needing an epidural (which was not originally part of the plan) but was able to hold out to 8cm, largely due to Ellen's assistance. I would've needed it a lot sooner without her. She is super-knowledgable and very supportive. I would definitely recommend her.
Where to begin! After interviewing multiple doulas, hoping to find the best addition to my birth team, for the birth of my first baby I found Ellen. After working together through birth classes and countless meetings in our home talking about birth and working through my fears etc. the day arrived for us to meet baby!
There isnt one thing I would have changed about my birth and having Ellen be apart of it was a huge reason it went the way it did. I labored at home with my husband, just like we had practiced and discussed with Ellen. If I would have needed her...she would have come over no questions asked. I kept her in the loop and when we were ready to head to the birth center, she headed out to meet us. From the start of labor, through the more manageable contractions, she helped ensure I was drinking enough water, and eating enough food. She helped my husband with certain positions and assisted with pressure on my back all while I progressed she was with us the entire time. When it finally came time to meet baby, Ellen held my hand through it all. I was so lucky to have her be apart of my experience and again, wouldnt change a thing. She reminded me throughout my entire pregnancy how empowered I would feel having the birth I imagined, and she was right. I would recommend her to EVERYONE to be apart of your birth experience.
It was our first pregnancy and my wife’s vision for birth was having a doula and going through a birthing center. We learned about Ellen when we picked up her card (amongst other doulas cards) from a local baby store. After doing some research, Ellen, was one of three doulas we met with.
We loved all the doulas, honestly. There’s a very amazing birth community in Kitsap, lots of love and support... so it was hard to choose which doula to go with. They were all friendly and laid-back, all equally as open and supportive.
We ended up going with Ellen because she focused a lot on health and healing through food.. also on living all-natural, “clean” lifestyle... which are all very important to my wife and I. She’s very knowledgeable!
Upon first meeting Ellen, she was very warm and friendly, very funny. We felt comfortable with her. She proved to be very supportive during the whole pregnancy, always quickly replying to any questions we’d have. Her newborn classes were very informative and we loved that she came to us.
When the big day came, Ellen was a champ helping my wife and I through our difficult, 24+hour labor. She offered advice when needed, emotional and physical support. She was our voice of reason, always advocating for us. We are very happy we recruited her for our birth team! ???? Much love and respect! Highly recommended!
I had interviewed a couple doulas before finding Ellen and am so glad I had kept looking. I knew right when we connected she and I would be a great fit together and it has been amazing working with her. My husband and I decided to not only have her as our birth doula, but also to do some childbirth education classes with us. She always came open to all of our questions, gave us great educational resources and advice on everything from nutrition, to labor, and breastfeeding.
She is attentive and quick to get back to us with any concerns and also a great resource to have to share anything with...birth related or not! Her services as a doula have turned into a friendship that my husband and I hope to keep long after the birth of our baby. I would recommend her services to anyone whether you are expecting or already have had your baby and need someone post birth. I could go on and on about how wonderful she is and how much she means to us. Thank you Ellen! You are the best!
Ellen is such a wonderful doula! She was always available for me to text during the weeks leading up to my birth. I was 12 days overdue, and she was such an encouragement to me during those long days!
She was also a trooper as my labor came on very quick! I found out later she had already gotten in to bed when we called her! She met us at the Birthing Inn so fast! Though my labor was quick, she was present and ready to push on my back if I needed, and she also helped me control my moaning to be productive. Then, she helped us as we started breastfeeding for the first time.
Ellen also came over to our house just over 12 hours after our baby was born and she brought us coffee! She also helped us some more with breastfeeding that morning. It was SO helpful!
I know she is just a text away even now. We love Ellen and are so thankful she was a part of our birth story!
I first began working with Ellen when my son was less than a week old. He came earlier than expected, so my husband and I were not fully prepared or ready (although who ever is?!). We are a military family, so our immediate families are not close by. She swooped in like a real life Mary Poppins, quick wit and all, to which we are overly thankful. Ellen came a few times durging those crazy newborn weeks to help my husband and I work through the various conundrums we were facing with our little guy. Neither of us had ever really been around babies, so we were true parent rookies! She was a wealth of knowledge on those particular newborn issues like breastfeeding positions, burping tricks, soothing techniques, how to use our baby wrap (actually how to use most everything we got at the baby shower that we hadn't even opened), help with setting up our bedroom to best accommodate ourselves and our little one for all those nighttime feedings, and last but not least- she provided us with a much needed break to shower, eat, or nap. She is calming, knowledgeable, personable, practical, and very understanding of all the seemingly silly new mommy worries.
Speaking of, Ellen also helped me sort through my baby blues with sincere guidance and information of what my body was going through postpartum. I had left the hospital with this new baby, which I was so overwhelmed with the idea of trying to keep happy and healthy that I didn't even think of my own post birth physical and menthal health. It was comforting to know that she not only was there to help with the baby, but my husband and I's well being also.
I continue to have Ellen come to the house about once a week to help with our not-so-little-anymore guy, and I continue to ask her millions of questions about his development, stages, setbacks, and how on earth I can get more sleep! Ellen is a gem. I highly recommend her services to new moms, their babies, and partners.
Ellen was a fantstic edition to our new family. We had a set of twin boys and it may have to near impossible for us but Ellen came to the rescue. She not only worked herself. she also found an additional doula to parter with to make 6 nights a week possible. She was get to make sure that we had consistancy and made we were always happy. She was great with our boys and gave us a lot of tips throughout the process. Sad to see her go but highly recommend her to any family looking!!
Ellen was our rock. She guided me during the labor with different techniques that helped my wife. She did massaging and used essential oils. Whenever I was tired, she stepped in. I couldn’t have done it without her. She was always looking out for our well being. She made sure that I was able to take a quick power nap to recharge and would be fully alert during the pushing process. She made sure I ate and was comfortable. The essential oils were really good, it was not only helpful for my wife, but for me as well. Throughout the whole time we were really calm. With her there my wife and I never fought. She was able to capture precious moments including the crowning of our son.
When I met Ellen, I instantly knew that she was meant to be our doula, but I could not have imagined how profoundly she would change our lives. She was the ideal birthing companion. Her combination of expertise, essential oils and calming nature made our birth “easy." Our birthing journey lasted 26 hours, 19 were in the hospital. My husband and I didn't sleep the night before so we were both up for at least 2 days. We were able to implement the homework that Ellen assigned during pregnancy (exercises, birthing positions, and mantras) which helped tremendously during this time.
21 hours into labor I was ready to give up. We’ve tried all the birthing positions, different techniques and with Pitocin in my body for a few hours the pain was getting unbearable. I was hungry, I hadn't had a meal in 24 hours. I was tired. My strength was waning. Ellen calmly looked into my eyes and said, "Danny's going to come out either way, even if you get an epidural, you're going to have to do the work. Remember, you're giving baby Danny the greatest gift by doing this natural." Something inside of me changed and I was ready to move forward. A few hours later, we tried to push. I didn't understand how to "push" and Ellen explained it. Four contractions later, I heard my baby cry for the first time. It was unbelievable. It felt amazing.
My midwife gave me a birthing necklace that has the ancient Hawaiian symbol for birth, which she has always given to her midwife students and never to a mother. It was a real honor. She also said having a doula was the best investment we could have made and I strongly agree with her. She was stunned at how well I pushed the baby out (in 30 minutes) and WITHOUT an epidural but that can be attributed to Ellen's guidance.
If you want to feel empowered and proud of your birthing experience, hire Ellen. You won’t be sorry.
We met Ellen a month after our twins were born and she has been helping me hold it together ever since! (Twins are now five months old).
Having a two year old and all of our family on the mainland things can feel a bit overwhelming, but Ellen steps right in and in just a couple hours at our house she can make me feel better! She has a knack for knowing what needs to be done and getting right to it. From advice on baby care, hands on baby care, toddler care and tidying our house and scattered belongings, she allows me to keep my head above water in this crazy and wonderful time in our lives. We are so grateful to have Ellen!
