After finally getting pregnant I realized that most women tolerate childbirth w/ a huge needle stuck into their spine. I'm terrified of needles! My CNM suggested hypnobirthing & a doula. It sounded strange & at first I thought she was crazy! Then I did some research. Several weeks later Sarah walked in to where I work. It was fate! I was struck by her calm presence & obvious desire to help women. It was still early on so I took Sarah's info & saved it. When we were ready, my husband called & an appointment was quickly set for Sarah to come to our home & meet with us to further explain her services & learn about what we wanted for our birth story. Again, she was so calming & soothing & even before hiring her she showed me ways to relieve my back pain. I thought her aura is exactly what I need in my labor to help keep me calm & relaxed, but for good measure we also wanted to meet the doula my midwife suggested. They had similar stories but the other woman didn't have the same calm nature & I knew I wanted to work with Sarah. We met a few more times to further discuss my progress & desires & in the impending weeks Sarah contacted me regularly to see how it was going & how I was feeling. As my son started showing signs he was getting ready, Sarah was extremely encouraging & supportive that things were perfect & normal (it does get weird!). She was easy to contact with questions, & always gave more info on what to expect & how to keep encouraging my body & son to keep progressing. Long story short, I really didn't want to be induced but decided to at 41 wks but was very nervous about it. Sarah arrived at the hospital right before us & was there the entire time helping me through it & supporting both my husband & I. She was such a great help the entire pregnancy & delivery! My husband was extremely grateful for her presence & we will definitely call her again for baby 2!

When I found out that I was pregnant with my second child, I knew that I wanted to be supported by a doula--I am so glad that we met Sarah and decided to have her help us during our labor. From the moment that I met and talked with Sarah, I could tell that even though she had only recently become a doula, she already had the patience, gentleness and knowledge about birth that was necessary to be a great doula. My labor was not easy, by any means, but in Sarah I found exactly what I needed in a doula. She was there--when the rest of my birth team was getting much needed rest and my labor pounded on--she was awake with me for many hours on end. She intuitively knew what I needed at any given time during my labor--it was really remarkable. Her support never wavered during my several day-long labor. Sarah is so selfless, kind and dedicated to her birth work and I would definitely hire her again at my future births. She really went above and beyond and I couldn't have asked for a better doula!
