I highly recommend Liz Bueno who was our fantastic Doula for the birth of our baby boy. This was my first child and I was keen to have a natural, un-medicated birth. I felt that having the support of a doula would be very beneficial and it certainly was! I attended Kyra Caruso's WalkTalkYoga classes during my 3rd trimester and both Kyra and Liz tag teamed the two prenatal sessions. Kyra and Liz were available on call throughout my pregnancy, always a supportive and calming presence. They helped us formulate a birth plan, making certain that our wishes were honored. I was keen to labor at home as long as possible and was able to do so with the support of Liz who came over when I felt things were moving along. She was able to guide my boyfriend and I through the contractions with love, kindness and humor. We managed to arrive at the hospital ready to push and 40 minutes later my son was born which was exactly what I had hoped for! Once home Liz and Kyra checked in with us daily by phone to see how we were getting on and offer advice on breast feeding and contacts for lactation consultants should we need them. They also came to visit a week later to meet our son and check how we were doing. We are so grateful to Liz for guiding our little boy into the world, and would undoubtedly use her services again.

Liz Bueno is an incredible doula and an incredibly special person.

When we first met her, we were apprehensive because she's younger than both of us, but her maturity and wisdom immediately shone. She impressed us by being thoroughly organized; being extremely knowledgeable about everything from hospital procedure to breastfeeding; having an unbelievably sharp memory for every detail (repeating things we mentioned offhand weeks ago!); and going way above and beyond in absolutely everything she does. She's so proactive that she was sending us follow-up resources right after we interviewed her, before we'd even hired her!

All this is great, but Liz is so much more: Funny and sincere, warm and intelligent, confident and capable. She will thoroughly assess you and your partner as to your needs and desires and then do everything in her power to fulfill them.

As such: We were expecting our first child and wanted to go drug-free, but I was having a rough time with the contractions from the start - they came fast and furious. My husband started getting nervous when I demanded to go to the hospital after just a few hours. Liz expertly managed to hold me off, helping us both with my laboring at home, supporting him as he supported me. At the hospital, she recognized when he needed a break even before he did and had him go eat so he could continue being there for me. As for myself, Liz kept me hydrated, helped me find positions that allowed me to power through and encouraged my baby's descent, massaged me, held my hand, wiped my brow with ice water, applied counter pressure, encouraged me, pushed me, and generally enabled me to make it to the finish line.

During the postpartum visit this week, she came bearing gifts (always above and beyond), including a video of the first moments of our baby's life and a four-page letter to our daughter describing her birth. She will forever be a part of our story; we are forever grateful.
