Attends hospital births? All Hospitals
The most important thing I do for you is protect your birth space. I do not have a one-size-fits-all approach to birth. Every woman is unique, and every birth is unique. I work with clients to create a birth plan for any kind of birth they desire, from completely natural to those planning to use pain medication and up to c-sections. I work well with all care providers. I encourage my clients to seek the birth experience they desire, and can help them communicate with their care providers their hopes and plans. I can also facilitate communication with the care staff at the hospital as needed. I feel having a doula at a hospital is so important because communication with staff can become confusing, especially with shift personnel changes. I emphasize that plans can change and I support you through all the feelings that might come with an unexpected change in your birthplan.Having a doula at your hospital birth is more important today than ever before. The nurses may want to stay with you while you labor, but the reality is they can't, as they have several patients and a lot of documentation to attend to during their shift. As a doula, I will be with you throughout your whole labor and delivery, and usually at least one hour postpartum.
Attends birth center births? All Birth Centers
I feel it is important to bring a private doula to your birth center birth; while most birth centers provide doulas, they are sometimes required to assist the midwife during delivery thereby leaving the mom without the support she desires. In other settings where a doula is provided, the doula is not someone you've gotten acquainted with prior to labor, she wouldn't know your unique needs.
Attends home births? Any Home Birth
Planning a home birth is unique for each person and I will coordinate with your midwife to prepare a birth plan so that you are fully prepared. The only service I cannot provide at a home birth is a PLANNED unassisted birth.

Nanci was amazing from day one. I was really set on having a natural birth and being my first child was scared for what was to come and kind of clueless so I set out to find a doula. She was willing to come out and meet me at a convent time and place just to see if we clicked and we totally did. All through out my pregnancy she would send me info, links to articles, and lent me books and videos but what really made her so awesome was her personal support. By the end of our 5 months together she had truly made her way into my heart and felt like family. I had a lot of love and support from my actual family but nanci was most definitely my turn to person, day or not she was there!!!!  And when the big day came she was sweet enough to bring me food and even my family Starbucks :) (she loves her Starbucks-she always had one when we got together lol) and when our big "day" turned into a big 3 day weekend at the hospital she stayed everynight and slept in my room. unfortunately due to complications I wasn't able to have the natural birth I set out for but we tried for the first two days and she walked the halls with me probably a good 50 times coaching me every step of the way. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a doula!!! But she is so much more than a birth coach, with her you will also be getting a great friend.

Nanci was wonderful! She was available in our time of need! She's warm and friendly. Easy to relate to and non-judgemental. I think anyone and everyone would feel comfortable with her. She goes above and beyond!

I had gotten a list of local doula names and had already met with 2 before meeting with Nanci. Right away I felt a connection with her. She was very calm and easygoing and we had several things in common.

I asked her to be my doula because I really felt comfortable with her and thought that she would give me knowledgable but mother-like support. :-)

We met several times and she always gave me good tips and resources to check out and loaned me several books. She was in frequent email or text contact to see how I was doing.   I told her I was interested in laboring in water and she was able to hook me up with a birthing tub for my living room!

She introduced me to her back-up, Teresa, and I liked her too! But I was really confident that Nanci would be there for me when I needed her.

I ended up texting her at about 3 in the morning and she was at my doorstep shortly thereafter. She kept me going through my very looooooong labor...giving me suggestions of different things to try to speed things up and keep things moving and encouraging me not  to give up and telling me I was doing great.

I stayed at home all that day, in and out of the tub, walking, resting and finally decided to go to the hospital around 7 that night. Once we were there, she kept reminding me of my birth plan and encouraged me to ask questions to find out what choices were available.

She gave my husband suggestions for things he could do to help me also. She directed my family according to what I was comfortable with and she wasn't bossy.

I finally had my baby boy at 8:30 the following morning. She may have been just as excited as we were!

I could really tell that she loves the whole birthing process. She was a very calming presence and I'm very glad she was there with us.

Thank you Nanci!

Nanci was beside me with both of my children, counting down the minutes and seconds between contractions, making sure I had everything I might want in an overnight bag, and reminding me to breathe. My first born was brought into the world a little shaky. I had less support from surroundings and I was given pictocin at 7 cm dilated. I did have an epidural and because I was lying on my back during this escapade, my sons heart rate slowed. Nanci supported me the entire way. The love and warmth in her eyes is reassuring and is of so much comfort. Nanci gave me books about Lamaze and Bradley after my experience because I knew had I been a little more educated about Natural birth before my son entered the world, I might have had the courage to carry on from 7 cm to meeting my child with no problems. When I became pregnant with my daughter I was determined to take my time getting to the hospital because there would be no pictocin nor epidural this time around. I didn't have to ask twice if Nanci would be there for my daughters arrival. I asked Nanci before hand to remind me of my goal, of having the courage to move forward with an all natural birth if anyone pushed me to do otherwise. Sure enough I had transitioned into some pretty intense labor when the nurse started pleading with me to take something for the pain before it was too late. I was trying at this point to find that position I could birth my baby in and was having a little bit of a hard time breathing through the contractions. Nanci had me look her in the eyes and breath with her. She whispered, "you are almost there." Just a few minutes later I pushed once to bring my daughters shoulders out. The cocktail mixture of love hormones that surged through me was unlike anything I had ever experienced and I had so many loved ones around myself, including Nanci that it couldn't have been anything less than a miracle.
