Attends hospital births? All Hospitals I do not have a one-size-fits-all approach to birth. Every person is unique, and every birth is unique. I work well with all care providers. I encourage my clients to seek the birth experience they desire, and can help them communicate with their care providers their hopes and plans. I can also facilitate communication with the care staff at the hospital as needed. I feel having a doula at a hospital is so important because communication with staff can become confusing, especially with shift personnel changes. I emphasize that plans can change and I support you through all the feelings that might come with an unexpected change in your birthplan. Attends birth center births? All Birth Centers I feel it is important to bring a private doula to your birth center birth; while most birth centers provide doulas, they are sometimes required to assist the midwife during delivery thereby leaving the mom without the support she desires. In other settings where a doula is provided, the doula is not someone you've gotten acquainted with prior to labor, she wouldn't know your unique needs. Attends home births? Any Home Birth

Nanci was beside me with both of my children, counting down the minutes and seconds between contractions, making sure I had everything I might want in an overnight bag, and reminding me to breathe. My first born was brought into the world a little shaky. I had less support from surroundings and I was given pictocin at 7 cm dilated. I did have an epidural and because I was lying on my back during this escapade, my sons heart rate slowed. Nanci supported me the entire way. The love and warmth in her eyes is reassuring and is of so much comfort. Nanci gave me books about Lamaze and Bradley after my experience because I knew had I been a little more educated about Natural birth before my son entered the world, I might have had the courage to carry on from 7 cm to meeting my child with no problems. When I became pregnant with my daughter I was determined to take my time getting to the hospital because there would be no pictocin nor epidural this time around. I didn't have to ask twice if Nanci would be there for my daughters arrival. I asked Nanci before hand to remind me of my goal, of having the courage to move forward with an all natural birth if anyone pushed me to do otherwise. Sure enough I had transitioned into some pretty intense labor when the nurse started pleading with me to take something for the pain before it was too late. I was trying at this point to find that position I could birth my baby in and was having a little bit of a hard time breathing through the contractions. Nanci had me look her in the eyes and breath with her. She whispered, "you are almost there." Just a few minutes later I pushed once to bring my daughters shoulders out. The cocktail mixture of love hormones that surged through me was unlike anything I had ever experienced and I had so many loved ones around myself, including Nanci that it couldn't have been anything less than a miracle.
