Kelly is absolutely amazing! We hired her for the birth of my daughter. She's our first, and I was nervous about giving birth in a hospital so I really wanted to have a doula with me to support me through it. We knew as soon as we met her that we wanted to work with her because of her professionalism and qualifications, but also her personality that made us feel comfortable right away. She came to the house for both of our meetings before the birth and chatted with me when I had questions along the way. She made me feel confident in my choices and intuitions and that meant a lot to me and was very empowering. Our original plan was to meet at home and labor here until it was time to go to the hospital, but my baby girl was in a hurry and I was surprisingly very calm about the whole thing and didn't really realize how fast things were moving, so we ended up rushing to the hospital and calling her from there. She rolled with the change in plans and got there as soon as possible and came in and got right to it setting up the room and coaching us through the contractions. I swear the hip presses she had my husband doing must have helped my labor progress so quickly. She brought such a calming presence to the room and made my mom and husband feel at ease too. I was able to relax and focus on my labor because I knew that she knew what I wanted and had my back and I didn't have to worry about what was going on around me. It was like having your coolest best friend there to support you through your labor and delivery. The birth of our daughter was the best day of our lives and we are so grateful to Kelly for being part of that experience. We love her and if we are ever expecting another addition to the family we will be calling her right away!
Kelly is by far one of the most down to earth and straightforward people I have ever met. When I began my search for a doula I was overwhelmed by all the different "types" of doula. There was anything from the modern doula all the way to the opposite end of the spectrum of the hippiest hippie doula that wanted to cleanse your aura. Now I don't find anything wrong with either of those kinds of people. I just didn't know what would work best for me when I was in labor.
I started my search on Facebook asking recommendations and hoping someone like myself would reach out and say "this is what worked for me" I got several recommendations and was pointed in all kinds of different directions. But the only consistent reference I got was for Kelly. Super crunchy moms, modern moms, hipster moms and all in between came forward and told me how great Kelly was.
The most important fact I got from someone was this. "She will support you. No matter what. If you want to stand on your head and recite chants she will support you. Whether she agrees with you or not she will support you. And most important of all, she will tell you exactly what she things about supporting you".
THAT was the honestly that I needed. I was navigating through the natural birthing world by myself. I needed someone that would say "I understand where you're coming from and why that would be your opinion, but it's F*?$% scary."
I was so sick of everyone telling me how rough it was or how easy it was with no evidence to back it up. My first meeting with Kelly she talked about her FOUR births. The first words out of her mouth weren't how beautiful the birth was (she did say that about one!). She said "It hurt like hell and I begged someone to give me something. If you can tough it out through that you'll be fine"
I adore Kelly and I'd recommend her in a heart beat. Hire her. Now. :)
We hired Kelly to assist in our 2nd home birth. I cannot say enough positive things about our experience with her! Throughout my pregnancy she consistently answered questions I had via text promptly and gave advice with resources to backup her answers. She was a huge mental support for me, especially in the last weeks (I was 12 days past my due date)
During our labor and delivery, Kelly proved to be a HUGE asset. She used different techniques to help ease both mild and extremely painful contractions. My husband was primarily my coach, and Kelly knew exactly when to step in or to let us have our time together. Our baby was 10 lbs, so an all natural birth was quite intense! I was in a different world during my transition, but Kelly always remained soothing, calm, and professional. She offered encouraging words, and kept me focused on breathing and relaxing my body. She was a wonderful assistant to our 2 midwives as well during the delivery.
We also had Kelly encapsulate our placenta, ordered me belly-binding material in my favorite color, and had her do a postpartum visit. I had a reduction years ago and am not able to produce enough milk to feed my baby solely. Kelly helped me research donor milk, and gave me great suggestions on how to increase my supply, as well as an understanding shoulder to cry on during the tough postpartum times.
I would recommend Kelly in a heartbeat to anyone who is expecting. We are so thankful we were able to share our birth experience with her!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have about Kelly's services that we utilized.
I can't say enough good things about my experience with Kelly. If you're looking for someone who is warm, kind and caring, and who will be there for you if and when you need them, Kelly is your person. Whether you're a first time mom or not, birth is filled with so many unknowns, and it seems like Kelly has a way of rolling with it and having an answer when you need one most. If you're on the fence, book her. She's AMAZING!!!!!!
Before I met Kelly I wasn't sure exactly what a doula could do for me, but I knew that I wanted support having a natural birth. While my husband would be loving and supportive in his own way, I knew we could both use someone more experienced. My grand plan was derailed when the baby was breech at the end of my pregnancy. I tried several things to get the baby to flip on her own and Kelly was great about offering advice, resources, and ideas. She was also really understanding when I decided to throw in the towel and schedule a c-section and helped me to be okay with my decision, which was drastically different from what I had envisioned. I cannot convey strongly enough how wonderful it was to have Kelly there the day of my c-section. Kelly came prepared with a bag bigger than mine packed with all of the things I would never think to bring. Extra cell phone chargers, chap stick, anti-nausea bracelets. I didn't even have to ask for a thing. She anticipated my needs. Even when I'd say "I'm fine," she'd somehow read my mind and whip out whatever it was that could help me in that exact moment. She brought a camera and captured really special moments for us. Kelly was warm, supportive, and friendly and made our birth experience better than I could have imagined. Having her in the operating room and knowing I felt taken care of with her, my husband was able to be with our baby from the moment she was born. The smile and joy on his face as he rushed back and forth between me and our baby, reporting every happy detail was a priceless gift. I was really sick coming out of surgery and she was just so wonderful. You know the comfortable and familiar feeling of being taken care of by your mom when you don't feel well? That is how Kelly made me feel. I was able to just RELAX. Personally, I would never go through another delivery without a doula and for anyone considering one, I would wholeheartedly recommend Kelly.
