Annie was a wonderful support for the birth of our first child. Before the birth, she was organized, quick to respond, and accomodating of all of our needs and questions. She helped us labor at home for a good long while and was so helpful during contractions that I couldn't imagine riding in the car to the hospital without her -- and as soon as I said so she promptly got in the back seat with me and helped me through the car ride. Annie listened when we described what kind of support we needed -- I had said I would need help breaking the big goal of labor and delivery down into smaller manageable goals, and that's exactly what she did during the birth. We felt supported from beginning to end. I would recommend Annie to anyone, no matter what kind of birth you're looking for.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Annie. I had known for a long time that I would want a doula to assist my birth. I contacted Annie early on in my pregnancy. She was always available to offer assistance and guidance when I needed it. She gave me helpful suggestions to deal with my morning sickness early on. As I neared the end of my pregnancy she was always a quick text message away. As my pregnancy progressed, it became clear that my plan of an all natural birth may not be possible with the gestational hypertension I started experiencing in the last month of my pregnancy. Annie reassured me every step of the way and told me what the possible options were even before my doctor did. When it was finally decided I would have to be induced instead of having my baby naturally as I had planned, Annie was supportive and at my side throughout the process. She even missed going to a wedding to be with me throughout the birth (now that's dedication!). Annie helped show my husband how to apply pressure and support me during my labor. She kept my spirits up when labor got too painful and was extremely supportive when it got too tough and I needed an epidural. I remember as I was pushing, she allowed me to squeeze her hand and the support I felt in that moment was the reassuring comfort I needed to push my beautiful daughter out. The support and guidance I recieved from Annie was outstanding. I doubt, I would view my pregnancy and labor (especially the unexpected medical changes to my birth plan) in such a positive light if it had not been for Annie. I would happily reccommend Annie to any woman who is preparing to give birth. She helped to make my birth experience very positive.
I got the unmedicated VBAC I've been hoping for and I couldn't have done it without Annie! From beginning to end, she's was a huge help. In our initial meetings, she gave wonderful suggestions for pain-coping techniques, what to bring, things to do while in labor and more. She was super fast to reply to all of my texts- and trust me, they were at crazy times of the day/night, plus there were pretty crazy questions at times. I felt her support the whole time.
I texted her when my water broke, and she was prompt in meeting us at the hospital. (She would've hung at our house with us, but my contractions came fast and hard.) Annie was a rock during the whole labor- she showed my husband massages he could do for my back, and suggested different positions when things got tougher. Every time I said I couldn't do it, or wanted to give up, her kind eyes peered into my inner self as she assured me that I could do it and I WAS DOING it. She was wonderful at helping me stay focused too.
Right after delivery, even though I was still on a high, I was nervous about what the Dr. was doing "down there." Annie was right by my side, diverting my attention to the beautiful baby I just birthed. Her stamina, focus, compassion, and stability really helped me tremendously. As I mentioned before- I couldn't have done it without her!
We had a wonderful experience with Annie. She was reliable and helped us through a natural delivery at Bellevue hospital in Niskayuna. When I told her we were heading to the hospital she was there within 20 minutes and even beat the midwife to us. Annie was prepared and stayed with us for the entire 12 plus hours and had been in touch with me through text for 6 hours prior to that, while I was labouring at home. She had a calming affect on my delivery and helped both my husband and I to remain strong and focused. Annie has lots of good ideas. Be sure to ask for her lavender incense it really helped me relax and it helped the RN on duty too.
Annie came by two weeks after my delivery to visit our baby girl! You can't go wrong with Annie!!
We had a wonderful experience with Annie as the doula for the birth of our second child. When we first met with her, it was clear that she was open to and respectful of all birth choices (I had a hospital birth and epidural with my first and planned the same for my second) and was very knowledgeable and supportive of any situation. We chose Annie as our doula early in my pregnancy, right around the time morning sickness hit me and quickly progressed to hyperemesis gravidarum. Annie was extremely helpful and comforting as I struggled through my first trimester, offering many tips on how to alleviate my constant nausea. I continued to rely on her support throughout the rest of my pregnancy, but her strength as a doula became very clear during my labor. My labor progressed much more quickly and painfully than I (and the hospital staff) thought it would and as my husband and I panicked, Annie was able to restore calm when we realized I was till in triage but about to deliver, my midwife was no where in sight, and I would not be getting my epidural. With Annie there to support me and my husband, I was able to have an all natural hospital birth, something I had never thought I could do! Following the birth, she was very sensitive to my needs, making sure that I felt comfortable and taken care of, then giving my husband and me time to bond with our new baby. She continued to check in with me and offer support postpartum. I would certainly use Annie as my doula if I were to have another child, and I recommend her to anyone in any birth situation!
At 34 weeks and having just switched from my OB to a midwife, I felt I needed to do even more to make sure I had a better labor/delivery experience with my second child. I clicked with Annie right away. At our first meeting, she was very organized, listened attentively and was very knowledgeable. Annie met with me a number of times before my due date, helped me develop a birth plan, and provided me with information to prepare myself for the natural birth that I wanted to have this time around. She frequently checked in with me via text or email and readily responded to any questions I had. She even lugged all of her doula gear to the hospital two weeks prior to my birth for the false alarm that I had. When my son's birthday finally arrived, she stayed in constant contact with me while I labored at home. As the contractions got more regular and strong, I asked Annie to come to my home. Upon her arrival, she provided my husband and me with different strategies to deal with the pain of the contractions and immediately I felt better. When it was time to go to the hospital, she offered many suggestions that helped me cope with the pain I was feeling. She was very calm, considerate, and knowledgable as the labor got more intense. The encouragement she provided helped me to stay on track with my birth plan. When I said "I can't" over and over again, she assured me that I could. She also helped my husband be a more active support when he otherwise wouldn't have known what to do to help me. After laboring at home for about six hours and then another 3 in the hospital, it was finally time to push. Again, she was calm and knowledgeable and knew exactly what to say to help me through the pain I was feeling. My son was born about 30 minutes later. I know that I would have "given in" and strayed from the kind of birth I wanted (and gotten an epidural) if it hadn't been for her support. I'm so glad I chose Annie as my doula. She comes highly recommended. Thanks Annie!
