The terms that apply to your registration for the Birth Doula Skills Workshop.
Participation
This Birth Doula Skills Workshop is a training program approved by DONA International and the Washington State Department of Health. The 32-hour workshop is taught in-person over four days with an additional 12 hours of pre-workshop lessons (asynchronous content). This is an intensive format and works well for learners who want a rigorous, in-person experience that quickly and practically prepares them for birth doula work.
To receive a certificate of completion, you must:
- Complete the required 12 hours of pre-workshop lessons before the workshop begins. Every lesson and quiz is due at 7:00pm the night before Day 1 of the workshop.
- Attend every session of the four-day workshop. If you miss any content, you must make it up as described in Missed Days / Partial Attendance.
Participants who complete the Birth Doula Skills Workshop are awarded a certificate of completion and are ready to begin work as a birth doula. The certificate of completion is a prerequisite for pursing certification from DONA International or the Washington State Department of Health, each of which has additional requirements.
Registration
- The workshop registration fee is $800 per participant and must be paid in full at the time of registration.
- Space is limited to twelve participants per workshop. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and close one week before the start of the workshop.
- Upon successful registration, you will receive a confirmation email that includes:
- Workshop location, logistics, schedule, and supplies list
- Preworkshop workbook with required lessons and quizzes (12 hours)
- Access to all workshop materials (DONA International training manual, workshop slide decks, handouts, learning resources and Google Classroom content). You have lifetime access to all workshop materials.
Cancellation by Participant
No refunds are issued for any cancellation, including no-shows, regardless of when the cancellation occurs. Because registration includes immediate access to proprietary workshop materials - slide decks, workbooks, Google Classrom resources, and other learning content - the registration fee is non-refundable once a participant has registered.
- Participants who cannot attend their registed dates may reschedule to a future workshop by paying a $150 rescheduling fee. Reschedule requests must be submitted by email before the original workshop begins (see How to Request a Reschedule).
- Rescheduling is subject to seat availability at a future wokshop and is limited to one reschedule per registration. A make-up of missed topics counts as the one reschedule allowed per registration.
- All cancellation notifications and rescheduling requests must be submitted via email to kim@kimjames.net to be considered valid.
Cancellation by Organizer
- If the workshop is canceled by the organizer for any reason (e.g., insufficient enrollment, instructor illness, venue issues), registrants will receive a full registration fee refund or the option to transfer to a future workshop date at no additional cost.
- The organizer is not responsible for reimbursing incidental costs such as travel, lodging, or missed work time in the event of such a cancellation.
Rescheduled Workshop Dates by Organizer
- If the organizer reschedules the workshop dates, registrants will be notified as soon as possible. Registrants will be offered a transfer to the rescheduled workshop dates or a full refund if the rescheduled workshop dates do not fit their schedule.
Missed Days / Partial Attendance
- Because the workshop is in-person and hands-on, no partial refunds are issued for days missed once it has begun; missing content affects certification eligibility.
- Participants who miss any portion of the workshop must contact the organizer to make up the missed topics at a future workshop. A $150 rescheduling fee applies and is due with the request.
Weather / Emergency Closures
- If an emergency beyond the organizer's control (e.g., severe weather, facility closure) prevents the workshop from taking place, the organizer will reschedule it when possible. Registrants will be offered a transfer to the new date or a full refund if the new date does not fit their schedule.
- If the workshop cannot be rescheduled, registrants will receive a full refund of the registration fee.
How to Request a Reschedule
To reschedule your registration, please email kim@kimjames.net including your name, registration date, and request details. The $150 rescheduling fee is due at the time of the request, and your new workshop date will be confirmed based on availability.

Materials may not be reproduced, distributed, resold, published, or used to create derivative training content without prior written permission from Kim James, BDT(DONA), ICCE, LCCE, CLE, NA-C.
- Participants may not record, livestream, photograph, or otherwise capture the workshop materials (audio, video, or images of instructional material) for distribution or use outside the workshop without prior written consent from the instructor.
- Any curriculum, teaching methods, frameworks, or proprietary techniques presented during the workshop remain the intellectual property of the organizer, even if a participant later adapts them in their own words or practice.
- Participants retain ownership of their own notes and original work product created during the workshop but may not incorporate substantial portions of the organizer's proprietary materials into content they publish, teach, or sell.
- The organizer's name, logo, and any certificate of completion logo or badges awarded upon completion may be referenced by participants to describe their training accurately but may not be used in a way that implies endorsement, partnership, or affiliation without permission.
- Unauthorized use or distribution of copyrighted workshop materials may result in revocation of the participant's certificate of completion and/or legal action.
