Susan is an amazing, genuine person! From the moment we met her, we knew she would make a great team member! I cannot imagine what my 38 hour labor would look like if she wasn't next to me. She was careful to attend to my needs and motivate me to stay strong in what ended up being my all natural birth, which was my goal! They say of all the women who want to do natural birth, only 2% actually do it. Susan made that happen for me and I am eternally grateful!
Susan Young was our Doula during the birth of our daughter (and first child) on 2/2/17. My wife had a vaginal birth, no complications, and we owe this to having Susan as our coach and champion.
Susan is genuine, loving, tranquil, devoted, spiritual, charitable and resourceful.
Susan is always prepared for her lessons/meetings, goes the extra mile to educate and inform parents on current issues related to birth.
Susan made us feel so comfortable during her visits and would answer our questions promptly. She would bring baked goods on some occasions.
When my wife made 37wks, Susan made herself available to us and would answer texts no matter what time of the day/night it was.
When contractions began for my wife at 2am, Susan came to our home at 3am, helped my wife stay calm and focused by trying different positions, massages, rice-sock therapy and with her calm, collective voice. At 4am, Susan followed us to the hospital and stayed with us all day till delivery at 8pm. Yes, she was with us for 18hours!
While at the hospital, Susan had all her Doula gear with her and proceeded to support my wife during contractions by offering massages, applying heating pad and suggesting different position changes like birth ball, soaking in the tub, rocking chair. She included me in her work and I never felt helpless. It felt like teamwork, each person filling in a role in harmony and love.
Susan was laways respectful of the nurses and doctors in the way she conversed with them and translated any technical matters with us.
Susan documented EVERYTHING that transpired during our birthing experience and saved this log for us to keep.
Susan visited us postpartum and brought MORE resources for my wife.
We count Susan as Family now. Her experience, passion and dedication CANNOT be quantified in any dollar figure. God has blessed her with this calling and she's damn good!
We were lucky enough to have Susan as our post-partum doula for two months after my son's birth. She was amazing. We didn't have any family support living nearby and having Susan come to help me with Will once a week was a real life-saver.
I found myself writing down questions during the week to discuss with her every visit - and greatly valued all her advice and gentle care (for both mum and baby!)
Having Susan allowed me to get a fresh food shop, a new meal cooked to last a few nights and some time to catch up on odd-jobs while she cared for Will. She kept in contact with me around her visits - checking in to see how we were going and before each visit to see how she could maximize her time with me.
Best of all, was how wonderful she was with my baby - Will was always calm and happy with her, and that meant mum was happy too ! I can't recommend Susan highly enough, if you're lucky enough to get her as a post-partum doula you will be very glad.
We truly loved working with Susan as our postpartum doula. She started work early by proactively sending excellent guides and helpful references a couple of weeks before our child's birth. During our time in the 8 weeks following, she went above and beyond to help us with all aspects of life with a new baby including anything from helping calm our baby to infant massage to babywearing to helping with baby laundry and much more. Most importantly, she provided lots of helpful tools and insights into the educational and developmental aspects of babies. Each time we saw her, we learned something new! We also had her assist us a number of times overnight which helped us get much needed extra sleep. I would highly recommend her for any postpartum support!
Susan was our doula for our son born August 2016. We loved working with her! She was so nice and helpful throughout my entire pregnancy and delivery. I ended up having an epidural and Susan was still really helpful to have with us. She helped me move positions often and helped me relax through massage, aromatherapy, and just talking to me. She was able to explain a lot of the processes to us and was able to help us understand what was going on when complications arose. She was a really great resource for us to understand what was going on and what decisions we needed to make when things weren't going as planned. I was so thankful to have her there with us. We would definitely highly recommend her!
Susan Young provided myself and my wife–new parents–with pre-birth education that prepared us well for our son's arrival. During labor, we remained calm and confident about our decisions even when circumstances changed because all the while, Susan used her expertise to coach us through the challenges we faced and her grace to help us keep perspective. Her steadyhandedness and massage prowess also proved to be a comfort to my wife and to myself. I wholeheartedly recommend Susan Young for birth doula services.
Susan Young is a wonderful doula and we would recommend her to all friends and family. From the beginning, she put us at ease, offered pertinent educational materials, and answered questions. She arrived on time for the birth, advocated for myself and my family, got along great with hospital staff, provided comfort and support (including massages, helpful feedback and individualized care) and stayed to help with infant bonding. Her care didn't end at birth, as she provided in-home postpartum massage and encouragement afterwards. We would definitely work with her again!
Whew! What a ride - first baby. To say that Susan put my wife and I at ease is an understatement. We met Susan during one of the group meetings to meet the available Doula's. Thankfully Susan was wonderful from the start, and she was clear on how to get ready. Susan is a great listener and it was obvious from the start that we related to her the best. I have to breathe deep to compose myself each time I remember back to Susan and for what she did for my wife and I when we needed help the most, as my son was being born.
To the men: Decide with your lady to hire Susan and don't look back. I hope everything goes smooth and easy and nothing too dramatic happens for you and your Mom to be. If it doesn't, however, you want Susan around. Hospital shift changes can disrupt the care and attention you get, but nothing will disrupt Susan. She will be there when you need her and this will be one decision you can confidently say you did correct. Don't let Susan's polite, supportive, and uniquely positive voice and demeanor distract you from her toughness, experience, strength and poise under pressure.
My wife's pregnancy was for the most part a pleasant one, and the delivery went as well as could be expected, until it didn't. Susan was beside my wife for 20 straight hours and kept me and my wife calm and comfortable. Right at the very end, however, events escalated from a walk in the park into a blown tire at 1000 mph, over a cliff, into the darkness of every man's nightmare worst case scenario where all I could do was watch and hold on. Susan "interpreted" what was happening through my wife's 20 hour labor into the mad scramble at the end, and made everything ok, until everything became, ok.
Be well, stay happy, and if you are lucky enough to do so, pick Susan to walk you through this. All the love and luck to you and yours, Chris
Susan is wonderful!
I'd would describe our experience with Susan in three words: educational, empowering, and calming.
Susan educated us with all of our options for pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpardum, and always supported the choices we made.
With that education, I felt much more empowered to ask good questions of my medical care-givers, to ask for what I wanted, and to deny what I didn't want.
Susan's demeanor is unlike any other. She's bubbly yet relaxed, outgoing but calm, encouraging but accepting. I couldn't imagine a better person to have in the room for my delivery. Plus she gives amazing prenatal massages!
My husband and I had such an incredible experience with Susan. We will continue to recommend her to anyone in search of a Doula.
We had a fantastic birth experience (before, during, and after) with Susan and I would highly recommend her.
One reason I chose Susan was her skills as a massage therapist. It was awesome to have some maternity massages and I enjoyed my postpartum massage to help soothe the muscles that are used in nursing and holding a baby.
I used Susan for the birth of my second daughter. I had an unmedicated, vaginal birth with my first daughter and wanted the same with my second. I had expected (I don't know why) that the birth would be similar to my first. But I ended up having three nights of false labor which Susan helped me through. We went to the hospital and tried to keep the labor going with walking and exercises and massage but it wasn't to be. And after discussing the same labor pains with Susan on the third time, I was able to just stay at home, confident that it wasn't quite "real".
When it came time for the real event, Susan was extremely helpful in getting me through an unmedicated vaginal delivery at the hospital.
Susan was always professional, has lots of tools she can use in labor, and was very easy to work with. I highly recommend her.
Susan is an excellent doula! I really wanted a doula who was also skilled at massage, and an added bonus was that she is familiar with hypnobabies, something that I used in my second pregnancy. She has several different packages and we chose one with a labor prep massage, post partum massage, and infant massage, in addition to continuous labor support. Susan was very supportive throughout everything and made a point to know my wishes and birth plan as well as my fears. My labors are very long so having Susan there was great not only for me but for my husband as well. Just so happens that I went into labor during very bad weather, but miraculously she made it safely to the hospital. I'm sure that her pressure point massages helped my contractions get consistent. I had a second successful vbac and I know Susan's support was key. I received my postpartum massage about a week later and I'm sure it helped reduce swelling. I highly recommend Susan and I look forward to having her as my doula if/when I have another baby.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience with Susan. She is so organized and happy to give and share information, including lending out her yoga and educational DVDs. She assisted us in writing up our birth plan, printed it and gave it to hospital staff when we arrived. She put a lot of effort into making a music playlist as well. Her interaction with nurses and doctors was great and her application of counter pressure on my lower back during birth was perfect. Susan is very knowledgable, kind and a great communicator. I added some prenatal massages and really enjoyed them too, especially the convenience of her coming to my home with her massage table. This was our second child and second experience using a doula. I would definitely use Susan again if we have a third!
Susan is incredibly organized, professional and prepared as well as very thoughtfu. During labor, she helped us meet our goals of avoiding an epidural and keeping a calm environmental in the l and d room, where we had our second baby, our daughter, by vbac. She knew exactly what to suggest as far as vocalizations and position to make labor less stressful and worked well with hospital staff as well. The massage was also very helpful as were the pamphlets and suggested reading. I would definitely hire her again if I were having another baby.
Susan is a great teacher. We had three packed childbirth education classes with her, but the classes were never boring. She incorporated relaxation exercises into each class as well as movements and positions to try during labor. I feel much more prepared to labor naturally and my husband feels more empowered as my coach. Susan also gave us trustworthy resources to access about labor and delivery as well as baby care, breastfeeding, and postpartum concerns.
I'm a first time mom, and Susan guided me through my pregnancy and labor and delivery. My #1 rule during my pregnancy was not to google anything, and even all of the books out there overwhelmed me. So I really only asked my doctor (who I love, but she's so difficult to get a hold of), the very few girlfriends that I have with kids (who I love, but aren't professionals), and Susan (who has so much experience and knowledge) all of my questions and concerns about pregnancy and childbirth. Susan sees about 2 births per month and she knows her stuff! I personally don't think doctors do a very good job of thoroughly explaining things through and educating their patients on all of their options. I feel there is a big gap between doctors and patients in terms of communication, and Susan filled that gap in beautifully for me.
Working with a Susan throughout my pregnancy allowed her to really get to know my husband and me. She really tailored the classes to our personality and sent me links and told me about videos and websited that she knew I would love. She is so sweet and thoughtful, I ate up everthing she sent me. Also, my husband and I really took a lot of comfort in knowing that she would be there. (Both of us are first time parents.)
Most importnantly is this: Something I was so unaware of about having a baby is how inexplicably vulnerable you are as you are having contractions and pushing your baby out. It's such a sensitive time, whether your experience is positive or negative, it will deeply affect you for the rest of your life. Susan is very positive and has such a calming presence. That positivity and equanimity was just so crucial. Susan helped me have a beautiful birthing experiece which every woman deserves but not every woman gets. I recommend Susan with all of my heart!
Susan was a wonderfully calming and reassuring pressence during labor. We wanted to have a natural birth, but chose to be in a hospital instead of a birth center because it was my first pregnancy. Susan was very helpful in supporting us when the medical staff were trying to push for medical interventions (such as pitocin). She encouraged me to try different positions to help progress the labor and helped maintain a calm atmosphere in the labor room. In additionn to helping me labor in different positions, she offered massages, kept track of events during the labor, played a relaxation recording, helped us anticipate and prepare for upcoming events (such as shift changes and stages of labor) and helped me to allow my body to do what it was capable of. I am confident that Susan's presence during my labor helped me to have an unmedicated birth.
Susan provided support not only for me, but also for my husband. She knew when to give us space and helped him feel confident in supporting me and standing up to the medical staff. We were so fortunate to have her supporting us during the birth of our daughter. I would highly recommend her to others.
We are first time parents and my husband was a bit hesitant at first when I requested a doula. He wanted me to feel comfortable so he obliged. We met Susan at our home and she came prepared, on time, and with such a happy and sweet personality, but what mattered most to us was that she was extremely knowledgeable and respectful. She was a good listener and she was very open to answering all the questions we had. I signed up for the birth class, prenatal massage, baby massage, assistance during birth, and the postpartum massage.
We had no idea what to expect since this was our first baby. During the birth class, Susan showed us the different stages of birth and what they would look like.
The prenatal massage helped my body relax and prepare for the birth. The baby massage is wonderful for our little one. We give her a massage at least once a day after a warm bath, she loves it.
When I went into labor, Susan had taught my husband what he could do to help me with my contractions while at home. It was wonderful to have my husband go through this process with me. When we arrived at the birth center at 2:30am, Susan was ready with a hot bath and led me thorugh my birth by helping me relax and at times make me laugh (which helps with the relaxation). Susan helped me with so many positions to make me feel as comfortable as possible, and I wouldn't have had this experience it it weren't for her presence. Our beautiful healthy baby girl was born at 5:26am. The key to an efficient labor is to remain calm and relaxed. Susan guided me throughout the birth which helped me stay relaxed.
Our daughter's birth was such a beautiful and empowering experience for both of us. We were blessed to have found a respectful, knowledgable and experienced doula such as Susan :).

Susan is great!
I decided on a package deal which included several pre-natal massages, a labor induction massage (I was hoping for a specific birthday for our little one and it WORKED!), and post-natal massage, in addition to help on Birth Day. I was REALLY happy with the way this worked. Not only are the massages greatly relaxing and enjoyable (not to mention great for circulation etc.), but the multiple hours spent with Susan prior to delivery helped us get to know each other well, for me to ask all the questions I could think of and to talk about different preferences, expectations and concerns.
Her calming presence on the big day was a great help! In fact, my two people in the room have repeatedly stated that they don't know what we would have done without her. Susan helped me remain calm (which in itself is a huge help) and provided many suggestions for position changes to decrease pain and at one point, when my labor began to slow down, she knew some tricks to help keep us moving forward.
Susan is a warm and caring person. Before, during and since the birth, she has been very helpful to me and we are so happy we found her. I have recommended her to others and will continue to do so for anyone looking for a doula and/or a massage therapist.
Susan is awesome! We were so blessed to have her help us. I met Susan when I was 6 months pregnant and I was immediately drawn to her calm, patient, and caring personality. She arrived at the hospital in the wee hours of the morning to walk the halls with me and my husband after my water broke. Being a massage therapist, she is very knowledgeable about the muscles and that was very helpful during labor. My desire was to have a natural birth so we all worked as a team trying different ways to work through the contractions. She would push my hips and apply pressure on my low back while my husband put ice on my neck during a contraction. We tried lots of different positions on an exercise ball and she would relieve my husband when he got tired. She really was the perfect helper for us. Her patience and calmness was really a gift because I had a very long labor. Eventually I needed medication and an epidural to get things moving. Even when I was resting in the bed, Susan was rubbing my feet and caring for me. When it was time to push, she was right there, holding one of my legs and being my cheerleader. I am so grateful for her wonderful presence as we welcomed our daughter into the world. I would have loved to have her there for the birth of our second child, but she had already moved away. She truly is amazing.
We recently welcomed our first child into the world and wanted to share our experience on working with a doula and in particular Susan Young. As first time parents we were reading several books and listening to friends and family about what to expect in our birthing experience. We turned to a doula because we wanted the support they provide as well as one-on-one care and information. Susan has many great qualities and it is obvious she enjoys what she does. This isn't just a "job" but rather something she feels passionate about and takes the time to give you all the facts. She is also punctual (something you want when you're pregnant, hormonal and don't have time for people being late!). She was very knowledgeable in the whole birth process no matter what I asked her she knew the information or had access to it. We planned a natural birth but in the end not only did I get an epidural but I ended up having to get a C Section. Through this whole process Susan was our rock and kept me calm. We would not have been as comfortable and as happy with our decisions were it not for Susan. Finally I will also say an amazing perk is that she is an AMAZING masseuse. Susan gave me several pregnancy massages which were part of our package and I could not have lasted those last few weeks if it weren't for that. She is superb and was able to relax me at a time when I needed it most. Overall we want to thank her very much for all the support.
I knew from the very beginning of my pregnancy the kind of delivery I wanted to have. I wanted to have a natural hospital birth with as little medical intervention as possible. That being said, I do not consider myself very tough when it comes to pain or needles or blood. I knew I would need a lot of support and mental preparation in order to overcome my fears and carry out the birth plan that I wanted. After doing some research and reading about other moms' experiences, my husband and I decided that we would be interested in finding a doula to assist us during labor and delivery. One of my friends highly recommended Houston Pregnancy Massage and Doula Care. From there, we were lucky enouch to find Susan.
The first time we met Susan, I felt like she was exactly who I needed to help support me during my delivery. She is very gentle, calming and reassuring. We met with her over the course of my pregnancy to discuss our vision of the delivery, what her role would be, etc. She helped us understand what we could expect from the labor process and what to prepare for. Unfortunately I missed my prenatal massages because I was put on bed rest.
Susan arrived at the hospital a few hours after labor began. She immediately started massaging me and helping me find the best positions to make me the most comfortable. She helped my husband and I work as a team to help the labor progress naturally and as smoothly as possible. She offered both mental and physical support throughout the entire 12 hours I labored. Thanks to Susan, I was able to carry out my birth plan exactly as planned-no meds, no monitors. I cannot imagine getting through it without her. She is amazing! My husband and I continue to talk about what an amazing experience the birth of our son was and Susan was a huge part in it!
