The disproportionate rate of postpartum deaths in Black mothers led me on a quest for a doula to help support my partner and I through pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Cassandra provided us with support during one of the most challenging moments of our lives and supported us in birthing our child free of intervention.

There were so many reasons we wanted a doula but it was Cassandra’s ability to support us in all of the unforeseen challenges during pregnancy and birth that made our investment a fruitful one. She provided us with 3 prenatal and 3 postpartum appointments. My father- in- law passed during our time together and she facilitated a healing art session for us to create cards of affirmation to help us heal and frame the birthing experience we wanted.

During labor, we were sent home from the hospital because we did not want to induce; as I was not past my due date and had been in pre-labor for only one day. During labor, she supported us at home through contractions and allowed me to move freely throughout my home and supported me with techniques to relieve the intense contractions. She was calm, affirming and strong. Our son was born at the hospital 5 hours after we were sent away. It was all that we could have asked for in a birth.

After the birth of our son she checked in on the baby and me -- while my partner was at work, she provided us with a delicious and healthy meal that met our dietary needs and performed a bone closing ceremony that honored the experience I had as a birthing person. I recommend Cassandra because the work she does is honorable and rooted in love. She was flexible and able to craft the skills to support the needs that I had as well as support my health and wellness.

Cassandra guided me through the birth of my first child and I am so happy that I found her! The prenatal visits she provided taught me about the stages of labor and what was to be expected leaving me prepared to labor at home for as long as possible before heading to the hospital. She was present at the birth where I felt her familiar presence and guidance the entire time, a welcomed energy among the heavy intimidating surroundings of the hospital. Finally, Cassandra was able to take my placenta to encapsulate which was a bonus service that she provides! She even made a tincture that I am excited to have.  Another highlight was the bone closing ceremony that she performed for me after the birth. My whole experience was such a positive one and I thank Cassandra's expertise and knowledge for helping to create a calming environment, I recommend her for any birthing person!!

Cassandra was the most calming source and holistic addition to our home as new (first-time) parents. We found her through the volunteer program and then decided to keep working with her as a paid post-partum doula. A lot of her values, including dietary preferences, aligned with us so that made it super easy for us to work together because it felt like she was reading my mind most of the time. I don't know how I could've gotten through the first months of motherhood without Cassandra. She cooked, cleaned, and gave me encouragement (especially when it came to breastfeeding!). And if I needed a quick break, she would hold and rock my baby boy to sleep. Cassandra is the type of person you want if you are looking for someone who is intentional and detailed - everything she does is done well and thoughtfully. Aside from the intense meal prepping she did for our family, she also encapsulated my placenta and made the umbilicial cord into a heart for my baby to chew on when he is teething!
