We couldn't have asked for a better birth experience with Bethany! Deciding to hire her as our doula & birth photographer to guide us this time around was the best decision we could have made! My partner was hesitant in the beginning at the though of a doula, and now, he wouldn't even think of doing it again without one!
Beth's calm demeanor and knowledge, made the whole experience, from the initial contact, right through to the postpartum follow up flow with ease. She offers expert advice, and a helping hand when required without overstepping in any situation, and has a very excellent sense for what is needed/appropriate at any given time.
Also her photography completely blew us away. Without even noticing that she was there taking photos, the emotion she was able to capture from that day, will be treasured by our family forever.
Both my partner and I would highly recommend all/any of Bethany's services!
I just had baby #3 and didn’t have a doula for the first two. I had epidurals with the others and decided that this time I would like to see how far I could get without one. Having Beth there was the absolute best decision I could have made, and I couldn’t have made it all the way to the end without her support. In early labour she knew lots of techniques and tricks to get the contractions coming more effectively that I never would have tried on my own. She was my advocate and reminded me that I always have a choice (like how often they want to check your cervix for example) and that I have the right to refuse anything I don’t want. As labour progressed she helped me cope with the pain by reminding me to relax my shoulders/face, breathe, rubbing my hand or hair, and speaking words of encouragement and affirmation. As I moved towards transition and didn’t think I could do it anymore, she kept me going. I don’t remember much of what she said at the end as I was rather focused on the pain, but one phrase in particular stuck out to me. “This baby will not break you” she said. And she was right. I would HIGHLY recommend Beth to anyone looking for an amazing doula. She’ll have your back, provide you with relevant information and support you in your decisions. She’s the best!
Beth originally popped up my searching for a birth photographer. I was 100% set on having a great birth photgrapher, which she absolutely is, and the closer we got to having our little one the better the idea of a doula sounded and when I met Beth I knew she had the personality to keep me on track. The fact that Beth is both a doula and a birth photographer was a big deal for me in case we ended up in a hospital and were limited to 2 people in the room, we'd have the best of all worlds.
Beth was wonderful going through everything we needed to discuss before the birth with us both and was able to answer all our questions and made us think of things we wouldnt have otherwise. I also ended up having her come to my house to do a Breastfeeding 101 course with me, which was awesome. I learned so much that I didnt have a clue about and she was such a great support when I had questions about breastfeding after the baby was born.
The day of the birth Beth was everything I needed and wanted. While I might have been very out of it and in my zone, I remember her constantly there at the early stages keeping my breathing on track which helped keep me calm and reminding me to use the TENS machine. during that time she also managed to get some beautful shots that I dont even remember her taking. For the pushing and after our baby was born she got some great pictures, some I still look at on a regular basis since they evoke so much emotion for me. Im so happy she was able to capture many of the moments that I either dont remember, or was too occupied with other 'stuff' and never got to see, like my babys dad holding him and my mom meeting her grandbaby for the first time...moments in time that cannot be replicated that she immortalized for us forever.
Id reccommend Beth as a doula, birthphotographer and her breast feeding class any day and am so grateful she was part of such an important day in our lives.
Beth is an absolutely amazing doula, photographer and person in general. She has the kindest heart and is very knowledgable about all aspects of pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, etc. I met Beth in 2015 during my first pregnancy and she was more than I could have ever imagined. She was my doula, birth photographer, new born photographer and quickly became a friend. She captured my baby's arrival and first family pictures so perfectly that I knew there was no way I was doing my second baby's birth without her by my side. My second experience was no different, with Beth being the most helpful and supportive throughout labour and delivery while also capturing beautiful pictures that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I am blown away with the extent of Beth's support and photography and I recommend her a thousand times over. You will not be disappointed as she puts her heart and soul into her clients and goes above and beyond to make sure you receive the support you need and deserve.
Beth reached out to me when I was looking for a doula for my special circumstances. I had to travel 750 km away from home to have my baby in Calgary. I was having a VBAC and had a rare birth injury from my last VBAC. Even though it healed the usual recommendation for this injury was c-section. I also have crohns disease and due to previous surgeries from that had no desire for yet another surgery. I set my mind to a vaginal birth with minimal intervention. When I was told my baby was small and I should have an induction that put another wrench in my plan. Beth reminded me of my autonomy the whole way. So I chose a gentle induction much to the OB's objection. I first tried a sweep to see if that would help and then had my water broken 2 days later. Beth was always on my side. She never told me what to do, only to advocate for myself. And I really had to fight for my birth. Not even an hour after they broke my water they were pushing pitocin. They kept coming in and pushing it on me so we made a clear plan and I told them to leave me alone until I was ready. Beth reminded me to collect colostrum and the stimulation from that kicked off labour 5 hours after my water broke. My labour was fast and intense and Beth supported my husband and I the whole way. She knew when to rub my back, and when to put pressure on my hips. She encouraged me when I wanted to quit. 4.5 hours later I was pushing and 10 minutes later out came my son. Hospitals are hard on me and I have some PTSD from past experiences. Beth put me at ease and helped me relax. She has an intuition and grace in her practice and she just fits right into your support team. She is an excellent doula. I would not have had the birth I wanted without her.
Our experience with Beth was absolutely amazing, and so much better than ever imagined! She was with us every step of our pregnancy and helped us in every way imaginable. Unfortunately she was away when I went into labour but had chosen the best person possible to replace her if the circumstance arose-which it did!
She was in touch with us and her replacement, was incredibly open with her experiences & her own birthing stories which made me so comfortable. She was so accepting of our choices & genuinely cared for my family.
Choosing Beth as our doula was the best decision we could have made, and she will be our choice once again when we decide to have our next little one!
Beth was a great asset to our birth team. During our pre-natal visits she helped my husband and I decide what was imortant to us during our birth and realise what we were willing to give up if circumstances lead us to make a choice. During the birth she was an amazing support and helped empower my husband. Beth was encouraging, gentel and a strong positive prescense. Beth helped us make decisions while I was in labour and while our son was in the NICU. She helped us post partum as well, through being an encouraging support person who I could call/text whenever and she was a wealth of knowledge.
I had the pleasure of working with Beth during the birth of my second son. She came alongside me during a very difficult personal time in my life and thankfully agreed to be my doula at the last minute. She was thoughtful and her experience really shon through. She was attentive and her sense of humor was appreciated. She was encouraging and checked to make sure that I had everything I needed. She was also proactive in offering things that I didn't know I needed. Aside from her kindness before and during my birth, what really stood out to me was her follow up in the post partum period. She came to visit me and checked on me by phone/through text during the weeks that followed my birth. Beth was very helpful to the medical staff at the hospital and drove in AWFUL weather to be by my side. I cannot say enough good about her. She should be your doula. I only wish I had known her for longer or earlier in my pregnancy. She brought light to a dark place in my life and quite frankly I have no way to repay her kindness. I highly recommend her.
