I used Stephanie as a doula for the birth of my first child.  Before I got pregnant, I knew very little about the birth process.  I began researching, and the more I read, the more I realized that I wanted a natural birth with the help of a doula.  I began my doula search late in my pregnancy, and first met with Stephanie around 35 weeks.  She shared my interest in research and provided me with many great resources.... books, articles, websites.  I was originally planning on a hospital birth with an OB/GYN, but as I progressed in my pregnancy, I saw a bigger disconnect between my goals and the goals of my doctor.Stephanie was very supportive during this difficult time and did not pressure me in any way but provided me with many options.  I ultimately decided to terminate care with my OB/GYN and transfer to a midwife.  I planned to deliver in the birth center instead of the hospital.  This was the best decision I could have made and I probably wouldn't have done it without Stephanie's support and encouragement.  When I went into labor, Stephanie came to my home to support me until I was ready to go to the birth center.  Her pain relief techniques and encouragement were so helpful.  Once we arrived at the birth center, my labor became very intense and she was at my side the entire time.  She helped me with each contraction, encouraging me, helping me with breathing, and using massage techniques to help relieve my pain.  Her help was absolutely instrumental in helping me achieve a natural, unmedicated birth. She took pictures (at my request) and surprised me with a wonderful slideshow/video.  She also met with me a week after the birth to give me support.  I would recommend Stephanie to anyone looking for a birth doula. She was helpful, well-informed, and very supportive.
