Relevant volunteer or advocacy work

In 2013, I completed my graduate degree at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. My research focused on the Anthropology of Birth in Alaska and allowed me to work with numerous mothers and midwives in the Fairbanks area. My first child was born in Fairbanks in the middle of that whole process. In 2015, I attended the DONA training course here in Juneau. Later that year I gave birth to my second child. In addition to serving as a doula, I also work at AWARE as the Communications Coordinator. AWARE is a local non-profit serving people who have experienced domestic violence and sexual assault. In 2019, I completed AWARE's 40-hour advocacy training.

My husband and I had an excellent experience with Danielle as our doula.  We sought her services during my second pregnancy, after our first baby was unexplicably stillborn at 33 weeks.  Danielle was great talking through what happened with our first baby, and helping us distinguish between the two pregnancies and focus on planning for our daughter's upcoming birth.  We were also comfortable with Courtney, and confident knowing that working together they would support us throughout labor and delivery regardless of timeframe.

We chose with our doctor to induce labor at 39 weeks.  With the support of my husband, Danielle, and the fabulous staff at Bartlett Beginnings, I was able to give birth to our healthy daughter vaginally, and without the use of pitocin or an epidural.  During labor I was able to listen to and focus on my body, knowing Danielle was there to support me and take care of my husband.

After our daughter arrived, Danielle visited us both in the hospital and also after we returned home.  She brought us delicious homemade blueberry muffins and helped me try different things to reduce the pain I was in while breastfeeding (I was eventually able to breastfeed without pain).

We absolutely recommend Danielle and Courtney, and would use them again ourselves.

Danielle and her doula partner Courtney were fantastic and my husband and I were so thankful to the both of them during the birth of our first child! They provided lots of information and support before, during and after the birth which was incredible. They brought a lot of support for myself but also my husband during the birth. The birth plan we developed with them was really helpful and the hospital was grateful it was so straightforward and comprehensive. Because of this, it was honored and followed by everyone who worked with us. Having Danielle and Courney be part of our birth team was significant and I would highly recommend them to anyone considering having a doula!

She was awesome. I could not ask for a better match. Our birth experience was better because of her. She made everything better. From helping us relax. She knew what to do every step of the way. If only every birth had someone like Danielle.

Danielle was probably the best match for a doula that I could have had for the birth of my daughter  She is very knowledgeable, kind hearted, and a great addition to any birth team. She listens to what you are saying, whether it’s about your perfect birth plan or fears/issues you may be having surrounding that plan. She brings expierence to the table, and can definitely be counted on. she is very open with her communication with you, and is willing to work with you on any troubles you may be having. I couldn’t have asked for anyone better, and will definitely be seeking her services for my next pregnancy. If you choose Danielle, you will be in good hands.

Danielle was our doula for the birth of our daughter on August 10th.  I can’t speak of her highlly enough.  She was incredibly compassionate, caring, and offered helpful advice all along the way.  She has the personal experience of having gone through pregnancy, labor, and delivery as well as the postpartum period and is generous with sharing her wisdom.  She was a willing and strong advocate for us when we needed to be induced due to preeclampsia and helped us communicate our wishes and concerns with the medical staff. Her support during the postpartum period was priceless!  Having her, and having a doula overall, was one of the best decisions we made and I can’t believe we were on the fence about it at one point.  My advice:  get a doula and choose Danielle!!

Danielle was our doula for the birth of our daughter in 2015. Danielle was wonderful to work with and we couldn't imagine our birth experience without her. We met her prior to the birth and got to know her before the big day. She was informative and warm. We immediately felt comfortable with her and were excited to have be apart the delivery. During the birth she was very inventive to my needs and also my husbands. She was motivating when my labor was slowing and was the much needed voice of reason when I didn't want to walk or lost my rythm.  She had many suggestions to help the process and was a calming spirit during our unexpected transfer to the hospital. While in the hospital Danielle helped to express my desires to the staff and I trusted her input on what was necessary versus unnecessary interventions. Danielle made our birth a positive experience and we were so thankful for her. Thank you Danielle!!!!

Danielle was amazing and I would recommend her to anyone. We were hesitant about the idea of a doula because we were nervous about a doula directing a very intimant experience, but we were relieved that having Danielle did not in any way influence the direction of the experience (she was able to be hands off when appropriate, but was silently there whenever she was needed). She was easy-going, smart, prepared, flexible, knowledgeable, and down-to-earth during the entire process of working with her.

For me (the mom), she was the most helpful during the first meeting. She asked questions that my husband and I had not thought to ask ourselves, which helped my husband and I bond and get ready to be a good team. For my husband, he was relieved to have someone at the birth to help take care of details so that he could take care of me.

I am so glad she was there.
