The birth of my second child, Luke, was a bit rough, but I am so thankful Jill was by my side. I went into labor at 11pm attempting a VBAC and continued at home until early morning. Jill met us at the hospital, where we walked around to keep things going. Jill provided amazing physical and emotional support as I labored most of the day. She helped lighten the mood when I got stressed, and she made it easier for my husband to assist me by giving him ideas of things to try. Her presence allowed him to take short breaks without leaving me alone, which he still mentions appreciating. After 19 hours of labor, my son's heart rate dropped to a scary level and the choice was made to have a repeat cesarean. Jill was right by my side and was exactly what I needed in that moment of perceived failure. She helped me climb back up and continue into a birth experience that was still positive in many ways. Her knowledge, personal experience and insight really catered to my needs and made me feel like I was getting the best birth I was able to have considering the circumstances. I absolutely cherish the memory of her presence and support throughout the day.
When we initially meet Jill, it just seemed like the perfect fit. She listened to all our questions and was willing to give advice and suggestions on our current situation. When we meet her, our baby was breech and we were still 7 weeks out so there was time for that to change. Jill's personal experience and expertise with c-sections made a great fit seem perfect, just in case this was our outcome.
After trying lots of different things at 38 weeks, we had to schedule a c-section. Jill was really great to provide questions and suggestions of what to think about and what to ask the doctor and hospital. Lots of things I didn't think of. She aslo was great at answering our questions and putting me at ease about the whole situation.
I somewhat doubted as the day approached why I had a doula, I wasn't going to be going through a vaginal birth and my husband and I would not need the support I had initially thought I would need. I was so WRONG. Having Jill the morning of, during the birth, and afterward made the whole experience so easy and joyful. She was there the entire time during my surgery and it allowed my husband to tend to our baby after the birth. She was there to talk to me and tell me what was going on with the baby and my husband. She was also able to take some very precious pictures of the birth, that I would not otherwise have.
She then helped with breastfeeding and the initial latch. Having a doula and specifically Jill at our birth and part of the process was such a great decision. I would strongly suggest her to anyone who asked about a Doula.
Working with Jill was a great experience. My husband is a little squeamish when it comes to medical procedures and unsure of all the options so he recommended us getting a doula. We met with Jill and decided she would be a great match for us. She was very educated with materials she offered both pre and post natal. She also was educated on trying different positions to help me be more comfortable since I had pretty close contractions with pitocin and felt the contractions in my back. She was also very comforting with getting me food, even if it was clear liquids, and refilling my water. Overall I would highly recommend hiring and working with a doula. Jill waas great!
My husband and I chose to work with a doula for the birth of our first child because we were nervous about the process and eager for knowledgeable support and guidance. We initially chose Jill because she had experience with high-risk births, given that I had gestational diabetes. Jill was the first doula we interviewed, and we hired her on the spot and never looked back due to both Jill’s obvious expertise and her open, genuine nature- you can't help but like her. She took the time to get to know our preferences, and personalities, our hopes and fears. We passed the weeks leading up to our due date in a much calmer state, knowing Jill was ready at a moment’s notice to help us through what felt at times such a daunting and foreign process. When the time for birth came, she spent the entire day with us, answering questions, advocating for our wishes, providing physical support and tips to get through contractions, and emotional support as well.
One fond memory from the birth was the afternoon time she and I spent at my bedside chatting about motherhood, giving me some pleasant distraction to dream about the good things to come. It was just so calm and normal that it felt very centering in the midst of a chaotic, uncertain process. She helped us feel informed and confident in our decisions and that made a huge difference. Later that night, after my c-section, Jill was instrumental in helping make my daughter’s first breastfeeding session a success. I was drowsy and shaky from the surgery meds, but she and my husband helped me cradle the baby and ensure a proper latch. Jill stayed quite a while after the birth was finished to make sure we felt comfortable. I truly enjoyed and appreciated working with Jill throughout pregnancy and labor, and would rehire her in a second. She helped our birth experience (throughout its ups and downs) feel collaborative and successful, and we couldn’t have been any happier with her!
I cannot say enough great things about Jill!!! Being a FTM with a husband that was scared as well we knew that we wanted help along the way, well I knew and drug my husband along. We went to meet the Doulas and right away i knew Jill was the one. I was a high risk pregnancy, due to 5 previous losses, blood thinners, GD, and IVF, so a Doula with high risk pregnancy experience was a must. During those initial meetings I knew she was the one. My husband can be a hard man to get on his good side but she did it right away and made the process great. We were both very comfortable with her and that helped me know I made the right choice. Jill made us feel at ease with the process, as best as we could, and we made a game plan for the delivery.
Then it came time to deliver. Due to the high risk I was induced at 39 weeks, so i was at higher risk for a C-section. We knew it was going to be a long process so we waited to call Jill till it was close to game time. That was almost a huge mistake. The doctor came in an attempted to break my water without my consent or knowledge, and without the meetings with Jill before the delivery I am sure my water would have been broke too early. My labor stalled because i shut down after that experience and we waited till that evening to try again. Jill stood by my side the next 24 hours (with a few naps here and there). When we eventually got to pushing Jill helped me move into different positions, suggested things to try and cheered me on, while helping my husband and sister cheer me on too. Three hours of pushing and intense work we welcomed our little one with cries of joy. Without Jill I know my baby would have come into this world and it would have been fine, but with Jill it was so much better! I got close to the birth i wanted. If we ever get to experience that joy again i know who i will be calling first!
