I am a WOC and have been a Birth Worker for more than 9 years, only 4 years in Chicago. I practice as a Full Spectrum Birth Worker, giving support and education on any pregnancy outcome, planned or not. I am currently working on my Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) certification. I coordinate my own project Mama Aicha and Chicago Birth Workers of Color (ChiBiWoCo), advocating for CPM autonomy, legalization and honor of ancestral practices in Puerto Rico with La Hermandad de Parteras de Puerto Rico (Midwives Sisterhood of Puerto Rico) and in IL with ICCPM. Currently, I am providing feminist oriented reproductive and sexual health education, care and services trough Clinical Services and the Alternative Insemination program in Chicago Women's Health Center. I am a healer and specialize in pregnancy massage, womb sobos (massage), vaginal steam baths and feetility consults.

Supe q estaba embarazada y pense quiero q el proceso de mi embarazo sea el mejor y recurri a Jackie pq necesitaba tener a alguien q pudiera guiarme en mi travesia. Jackie me dio unas preguntas guias para asi escoger a quien seria mi ginecologo. Y mientras pasaban las semanas me iba explicando como seria todo. Hubo un gran cambio en mi embarazo, a mis 23 semanas comence a perder liquido aminiotico por lo q fui llevada al hosp para lograr que por lo menos llegase a las 32 semanas. Jackie busco inf sobre lo q me estaba pasando, recuerdo q me dijo que tenia un grupo de doulas q la estaban ayudando para ver como hacian para q comenzara a recuperar el liquido. Y asi fue dia a dia ella pendiente, recuerdo lo mas imp q me dijo "debes conectarte con tu bebe recuerda que lo q tu sientes tu bebe tambien asi q debes estar tranquila y relajada para q eso sea lo q le transmitas porque no queremos que nazca antes de tiempo" y asi lo hice. Jackie me consiguio agua de coco pq en su busqueda encontro me podia ayudar a recuperar el liquido amniotico. Y llego el dia, mi bebe a las 25 semanas queria nacer, recuerdo haberla llamado pq no entendia lo que me estaba pasando, estaba teniendo contracciones y me dijo como debia respirar y como monitorear mis contracciones. Despues de largas horas no podian esperar mas por lo q me iban a llevar a sala de parto y entonces me indican que me tenian que hacer cesarea. En ese momento me asuste un poco, pero  la llame y luego de su explicacion entendi que era lo mejor para mi bebe y solo en ese momento estuve de acuerdo con la cesarea. Nacio mi bebe peso 1.5 lbs y midio 10.5 plgds. Una vez mas Jackie me ayudo ya q como no podia lactar a mi hija no me salia mucha leche. Ella me dijo que debia hacer para tener produccion de leche. Ni Jacki ni yo estabamos preparadas para todo lo q ocurrio, pero definitivamente ella fue una pieza esencial. Hoy dia mi hija tiene 5 anos. Gracias Jackie.
