Katelyn Ponsford Doula Profile

We recently had our first child, born April 19. We felt we were well prepared for the big day. We planned to have a natural birth. We were wrong on two accounts, it was neither a day nor were we prepared. Labour lasted 65 hours. Once we were told my wife was dilated 5 cm's I called Katelyn right away. She arrived very quickly and we're very glad she did.  My wife was having severe pain with each contraction, and Kately made it bearable by massaging her back while I helped my wife to breath. Most of the next 7 hours were spent with my wife in a warm bath with Katelyn right there attending to my wife. Despite immense and increasing pain, my wife, who admittedly does not have a high pain tolerance, thinks if it weren't for the next unfortunate incident she could have given birth without any pain medicine because of Katelyn's assistance. After a few more hours the baby's heartrate was decelerating. Unbeknownst to everyone at the time, our baby had his umbilical cord wrapped around his shoulder and neck. You could see the panicked look on the nurse's face and the calm yet urgent pleas to get a doctor in our room. There were many doctors coming in and out and saying different things to get the heartrate back up (change the position of the patient, let's try forceps, we need to perform an emergency cesarian, etc). It was a very scary time and I honestly though I was going to lose my son.  I tried my best to stay calm but on the inside I was choking up and fighting back tears. Thank goodness Katelyn was there as a calming factor. The emergency C section was performed and baby and mom turned out great.  Katelyn was there the whole time and was a rock for us.  I would not hesitate to recommend her to be your doula as she is competant, calm and very pleasant to be around in a real time of need.  She did an outstanding job.  Feel free to give me a call to discuss further.

Katelyn Ponsford was my doula when I delivered my second child. I had a frustrating and exhausting labour and delivery with my first born and I was looking for a different experience when the time came for my daughter was to be welcomed to the world. I had an easier and quicker labour and delivery thanks to Katelyn, her patient and caring nature was an asset in the hours preceding the birth. Katelyn was helpful and creative when it came to comfort techniques during labour which reduced my need for pain relieving medication during labour. Because of the help that Katelyn provided we all had a more pleasant experience overall. Katelyn was especially helpful with my three year old son, she answered all his questions with an age appropriate answer. Katelyn not only assisted me when I needed but also supported my husband as well. I would recommend to all Mothers to be and second time (or third and so on) Mothers to have a doula like Katelyn.

I had the pleasure of having Katelyn as a postpartum doula for my second pregnancy. I had no idea what I should expect or request from a postpartum doula, but I knew that first week would be difficult as my older son (who was 2 1/2) is very high energy and I was a bit worried about the recovery factor from my c-section. She at once set out to engage my older son, with toys, coloring and other activities, giving me a chance to sit down or even watch both kids while I took a shower. I can't even count the number of times she picked up randomly strewn toys or did dishes, or just watched my son play so I could focus on my newborn or myself (which I often needed reminders to do). It was great how she helped to explain things to my son, and just to be an extra set of eyes when I needed them. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Katelyn to anyone looking for a postpartum doula, especially with older children. Her background in early childhood education worked very well helping to integrate the whole family in that crucial first week.

Katelyn has such a strong passion for being an accomplished Doula and a certified Teacher. I personally know Katelyn provides exceptional care for her clients *(families) with all her knowledge, experience and support. Katelyn is a profesional Early Childhood Educator. I believe this has given her great insight & experience with her Sibling Support Program. Katelyn provides specific programs to each family with many materials & resources.

One of the things I liked best about Katelyn was her communication skills, she listened to me whenever I needed someone to.   Katelyn was always there to provide me with emotional support during my pregnancy. Katelyn always had great ideas, advice and information on helping us learn how to deal with our concerns and fears of my 1st pregnancy.

She was a wonderful addition to our team and she made every effort to make sure our pregnancy was a safe & happy a experience.    Katelyn has also provided us with excellent postpartum care. We truely appreciate all that Katelyn has done for my family and I that I would take this opportunity to highly reccomend her to any family who was looking for the best care possible for your family and your new Little One. Katelyn would be a wonderful addition to any family looking for extraordianary Doula.
