Tabare Depaep

I met Darla about three years ago at my DONA re-certification class and liked her instantly.  She brought her nursing son with her to the class, and over the course of the next three days she and I got to know each other during breaks and while playing with her adorable baby!

She kindly agreed to back me up if I ever needed it, and I promised to do the same for her (you never know, my kid might get a fever!).  Over the next several years we spent a lot of time back and forth chatting about our work, interviewing with the same couples (she usually wins!), and being a source of support for each other as well as our clients.

Darla supported one of my clients who went into labor while I was out of town (it happens! Babies don't know their due dates!), and she was lovely.  I actually ended up being able to attend just the last little bit of that birth and took the photographs for the couple, who were very pleased with Darla as their "backup doula!"

I finally got a chance to see Darla in action as a nurse.  My clients were very satisfied, and I was thrilled to have her extra pair of hands, and extra eyes on everything! The doctor already knew Darla and loved her, and two of the nurses on shift that night already knew and loved Darla, including our nurse!  It makes things so much easier when everybody already likes everybody!

Take it from me, a doula with over 200 births and over 8 years experience, Darla is the real deal!  I'm so glad she decided to become a doula, and it is so nice have her nursing skills as a bonus!
