My husband and I wanted to reach out and share our experiences with Holly & Metropolitan Doulas I remember when I first called, I had no clue what kind of help we would need-I just knew that we would certainly need it when our Noah arrived. I am happy to say that you made the perfect doula match for our family!
From our first meeting, Holly made both my husband and I feel comfortable and confident that we were in experienced hands. Noah arrived two weeks earlier than our scheduled c-section, and Holly was there for us the moment I told her I was in labor. She even offered to help us pick up anything for our early bird that we would need when we came home from the hospital. After an emotional/painful four days recovering at the hospital, it was a relief to have Holly join us in our first two evenings home. Holly not only helped Noah acclimate, but was there for me as I healed from surgery/delivery. She was so comfortable with all of the chaos in the house-family members visiting, a dog and cat that demanded cuddles, and making my Husband feel like he could ask questions too.
I always felt like I could be myself-and I was often a sweaty, in desperate need of a shower, partially clothed new mom (lol). We had amazing late night conversations during feedings, and Holly supported my decision to exclusively breastfeed in every way she could. I so appreciate all the baby wisdom she shared with me. I think working with Holly has truly has helped me become a better and more confident Mommy. My only regret is that we didn’t get to work together longer, but I am so thankful that we were able to welcome our baby boy home with Holly there to watch over and guide us.
Thank you again!

We had Holly come a few nights per week once our little one was born. She was a great help in making sure both mom and dad got rest. Beyond that, though, Holly has become a great friend and a huge help with all the questions we've had as first time parents. She helped make this entire process easier and we are forever grateful!!
We immediately fell in love with Holly during a "meet the doulas" event in 2016, before the birth of our first daughter. We met with her twice during my pregnancy but unfortunately were not able to work with her during delivery and were attended by a backup doula. When we found out we were expecting our second daughter in 2017, we immediately sought out Holly and booked her for my delivery. I delivered with the midwife practice at GW Hospital in Washington, DC. Holly met with us once in person at our home and then met us at the hospital when labor was well underway. She provided text support the couple weeks before my due date and answered any questions I had about what I was experiencing as labor approached. Holly took special care to include my husband in the labor process by empowering him to meet my needs. She gave him specific tasks to assist in my pain management and supported us both seamlessly. I was walking the hallways, doing deep squats, lunging, and taking restful breaks when needed. Holly listened to me but didn't need to be directed. She was intuitive in responding to my body language. My favorite technique she used was gently brushing between my eyebrows with her thumb to remind me to relax and release all tension. We were talking and laughing between contractions and I actually had a lot of fun during my labor. After delivery, Holly was available via text for every question and concern I had about my recovery and breastfeeding. She also visited us a couple days after we left the hospital to ensure I was doing well both physically and emotionally. Holly's careful attention and direction made my second labor and delivery more than I had hoped it would be. She gave me the birth story I only dreamed of. Holly is more than a doula, she is a valued and trusted friend. I am eternally grateful!
I cannot say enough good things about Holly. Without her, I would not have had the natural birth experience I had hoped and prepared for. She was truly invaluable. I had a doula with my first birth, but ended up getting an epidural. Now I know why, because I didn't have the support that I needed. With Holly by my side, I never questioned whether or not I could do it. Allow me to share my experience.
I was told that my contractions needed to be at least 1min long, despite them being consistently 3-5 mins apart. After several hours of laboring at home, I felt discharged. My first labor stalled out & was 64hrs long. I could not do that again. I was ready just to go to the hospital to get medication & augmentation. Holly encouraged me to go to the natural birth center & assured me that we could always transfer to the hospital later. Her gentle encouragement was just what I needed. I am so grateful she didn't let me give in. As soon as she arrived she immediately put her hands on my neck & shoulders, massaging through contractions, coaching me to breath properly & relax. She didn't hesitate for a second & provided the encouragement that I needed.
With her unwavering support, our baby girl was born just 1hr 42mins later. I have no doubt that I progressed so quickly because I felt so safe & supported with her presence & coaching. She is the embodiment of what a doula is & should be.
I highly recommend Holly to any expectant mother. She is absolutely amazing. Holly is confident, experienced, kind, candid, and has a great sense of humor. She was able to work well with the nurses & midwife, providing me with a solid & calming presence. I truly cannot say enough good things about her. Thank you, Holly! You are fabulous!
I knew everything around the time of my birth was going to be complicated - I had just moved to the area, was living in temporary housing while we were purchasing a new home, our dog had been diagnosed with cancer and was going downhill and my toddler was potty training and starting preschool - but Holly helped make sure my birth went exactly as I had hoped it would. We met twice beforehand and I knew I would be in good hands given the wealth of knowledge and bag of tricks that Holly seemed to have. When my water broke earlier than expected and I was a mental mess, Holly was a calm reassuring presence. I had a doula to help me with the birth of my first child (in another state) so I had hopes and expectations that were more than met. And, to top it off, Holly got a fantastic first photo of my baby once he was born. Thank you Holly.
After experiencing an unplanned natural birth, I knew this time around I wanted to feel in control of my labor and delivery. I needed not only a birth plan but also someone who had the experience to help me implement it. I wanted a doula who would be flexible, supportive, caring and easy to communicate with. Holly is all of these things! Plus she had worked with my midwife practice before which was an added bonus.
On my delivery day, Holly was actively present helping me work through my labor pains. She also supported my husband so that he could be a helpful participant during my labor. She provided suggestions that helped both of us feel comfortable and in control.
Holly was not only helpful during labor but pre and postpartum as well. She helped me address day-of-delivery childcare concerns by putting me in touch with a sibling doula service. Postpartum, I had lots of questions about baby wearing. Holly brought some carriers to my home for me to try and also found a used carrier that I ended up purchasing.
Working with Holly has been great. My delivery experience could not have been better. I definitely recommend her.
Holly is an amazing doula. I had a very long labour, and had to transfer from a birth center to a hospital. Holly was there all the way for me, and I found her presence and humor very comforting. I deeply value her experience as a doula and a mom. I would recommend her as a doula to any expecting moms.
I was told that if I wanted to have an unmedicated birth I would have better success if I hired a doula. I looked into the possibility and interviewed Holly. Immediately, I was at ease with her and knew she was the person I wanted with me and my husband at the birth of my first child. She is just a very calm and warm person.
When I went into labor (DAYS before I had my son) she kept in contant contact with my husband giving suggestions and offering to come over. At the hospital, she massaged me and helped me to relax. She helped my husband to know that I was taken care of so that he could grab food/ go to the bathroom. While the labor nurse is there to help, Holly was there with my birth plan in mind and a focus only on me. She was always so calm. It helped keep me calm and relaxed. Then when things geared up during transition, all of the classes and training and everything I had learned leading up to the birth were very difficult to remember. This is when Holly was invaluable. She did my thinking for me. She never got in the way of the things that my husband wanted to do. She just kept our eye on the prize and gave me reasons to stay on track. After my son was born she stayed and helped facilitate skin to skin and breastfeeding. Her reassurance is what helped give me the confidence that we were on the right path and could do this! Also, it gave my husband the opportunity to slip out and grab dinner before the cafeteria closed. There was a time when things were dicey. She was so calm and distracted me from what was going on. It wasn't until the post partum visit that I learned how serious things were. Because of that, my birth experience was priceless, even with complications. I got my calm unmedicated birth.
I completely recommend Holly. She is calm, kind, and your knowledgeable personal cheerleader.
After delivering my first child with the help of a doula in San Diego, I knew I would need one for the birth of my second child. My first delivery was a wonderful experience, and I feared I would be disappointed with my second delivery. Holly ensured that didn't happen! She spent quite a bit of time during our prenatal visit getting to know us and what we wanted/hoped for from our delivery. During the delivery and post-partum period, Holly was amazing! While I was in labor, Holly was so focused on my needs, and on more than one occassion knew what I needed before I did! She provided physical comfort, emotional support, and when I needed it more than anything else, encouragement to move beyond the fear that had slowed my progression. During my postpartum visit, Holly helped me improve my little one's latch and referred me to my provider for what ended up being thrush. Consequently, I was able to continue breastfeeding as a great deal of pain was alleviated by the treatment. Holly is fantastic and she exceeded my expectations in every way! I'm so thankful we found her and I want her with me for all of my deliveries!
Holly was a wonderful partner in the birth of our second child. Thanks to her, my midwive, my husband, and some blessings and good luck from above, I had the picture perfect natural childbirth I was hoping for. She provided us with information before and after the birth and was comforting and encouraging during birth. My husband and I felt much more confident and secure with her there. One of the best decisions we've made!
I have nothing but incredible things to say about Holly and her services. Holly is a wealth of information, and has reassured me countless times when I was a brand new and very nervous momma. Day or night she was there to help. I 110% give her credit for getting me the completely natural child birth that I had dreamed for. Her lessons and support was exactly what I need to overcome my fears of birth. If you are considering a doula, she is totally one of the very best!!
