Client Testimonials for Teonia Burton
Fay Dacey
Teonia's support throughout my pregnancy and birth was incredibly helpful, and her warm, thoughtful and calm presence is greatly appreciated. In the months leading up to the birth of my daughter, Teonia made several home visits, even more than were in her contract, to help prepare me for labor. We also spoke regularly on the phone to discuss developments with my pregnancy, and these conversations were very reassuring. She went over comfort positions in detail, and talked with us at length about the desires we had for the birth. Initially, I was planning to give birth in a hospital, and Teonia was supportive and respectful of that choice. But later, when I chose to instead give birth at a Birth Center, she expressed her enthusiasm about this. It is to her credit that she allowed for this decision to develop on my own. In no way did she ever push any of her opinions about the birth setting on us. Throughout the entire pregnancy, she honored our plans for the birth. Teonia was truly supportive.
In the end, I was at the Birth Center only a short period of time before my daughter was born, because I labored primarily at home. It was in these intense late night hours that Teonia's presence and her knowledge of labor were so crucial. My labor moved along rather quickly, and I was soon having contractions one on top of the other. At times, I felt overwhelmed, by both the pain and the prospect of it continuing for a long time. Teonia's massage and her gentle reminders to stay focused on the breathing helped me stay grounded amidst the pain, and made it all feel a lot less scary.
My daughter was born at 4 in the morning, and I am so thankful to say that Teonia was there to be part of our birth story. Her knowledge, kindness, and consistent support made my first experience of pregnnacy and labor so much better, and I would highly recommend her as a doula.
