Cate is seriously such an amazing person! When I was having issues breastfeeding my son, the first person I wanted to talk to was Cate. I told her a bit of the issues we were having, and she walked me through all of the possible root causes and told me what to look for to ensure my son was healthy. I was concerned about his weight gain, and she calmly asked me if his nails and hair were growing, was he making eye contact with me, was he hitting his developmental milestones, did tears come out of his eyes when he cried, were his lips pink etc. When I answered yes, she asked me about his stools and said our issues sounded like a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance and to try pumping before putting him on the breast. Because she confirmed the imbalance, I was able to do more research and see that my son had a severe tongue tie, which we were able to get fixed at a pediatric dentist's office. Cate kept me calm, brought me back to earth, told me not to stress about it and offered possible solutions and encouraged me to continue breastfeeding when so many other pediatricians, lactation consultants, and friends had encouraged me to give formula. My son is now 5 months old and we are STILL breastfeeding successfully! Part of that is because of Cate and her encouragement/knowledge! She's so well-read and only makes statements that she knows has been proven to help mothers and babies or that she has had personal experience with.

Thank you, Cate!!! She is definitely an amazing doula and I will be calling her if we decide to have another child!

If you are looking for a doula, Cate Manfe is the one you want! The 21 hour labor and birth of my son in Nov. 2015 was the most joyful experience of my life: An experience that would not have been the same without Cate.

My husband and I met Cate at Whole Foods. We were discussing the idea of having a doula, but we were on the fence. After talking with Cate, we were sold. She gave us a sense of confidence and peace about the birthing process and we knew she was the doula for us.

Here are a few things I loved about having Cate as our doula:

  • Pre/Post Birth Support: Cate met with us at our home to discuss our birth goals and help us create a flexible birth plan. She made me feel so at ease about the whole process because I felt like we had a solid plan for achieving our goal of healthy baby, healthy mom.
  • Availability: Cate was always available via phone or email whenever I had any questions or concerns. When the time came for us to head to the hospital (around midnight), she was easy to get a hold of and arrived quickly.
  • Anticipates Needs: Lips dry and feeling parched during labor? Cate's brought you some chapstick and coconut water for that. Feeling annoyed about answering the pain scale question yet again? Cate has noted your frustration and already asked the nurse to direct all questions to her or your husband. Need to get that baby moving? Cate's already got a plan in place for the next position to move labor along. Cate listened to what I said, as well as to what my nonverbals were saying.
  • Knowledgeable Advocate: Whenever labor went off track from our birth plan, Cate was agile. She was an advocate for me, asking the doctors and nurses for clarification or alternate methods so that the birth went the best for the baby.

If another baby is in our future, I'm happy to say that Cate will be by our side when that baby arrives.

Cate was awesome to work with! She was my doula with my first baby, and she made me feel so comfortable! I had done a lot of research on my own, about natural birth techniques and had the support of my husband, and two sisters that would be present in the labor and delivery room, but I wanted someone with me who had their own natural birth and knew what it was like. The first time I met Cate I just knew she and I would be a good fit - we shared a lot of the same beliefs and opinions and she made me feel super comfortable. After that first meeting she told me what to expect when working with her and she was very accommodating. She came to our home, to meet with my husband and I about how we wanted the labor to go and created our birth plan and back up plan. When labor actually hit, she was right there to help my husband know what would help the most and wasn't afraid to help during the contractions. She was on top of everything and had complete confidence in me. It was very empowering! Plus she was just as excited as we were to meet our baby girl!! Turns out things didn't go as planned, with the natural birth (shocking!) but she was there for support and helped me make the best decision for me - which was easy to do, since we already had back-up plans and I didn't feel blindsided. Cate is really wonderful! She is super supportive and very approachable. She made everything feel possible and exciting!

I absolutely loved my experience with Cate. I contacted her very last minute and she still took me on as a client and did everything she could to meet my needs. I was attempting a vbac and not only was she supportive but she advocated for me as well. I would, and have,  recommended her to friends of mine having children. If I ever decide to have any more children in the future I hope she's still a doula because I would absolutely want to use her again.
