The decision for my husband and I to use a doula was primarily driven through my husbands unfamiliarity with the birthing process and our need to have someone there to support me and reassure my husband that what I was experiencing, be it contractions, nausea, pain, was in fact all normal. We decided very late in our pregnancy to use a doula and had only met her once a week before our daughter was born. Due to our timing, our doula Vanessa also had external commitments on the day our daughter was born which led her to calling on Randal to be with us while she stepped away briefly. Given that my husband and I had not met Randal and she arrived just prior to the beginning of the delivery, I was very pleased with how Randal jumped into the situation and was comforatable with both my husband and I. She actively worked with our midwife during the initial stages of my delivery. After 6 or 7 pushes, there were some complications with the heart rate dropping resulting in a change of plans. The delivery room went from Randal, our midwife and the nurse to having over 10 people all trying to assess the situation and determine a game plan. During this time I was very concerned for the health of the baby and it was Randal who planted herself next to my ear and told me everything that was going on, from the recovery of the heart rate to what was going to happen next. I was grateful for her stepping in and keeping me informed and trying to keep me calm. Randal was not able to come into the OR with us for the delivery, but took care of all the small details like where our bags where and holding jewellery while I was in the OR. I was impressed with Randal's professionalism and caring manner ~ particularly given that we had not previously met. I would recommend Randal and her compassion without hesitation.
Greetings!!!
I would highly recommend Randal Smith as a Doula for prenatal, birth, and postnatal. I have 4 children, 2 of which are twins. I did not know Randal for my first two deliveries and wish I did. She was a huge support for me while I was pregnant, always knew the right things to do or say. I was so nauseous and she knew just what to give me and help me ease those symptoms.
Toward the end of my pregnancy it was hard for me to get off the couch. Randal was right there getting me the things I needed and keeping me positive. When I went into get induced, unfortunately I had to deliver in the surgical suite just in case it turned into a C-section, which it did not. She was, however, right there waiting in my recovery room when I got out. I am so thankful and relieved she was there. She helped me right away with getting them to breastfeed. I was terrified to hold them together and she was right there helping and encouraging me. Without her I never would have been able to tandem breastfeed. She stayed with me the whole time until I went home and I was so relaxed and able to rest having her there.
She is the most caring person I have ever known. She loves children and especially babies more than anyone I have ever met. My boys use to just melt in her hands when she was with them. After I went home from the hospital, she came over daily to help and make sure I was getting enough rest. She helped me when one of the boys was a bit fussy (all the time); she somehow knew how to calm him and taught me.
I cannot say enough good words about Randal and her skills. She has 5 beautiful children of her own, and from them has learned many lessons a lot of people take a long time to learn.
Thank you Randal for being a part of my pregnancy, birth, and care of my boys. We wouldn’t have made it through without you.

I was so blessed to have Randal while giving a birth to my son!
I will never forget that day, when a few weeks prior to my labor, Randal wrote me: "I understand your situation and I want to help you no matter of what" I started crying and never stopped thanking God and her for being such a living soul. She was there for me from the minute we made an agreement until I was a Happy Mother on January 20, 2012.
This was my first labor and I had no family around... Randal's precense made such a huge difference. I think every pregnant woman will read through the lines now and understand what I am trying to say. When your day is nearing you just want to make sure everything and everyone is there for you and your baby. Having my Doula with me was priceless. She was so increadibly carrying,so extremely compassionate and warm. I was holding her hand from the minute my active labor had started and until the very end.
Right now I think having Randal as my doula was the single most important factor in my successful delivery. She gave me so much confidence before and during my labor. Her cheering words of advice and encouragement when I was pushing helped me to follow my body’s intense and overwhelming cues. And I will always remember the tenderness Randal showed towards my baby boy. She has continued to check in with me in after the delivery, offering help and giving advices. God, this woman has so much to offer, that you will end up falling in love with her. I wish every pregnant woman could have a doula as dedicated, passionate, and kind as Randal!!!!!!!!
She always will be living in our hearts and I know now, my baby boy will be eternally happy to call her Antie Randal one day!
Thank you, thank you million times!
