Attends hospital births? All Hospitals
i'll start working with you as early as you'd like. the more time we have together, the better i know what you want. my goal is to help give your family as close to your planned birth experience as possible. In a hospital setting, this takes more planning and active advocacy during the pre-natal period and during labor. it also requires a high level of commitment to a natural birth. i will do my best to ensure that your birth plan is respected and followed. i'll provide you with the tools and information you need to navigate the medical system. we can create a personalized childbirth preparation plan that suits your idea of labor and delivery. i'll support and accompany you while you labor at home as long as possible. i can also attend OB appointments with you and give you the information for what you may encounter at these appointments, if desired. if you'd like to labor at home in water before transporting, i can provide a birthing tub. i do not leave my birthing families until you're ready for me to leave. babies born in a natural, non-violent, loving way are wired at birth to receive love, give love, and are ultimately the start of a gentler, kinder society.

Relevant volunteer or advocacy work

volunteer doula at Sutter Davis Birthing Center (Sep-Dec 2012) I have also done several pro bono births for families who were unable to pay. congratulations on your pregnancy! i hope all is going well so far. choosing to have a doula will help ensure your pregnancy plan is actualized. i've been studying midwifery for the past 13 years but found my passion in doula work. I've been "officially" a full time practicing doula since April 2012, but have attending many births over the years for friends and family. i've completed Midwifery 101 and 102 with Gloria Lemay, Carla Hartley's "Birth is Safe; Intervention is Risky" course and Jill McDonal's "The Truth about Oxygen" class. I'm also working toward becoming a midwife's assistant and hope to study with Ina May Gaskin at The Farm. i attend Midwifery conferences and read current literature to keep up on current birth related issues. doulaing and midwifery are my life, every cell in my body calls me to this. I am a member of several midwifery organizations and am active in advocating for midwifery care to be available to everyone.

My experience was amazing, we were a great fit. Teresa was competent and respectful of my birth plan and desires; she was incredibly supportive throughout my entire pregnancy. She was opened minded and shared her wisdom without reproach, ultimately my choices were my choices and she allowed me the freedom to make those decisions and she supported me. She encapsulated my placenta and made a beautiful gift out of it. I got exactly the birth I was hoping for and with her help and encouragement, I worked through the trauma of my previous birth experience. Her information is current and very mother/baby focused. She does not scare easily and is the perfect person to advocate for the mother that wants a less "clinical" birth. I felt very prepared for my VBAC and had all the support I could ever want and knowledge that I had someone in my corner to keep my journey on the path I had envisioned.
