I was late to our first interview (pregnancy brain). I remember rushing in with my 3 year old enormously pregnant, stressed because of time and hauling a Christmas tree on my car. Truly, a hot mama mess! Mallory had been waiting for at least 20 minutes. Most people would be at least somewhat annoyed in this situation... Mallory immediately put me at ease. I knew from only speaking a few words to her that she was the right fit. She has this gentle calming energy. I went from stressed to relaxed within minutes of talking to her.
That is how every encounter has been with this sweet woman. She is genuinely caring, she makes you feel heard and understood. She has a nurturing and loving presence. She’s also down for a good laugh!!
Leading up to my birth I was struggling with PTSD from my previous birth as I had postpartum Pre eclampsia with my first baby. I had a terrible fear of the BP cuff, which was tricky as I had to navigate multiple readings through my pregnancy and birth experience. Mallory was a total pro- she had incredibly creative thinking that allowed for my readings to be taken in a low stress environment. I think Mallory has a particular strength when it comes to us mamas that struggle with anxiety.
When it came time to gave birth, she was my advocate and helped me navigate complicated decisions. She was warm and intuitive. She had a gentle touch - I remember her rubbing my feet during contractions and it was so grounding. She guided me through a beautiful CSection. She handled somewhat awkward family dynamics in the birth room as well. I will forever love and cherish this woman!
It was a wonderful experinence having Mal as our birth doula. The pre-birth visits were helpful in preparing for labor and getting us to think about preferences in labor and how Mal could support both myself and my husband best during labor. Mal has a calming and centered presence and has a great toolbox to pull from during labor to help with symptoms as well as positions and pain management techniques. When we were making some decisions during labor Mal was great to review the options and pros and cons of each to help us make the best decisions for us. It was also great to have Mal there to trade off with my husband to rest during the long labor. Our after birth visit was one of my favorite parts. It was great to have Mal come over and answer a lot of our questions that had popped up since bringing our baby home. There was so much we hadn't thought about with the baby before he was born since I was more focused on pregnancy and birth. Mal answered all of our baby questions and provided some great resources and advice and even showed me how to use the wrap I had to carry baby, which made me feel so much more comfortable and confident to wear him and that was a game changer for me in the first few months. We highly recommend Mal as a birth doula.
Mal was the perfect doula for us. Immediately, she helped put me at ease and has a super validating and non-judgemental vibe. She was open to our needs, and was incredibly generous with us on so many levels. I really appreciated how she included my husband in the process, and she helped make me feel great about my birth and my new role as a mother. There were so many steps along the way where Mal really helped shape my experience for the better. I'd highly recommend her to a diverse range of families!
There are absolutely no words to describe how incredible Mal is. From the moment my husband and I met her, we knew she was the missing link to our birth story. We were having a home birth and really wanted to find people we felt safe and comfrotable with, as we were welcoming them into our home and our intimate world. During my pregnancy, she checked in from time to time and always asked if I had questions or concerns, and by the end (i was a week late) she was willing to listen to my stressed out uncomfortable vents.
I had these beautiful dreams of how my interactions would be with my doula on "game day". She was going to be there to comfort me, rub my back, heal all the pains I was feeling, and soothe my soul. Turns out me being in labor meant I wanted NOTHING to do with touching, so out went my dreams of comfort massage and easing my back labor. I rememeber laboring and feeling so guilty that she was there, but I quickly realized she was the calming energy in the house and I couldnt have done it without her. The minute she walked in, my husband was able to take a deep breath and relax, and I felt that comfort and safe I was looking for.
Her calming voice and words of encouragement kept me sane. I dont know how many times I heard "lower your sounds" and "you're doing great mama" but they still replay in my head months later. I swear I hear her saying "you're doing great mama" everytime I feel myself getting overwhelmed with motherhood.
Mal is one of the most beautiful souls I have ever encountered and I cant recommend her enough.
We decided last minute (around 37 weeks) to hire a doula and were mathced with Mal. Hiring Mal was one of the best decisions that we made throughout my pregnancy. She was incredible to work with before, during and after the labor. The pre-labor meetings were incredibly helpful as I developed late pregnancy complications and she was able to help us understand what was happening and the possible implications. I had an extremely difficult, complicated and traumatic labor and birth and she was our rock the entire time. She helped my husband and I understand what was happening during all of the complications and made us feel like we were still active participants in the birth. She helped me labor naturally as long as possible, with lots of position changes, techniques and constant support. She is both kind and nurturing as well as assertive enough to help me get through when I could not make a deicison or did not know what to do next. I would recommend Mal to anyone.
My husband and I were so glad to have Mal present for the birth of our daughter; we can't speak highly enough of her. We are first-time parents and were working with the nurse midwives at OHSU. Because the midwives rotate schedules, we didn't know who would be there that night. We wanted someone with us who was knowledgeable about birth AND who knew us. So we searched for a doula. I wasn't really sure what questions to ask Mal when we met to see if it was a good match, but I knew the two things I really wanted was that knowledge and a flexible attitude toward options--everyone seems to have an opinion about the "right" way to birth, and coming up with a birth plan was overwhelming. I hoped to find someone with evidence-based knowledge who could help us figure out what WE wanted/needed and support us in that. And that was her!
The pre/post visits were very helpful, as was her availability by texting before and after--she has a lot of knowledge and wisdom, and we were able to ask lots of questions. When the day came, she arrived at the hospital quickly. She was a fantastic cheerleader and support, and great with suggestions on positions and such. It was a long, hard labor and difficult birth, and I'm so glad she was there. She didn't replace my husband, but really helped him be the best support he could be and provided an additional support. (He's been raving about her to our friends and family, talking about how helpful it was for him to have her there!) She has a calming and happy presence.
My birth didn't go as planned, for reasons totally outside my control, but I felt great about my birth story. "Birth is birth is birth", Mal had told us multiple times beforehand, and we can't be in 100% control. But I felt I had agency in the decisions made and had thought through enough things in advance to make informed decisions when circumstances changed, and to do so without guilt. And Mal was a great help with that.
We highly recommend her!
I hired Mal as my Doula for the birth of my daughter in 2016.
As soon as I met Mal I felt relaxed and at ease. I'd be searching for the a doula that was the right fit, and I found her!
Mal was informative and patient, (i had lots of questions as first time mums do)warm and caring.
What i really liked was that facilitated and guided rather than impose her views of the choices and direction me and my husband were making. She offered help and support when necessary.
When it came to crunch time Mal came to my house and was a warm presence in a time when i needed that. I felt so much more relaxed knowing she was in the room and she rubbed my back for ages encourgaed me to move, walk and try different positions yet it still felt very much a priavte time between me, my husband and my baby.
Thank you so much Mal for such a wonderful experience. I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend Mal to people looking to hire a warm, knowledgable, peaceful doula.
After I attended an accelerated childbirth class Mal was teaching, my views on labor and delivery completely changed. Over the course of a few hours, she opened my eyes to the beauty of birth, the strength and innate ability of our bodies, and the empowering experience we can claim from bringing a child into the world. The relationship I had with my partner at the time was rocky at best. I knew if I wanted the supportive, encouraging birth environment, that had suddenly become so important to me, I would need someone there to provide positivity where others could not. I spoke to Mal immediately after the class ended, and was blessed to have her by my side, even 8 eight months pregnant herself, when the time came for my son to be born. I called Mal into the hospital around 12:30am. She kept me company, exhausted as we both were, not only throughout the night and into the afternoon, but throughout all the frustration of a slow progressing labor, pain, nausea, and feelings of inadequacy when pain management became too tempting to pass up. She never once doubted my decisions, and made me feel strong about all of the accomplishments I had already completed on my journey to motherhood. Guiding women through the journey of childbirth is what Mal was put on this earth to do. It is her calling. You can hear it in the way she talks, and see it on her face when she smiles. There is something uniquely otherworldly about Mal. I know it sounds silly, but sometimes it is as if you can see her spirit personified around her in an almost tangible aura. She is an angel of compassion for women like me, and a guiding light of knowledge for couples who are lucky enough to go through this sublime experience together. Through all of my tears, and the typhoon of emotions that had swept over me, I still fondly recall the look on her face when my son was born, and it is something that I will never forget.
After doing some research on how to set the stage for a natural birth experience, I knew the first step was to hire a doula and Mal seemed like the perfect match. My birth experience was unpredictable, to say the least. I wasn't sure if I was in actual labor for most of the labor because it seemed to go by so quickly and I thought first-time births were supposed to be slow! Mal wasn't there in person when I was in labor but she helped my husband figure out what to do and we were able to make it to the hospital just in time. In fact, without Mal's wise guidance and quick thinking, we would have had our baby at home given that I was already fully dilated by the time I got checked in at the hospital. Her calm tone helped my husband immensely when he was borderline panicking about what to do and how to help me. We had taken the Bradley Method class for 10 weeks but our birth experience was not something we could have predicted. I don't think anyone can predict what their birth experience is going to be like, that's why it's so important to have a doula! When Mal was able to make it to the hospital she stayed with me while my husband went to the NICU with our baby. She was the calming presence in a chaotic environment and without her, I can guarantee the hospital experience would have been way different. If you are pregnant for the first time, reading this, wondering if you need a doula if you have a supportive partner, I say yes, go for it! My husband wanted to be supportive and tried but ultimately he needed to be supported too. Partners can't always do it all on their own! They need support too! That's where Mal really shined. I am happy we hired her, even if she wasn't there in person for the labor and birth, she still supported us over the phone and I am SO grateful we had her!
Mal Warning was fantastic!! She joined us rather late in our pregnancy and made us feel comfortable right away with her calm energy and positive attitude. During our meetings, Mal offered us some much needed advice and resources as we progressed closer to our due date. She was a huge help with our birth plan and options. During labor and delivery, Mal was very present, available and calm. It was really wonderful to have her be a part of our first birth. We'd definitely do it again!!
We think her experience as both a mother and a doula really gives her some incredible insight into the needs of a new mother.
Mal also helped us with the preparation of our placenta and she had everything ready for us when we returned home.
Thanks for everything Mal. You rock!!

There just aren't enough words to describe how grateful I am to have had Mal to guide me through my birth experience.
From the moment I interviewed her, I fell in love with her calm, loving spirit and felt drawn to her. I had three more interviews set up but I left hers thinking, "I promised myself I would evaluate this, but I know that she was meant to help me bring Sebastian in to the world. During my pregnancy she always felt accessible. She was compassionate and steady in her support for me during my very difficult transition. I struggled with some serious fears, and my plan to do drug free didn't go exactly as I planned but Mal helped me to be at peace with whatever decision I felt was right and in the end, I had a beautiful birth experience. I was able to take a moment with my husband and reflect on the life coming in to the world instead of being swallowed by fear and panic as I was during my previous birth.
If you are considering hiring a doula and aren't sure whether Mal is right for you, or whether a birth companion is right for you, I encourage you to meet with her. I feel completely blessed to have met Mal when I did and to have had her there when we welcomed our last baby into the world.
My husband and I instantly felt connected to Mal when we initially met. As first time parents, we felt incredibly nervous to say the least. Throughout my pregnancy, she was readily available to answer any questions and offer a listening ear. She checked in often to let me know shew was thinking about me and to offer support. She assisted us in creating our Birth Preference Plan, which included goals of an unmedicated birth. She was encouraging and non-judgmental, while also providing opinions and expertise - a balance my husband and I sought when choosing a doula. We went into labor 3 days after our due date and labored at home for the first phase. Once at the hospital, Mal was by my side and remained there for the entire 15 hours before our son was born. During the labor she offered comfort and encouragement and tangible strategies for managing my contractions (breathing exercises, mantras, massage and touch, aroma therapy, positioning). My husband was able to get some much needed rest and to this day tells everyone he wouldn't have been able to do it without Mal! It's his number one piece of advice he gives to people who ask him about the birth process - hire an amazing doula! She worked with my midwife and the nurses in such an amazing way, they loved her and even asked for her card after the birth! Throughout our long and challenging labor, Mal continued to encourage me and reassure me of my strength during my times of weakness and doubt and we were able to stick to our goal of an unmedicated birth despite several challenges along the way. I know I couldn't have done it without Mal. Immediately after he was born, Mal took a couple pictures which I cherish so much and assisted me in our first breastfeeding. I can't express enough how much it meant to have Mal as part of our birth story. I have already recommended her to several mamas and will continue to! I look back at the labor with so much pride and empowerment, thank you Mal!
We were so happy when we were connected with Mal. We met with her a few times before the birth to talk about everything and we instantly felt a connection with her, like she was an old friend. We were able to ask her a million questions during those meetings and she was a wealth of information.
Having Mal there for the birth of our daughter was such a HUGE help. My husband was great, but it was so helpful and comforting having a woman there to speak calmly and confidently to me and reassure me that I was capable. She was positive and cheerful the entire time and I can't imagine not having her there counting down for each contraction. For whatever reason that was my saving grace. There were a few times when the doctor was recommending that I get an epideral which was something that I originally didn't want to do. Because we went over my birth plan prior to the labor she was able to remind me of the birth I was hoping to have in a time I wasn't able to make good decisions. I was so thankful for that!
We love Mal and hope to have her again if there are any more kiddos in our future!
Mal was a fantastic doula to work with! She is very knowledgeable, calm and reassuring. Her ability to help me fully relax during labor helped me to let my body do the work that it knew how to do. Without her, I think my labor would have been much longer and more stressful. She was able to help me find a state of calm that I did not know was possible during labor! She was a wonderful, calm support for both my husband and I. I highly recommend her!
Mal was such an important addition to our team! Due to some complications, I learned during my third trimester that I would most likely required a scheduled cesarean - definitely not part of my plan for how things would go. Mal was so supportive, helping us through both the logistics and the emotional roller coaster of those last few weeks before our son was born. She work so well with the hospital staff and was an incredibly reassuring presence in the ER, helping to make the experience a beautiful celebration rather than a clinical procedure. She also provided some much needed support and guidance for us as first time parents during the first few weeks we were home. Mal is the best!
We absolutely loved having Mal as a doula! From our prenatal visits to our postpartum appointments, she was so helpful and supportive. We loved having her come into our home and talk through what we hoped for our birth. Mal is such a calm and open person, when we had questions she was always so unbiased and focused on helping us make informed decisions that we felt good about. I learned so much from her, especially towards the end when my son was (12 days!) late. She was able to recommend some natural ways to induce labor and get things moving. When I finally went into labor, she joined us in our home and was such a wave of peace. Helping me focus through each contraction I was able to stay calm and comfortable, and she was such an ally for my husband to call on. Would recommend Mal without a doubt to any mama.
Mal is simply the best. Her personality is A perfect mix of calm, soothing, relaxing and empowering. She supported us through the birth of our first baby, little Samuel.
Mal encouraged me to believe in my own strength and ability even when I ended up having to be induced, which was terrifying to me! Because of her support I was able to bring my little boy into the world without pain medication as I had hoped. Even though I had to change my mindset on how my labor would begin I was able to labor and deliver on my terms.
Mal was a tremendous help in giving my husband a break during labor so that he could be at his best when I needed him most. Afterwards my husband said he doesn't think he would have been able to do it without her help!
Mal even cut the cord when our little one came, my husband is a bit squemish, and I now think about that fondly as it only seemed fitting that she have a special part in Samuel's birth.
Thank you Mal for your loving care and guidance as we navigated life before, during, and after the arrival of Samuel!
We would welcome Mal into our birth story again in a heartbeat next time around and hope you welcome her into yours, you will not regret it if you do!
My husband and I live far from our families. Once I found out we were having a baby, I knew I wanted a doula to support and guide me through the birthing process since our closest friends and family weren't nearby.
I am so happy that we met Mal. At our first meeting, I immediately loved her energy, her knowledge, and her acceptance on every mama's wishes, wants, and unique perspectives on birthing. I so love how open Mal is to any type of birth, having no judgements whatsoever on what I might want to see happen during my little one's birth, and advocating for me during the process.
My little girl came three weeks early and once my husband and I got to the hospital everything happened so quickly. Mal was amazing at keeping me calm and focused. She helped my baby latch immediately and I think that was a huge part of my successful breastfeeding. A few days after coming home, Mal came over to see how things were going and eased all my first time, "I have no idea what I'm doing," mama worries. When I had even more questions, she gave me a list of different resources and always checked in to see how I was feeling.
Mal is amazing. I would recommend her in a heartbeat for anyone looking for a birth doula. She made my husband, my new baby, and especially me, feel important, cared for, and empowered to be a great papa, babe, and mama.
My husband and I had the privelige of working with Mal for the birth of our second child. She was so easy to talk to, kind, compassionate and knowledgeable – I felt comfortable with her from our first interview and learned so much from her in the weeks leading up to the birth of our son. We were long overdue (12 days) which brought new anxiety I hadn’t experienced with my first. Mal provided a wealth of knowledge and resources for us that empowered our decision making process of how to handle an induction. I experienced a very short and drug-free labor & delivery. I am so thankful for Mal and her ability to tap into my hypnobirthing techniques and plan. She grounded me mentally, giving my husband and me the best support we needed throughout the process. She patiently worked with us and helped us make informed decisions and I can’t imagine having done it without her. Mal’s visit after our birth was a wonderful chance to talk about breastfeeding and postpartum care. We loved Mal and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to other parents.
It was great to work with Mal. Thoughout the ups and downs of 19 hours of labor she was helpful, reassuring and grounding. We were able to work as a team throughout and work with the medical staff at the hospital. We would recommend Mal to anyone but especially working with us as first time parents.
From a Dad in the delivery room perspective - Mal was so important to help be able to cope when things were hard and to reassure that things were going as they should even when things turned a little chaotic. She was always someone to look to for guideance.
From a laboring Mom perspective - Mal was such as important part of being able to carry out my plan for an unmedicated birth. While always being supportive, she also provided the constant refocus needed to work through each step of the process.
I have the great fortune of being able to call Mal my dearest friend so naturally having her at the homebirth of my son this past summer was a blessing. She graciously gave our family her whole day, was thoughtful & supportive for my partner and me as well as for our two daughters and other family members who were with us for the birth. Mal has a confidence and kindness that is infectious and invaluable; knowing when to be present/encouraging/assertive and when to give/hold the space for people and moments to be what they need to be. I am truly grateful to have had her smile, conversation & sense of humor, her love for my daughters & support in making their experience a wonderful one, the few photos she took throughout the day that are some of my most favorite, her foresight to fill my bathtub when she could tell that there was no way baby was going to wait for the birthing tub to be ready and the comfort we all felt just by her presence. Thank you, Mal, for being a part of our birth.
Working with Mal was a wonderful experience from start to finish.
She was great at answering any questions we had during our visits before the hospital and went through some different laboring techniques with me and my wife. Mal is very understanding and easy to talk to, so we were able to express our questions/concerns freely. At the hospital her support was wonderful. I had not slept well the night before the delivery and was naturally tired while supporting my wife during her labor. Mal was able to let me get some much needed shut eye and some lunch during a short period. She worked very well with our nurse and midwife to ensure that my wife's labor went the way we specified in our birth plan. There is nothing I would have changed about her support before and at the hospital.
I would gladly have Mal with us again for our next child and would recommend her to anyone looking for a doula for birth support.
Mal was an excellent doula. My husband and I had used a doula before and had a wonderful experience. We knew what we were looking for and Mal met all of our expectations. From our very first meeting, she was warm, friendly and easy to talk to. We felt totally comfortable sharing our hopes and wishes for our labor and delivery. In our pre-labor meetings, she was confident, knowledgeable and insightful. She gave us great advice and suggestions on how to prepare ourselves for delivery and even on how to handle some late pregnancy symptoms. She was always available by email, phone or text if we had questions or concerns. Mal knows some wonderful techniques for pain management and relaxation which came in handy in labor. During our time laboring in the hospital, she was so helpful and supportive. She never left my side, which was a great help to me and also to my husband- he was able to take breaks to eat and even take a short rest without having to worry about my well-being. Mal’s help continued even after our baby was born. She helped us document his birth with pictures and with a labor and delivery timeline. During the postpartum visit, she continued to give us great advice on caring for a newborn. I would highly recommend Mal to anyone looking for a doula.
As first-time parents, having Mal as our doula was a wonderful experience. She is warm, friendly, and very knowledgeable. Mal met with us several times before our baby's birth to go over our wishes, pain management techniques, and answer any questions we had. She provided us with resources to help us make informed decisions along the way and checked in with me frequently. During labor, Mal's presence was hugely comforting and her calm encouragement helped me work through my pain. I always felt supported in my decisions. Mal was also able to show my husband how he could help and he was so grateful for her guidance. After our daughter was born, Mal visited us in the hospital and at home to make sure we were settling in and provide support with breastfeeding. Overall, we loved working with Mal and would recommend her to anyone considering a doula.
