I work with you to attain the birth you and your partner are comfortable with. I do my part to cooperate with and respect care providers while still encouraging parents to trust their instincts and exercise their rights to be informed and to have a very active role in the process. It is my belief that a positive and welcoming environment for all involved can ultimately lead to a more positive birth and welcome into the world for baby.

“Trust that God will put the right people in your life at right time and for the right reasons.”

Four and a half years ago I gave birth to a baby boy. I went through a crash course at the hospital and read up on what to expect, but in no way was I prepared for giving birth. Fast forward to this past year, physically I had a great pregnancy but emotionally my life was in turmoil. Something inside me told me to work with Val, as I needed a constant during my birth experience. She helped me to make a birth plan, and educated me on things that I didn’t know could happen during birth. Fast forward to the day of, I called Valerie and told her I was on my way to the hospital she promptly met me there with all of her doula goodies. I was 6 cm when I arrived at the hospital, and Val helped me manage my contractions. She did so using acu-pressure and aromatherapy. After one intense contraction as I lay over the birthing ball, my water broke and my body too control. Valerie and the nurse suggested I could do it without the epidural as I was so close to the finish line. I was up on the bed and in a matter of 1 ½ pushes my baby girl was here and on my chest. Never could I have imagined such a beautiful moment. I did it, and all without drugs! I thank Valerie from the bottom of my heart, for being my constant, for encouraging me, for praying for me, and for being a part of such a special moment in my life. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a comfortable birthing experience.

There are no words to express how invaluable it was to have Val as part of my birth experience. Val was one of the main reasons I believe I was able to achieve a VBAC with my second son! Before the birth, Val and I met numerous times.  She met with me for many reasons - to give me oils to use, show me yoga poses and stretches I should be doing, and just to provide support and answer any questions I had.  Because of this, I felt completely comfortable with Val before the birth process even began, and she gave me the confidence I lacked about tackling a VBAC.  During labor, Val was there from the very begining providing support and encouragement.  Physically, she literally got me through 10 hours of unmedicated contractions by not only providing me with pain management techniques, but by showing my husband ways that he could help me as well.  After recieving a epidural she continued to be such a support by helping me relax, preparing me for the pushing stage, and by giving me constant encouragment.  During the actual birth Val provided me with whatever my husband or I needed while letting my doctor do what she needed to do to help make the birth a successful VBAC.

My 2nd labor and delivery was such a different experience than when my first son was born, and I truly have Val to thank for that.  I could not have been any happier with the entire experience, and I would recommed Val to everyone looking for a positive, empowering, wonderful birth.

Our entire experience with Val was so special. I felt respected and understood and cared for by her. She’s knowledgeable and experienced. She was supportive and responsive and available in the days leading up to the birth as well as throughout the time I was in labor at home, which brought us so much comfort. Her nature is calming and nurturing, and we felt that in every minute with her. During the labor, she was just what we needed – there consistently so that we felt her presence and benefitted from her suggestions, but also stepped out at moments that she correctly discerned would be nice for us to have just the two of us. When our baby was less than a day old, we were already saying to each other that we couldn’t imagine that birth or any future births happening without Val there.

I’ve been excited to refer friends to Val because I have seen and experienced what a positive impact she had for us on the whole process, and want that for others. While I don’t know what it would have been like not to have Val for the birth of our first baby, I do know that we can’t imagine it having happened without her, and we love that she was a part of the most sacred experience we’ve had together so far, and she helped in making it so for us.
