About Jackie Dives...
a wonderful person and a great help to our birth!
Our first exposure to a Doula was Jackie and it was an awesome meeting. More like old friends getting together after a long hiatus than anything else and that meant the world to us. It really did feel like she was meant to be there.
Then we learned that Sabina was breach.. Jackie dove in to the matter.. firing off email after email chock full of information on what we can do..
Moxibustion didn't work
ECV didn't work
~ and at the ultrasound for the ECV, the technician measured Sabina in the 97th percentile already.. and as a breach, that means a lot of pain and hardship.
~ the ECV was unsuccessful.. the doctors left us with one though: Cesaerian section. That did deflate us.
But not Jackie. She bolstered us and brought our energy back up.. she was really there for us.
Then the most amazing thing happened.. Jamie's water broke just after we'd crossed the threshold into 'term.' I called Jackie to let her know.. and she was packed and in our room at BC Women's within the hour.
The most incredible thing I remember was (there were a few complications and as such, it was decided that 90% of birthing would go on in the regular birth room.. the final 10% in OR) being rushed sleep- deprived in to the OR.. but I had to get into greens before.. so, Jackie ushered me in to the changing area, grabbed clothes for me and then, when I came out, grabbed my clothes and shoes.. said she'd take care of them (although.. I must confess.. at this point, I had no idea who I was handing my clothes to.. she'd already gone green head to toe.. I just trusted the sound of her voice and away we went).
Jackie wasn't just a part of it.. she didn't just come in at the end and save the day.. she was there from the minute we met at the cafe and she always let us know she was there. An integral part of the birth of Sabina Jaqueline.

My wife and I recently worked with Jackie Dives. This was our first baby so we were nervous going into labour. As my wife’s support during labour I can’t say enough about Jackie and having a Doula to support not only the mom, but the partner during the birthing process. Jackie was AWESOME. She stuck by our side for the whole 22 hours. She helped bring comfort to my wife and ended up also being an invaluable second set of hands to me who had to pack bags, draw baths, call the midwife, get the dog out of the house, etc. We would definitely work with Jackie again and feel eternally grateful to her.
