This doula was the difference in my second home birth that made me get through it. I felt supported by her and so did my child's father and my mom who attended the birth.

Her knowledge, demeanor and skill made all the difference.

Some midwives make you feel like you don't need additional support during your home birth, but I think it is essential. I have found in two home births that most midwives feel their job is to make sure everything is going smoothly with the clinical side of it and don't offer much in the way of comfort, support, encouragement.

You need a doula like Deb to provide that.

I couldn't recommend her enough.

Deb was both our Bradley Birth instructor as well as my fouls during a birth at Dublin Methodist hospital.  I was past my due date by as much as almost 2 or 3 weeks depending on which measurements were used, I was induced with pitocin and apart from that was able to have a vaginal birth without epidural.  Our labor was fast and fierce (thanks pitocin) but deb was able to keep up with the quick pace.  Our doctor was not present for birth and our nurse was preoccupied with monitors and who knows what else when I hit transition.  despite my most my being silent up to a certain point was able to recognize what was happening to us in labor and told my husband to GET THE NURSE NOW SHES PUSHING.  our nurse barely made it back in time, the doctor never did.

deliveries can be quick and rushed with typical protocol, Deb knew my birth plan and made sure that because we had no medical emergencies or needs that the cord clamping was delayed, helped support a perfect first latch and overall was great through our entire pregnancy.  Her post partum care was also fantastic.  I truly believe that the care of our mothers should be continuous after birth, she helped with that unlike any other experiences we've had in prior births.
