We had our baby girl in August 2016 and can’t say enough about Shawna Dolynny’s contribution. We are fully aware of just how much more stressful and trying the birth could have been without her guidance, help and friendship.

Our pregnancy had been ideal and we hadn’t really thought about getting a Doula. As the due date approached, Lizzie started feeling a bit nervous and figured a doula could help us recall the pre-natal class details on the big day. After settling on Shawna (only a few weeks before our due date), she came by for a number of pre-consultation sessions. She gave us tips to help prepare and made herself available at all hours if we had questions.

While we had an almost flawless pregnancy, the birth was anything but. Like many, we had wanted a natural birth. However, during the labour/delivery, we needed almost every intervention the hospital offered: morphine, laughing gas, had the waters artificially ruptured, an epidural, all culminating in an emergency C-section.

When it was over, Lizzie had been in labour for 28 hours, had been having minute-long contractions (or more) less than 5 minutes apart for 16.5 hours. Shawna was with us for about 20 of those hours and it would have been very difficult without her. She was able to team up with me to support Lizzie, intuitively getting us food/water, boiled water for the hot water bottle, and helped Lizzie to the shower.

Once back home, Shawna made house calls, bringing a meal and present for Eliya. She answered questions, offered breastfeeding techniques and more. She remains a friend and welcome in our home any time.

Shawna is knowledgeable, relaxed, educated, professional, caring, and proactive when actions need to be taken. Helping people navigate childbirth is her passion. I’ve seen it in action. We are planning to have another child in the future and will definitely look to Shawna again.

Shawna was super approachable from the first time I met her. Didn't matter what hour of the day it was I knew I could call on her and she would be there for me whenever I needed her.  Whatever questions or concerns that I had she could provide advice or suggestions to me. She was pretty open and accommodating to what I needed her to be at any givin time that I needed her through my pregnancy, labour and delivery journey. Even now in my postpartum stage still asking her stuff and is promt to reply and check up on my little one. It deffently has made this experience more enjoyable and comforting with all of her support.

This was my 1st pregnancy and I had alot of questions and concerns. Shawna came highly recommended and I knew a doula would enhance my birthing experience .Shawna is not only extremely knowledgeable about the birthing process, but also answered countless questions I had about pregnancy, labour, babies, breastfeeding and more. She was very supportive and helped guide my partner and I through the entire labour. She listened to all my needs, remained Calm and kept me focused, and even had me laughing! Shawna really took the time to listen and learn exactly how I wished the big day would go. It was amazing to have her expertise, guidance and positive, calming presence.  I am so grateful that Shawna captured pictures right after the birth, I will cherish them forever.  Shawna has a true passion for supporting new familes and I highly recommend her as an asset to the most memorable day of your life!

Choosing Shawna to support my husband and me during the birth of our 2nd daughter was one of the best decisions my husband and I made. I felt that Shawna was a good match for us because she came into our home the first time we met and she felt like someone I wanted to be best friends with. She is honest, compassionate and 100% genuine.

Shawna arrived at our home at 10pm when i was sure I was in labour after days of things happening. Contractions were regular but not progressing. All of the suggestions Shawna gave us for trying to get labor to progress worked but our baby's head was not directly on top of my cervix. We walked on and off all night and early morning. She left our side only to get us breakfast and follow us to the hospital.

Shawna provided me with encouragement when I was felt so defeated.  And had me in several different labouring positions that I found very helpful. I ended up having an epidural after much anxiety and Shawna continued to provide the emotional support we needed.

She kept me (and my husband) hydrate and fed during our 24 hours of labor. She packs Jolly Ranchers which were amazing and made my husband's breath smell better.

Shawna also worked very well with my midwife which made me feel that I had a great team caring for me, my baby and husband.

I would definately recommend her to anyone having a baby.

My husband and I had Shawna as our doula for our first child and loved the care and attention she gave us, before, during and after the birth. We were undecided about whether or not to work with a doula and so found her at rather the last minute. We were able to quickly build a bond and connection and felt comfortable having her as our support system during childbirth. When the day came, Shawna came to our house while I laboured and helped us prepare for the hospital and help us decide when to head to the hospital. It was such a new and foreign experience to us and it was nice to have her there to build our confidence and trust in the whole birth process. Once at the hospital Shawna stayed by our side, even many hours later when I opted for an epidural. We will never forget how helpful and kind she was during our first birth experience and we would definetly recommend her to anyone looking for a doula in the Greater Victoria area.
