Debbie Lillig served as our doula for our baby boy born in November. It was our first child and, not knowing what to expect, we really wanted someone with expierence in caring and supporting women through their labor. Debbie was fabulous in every way. My husband and I met with her prior to the birth and she answered all of our questions and really took the time to get an understanding of what type of birth experience we were hoping for. When the time came, Debbie kept in excellent contact until it was time to come to the hospital. From the moment Debbie arrived at the hospital, she was an amazing support. I had a pretty long labor and she was supremely patient and encouraging. Anything I asked of her she would do and she was also amazing at sort of anticipating what would be helpful. She would rub my back, apply pressure or give me cold or hot compresses without me really asking. She was really great at letting me know how great I was doing and communicating important information about my progress in a really encouraging and positive manner. She was also attentive to my husband, helping him to understand exactly what was going on and inquiring as to whether there was anything she could do for him. Overall, Debbie made me feel supported and strong. She really helped me get through the really difficult parts of my labor. I had a wonderful experience with her and I would highly recommend her to anyone considering hiring a doula.

Debbie was awesome! She knew exactly what I wanted, and better yet what I needed. I had a 100% natural child birth, and her directions and soothing techniques honestly made the labor easy, if you can believe it. We were able to communicate to each other effectively, and she successfully involved dad in such a way that didn't make me hate him for doing this to me! Would recommend Debbie to anyone and everyone.

Debbie was our doula on January 17, 2012 during the birth of our daughter. We were lucky to give birth at Swedish Covenant Hospital where they have an on-call doula available. We had never met Debbie prior to the birth, but she managed to jump right in. Debbie entered the birthing room while I was already experiencing severe and constant contractions due to back labor, the baby was positioned sideways with her shoulder pushing on my spine. Debbie assisted us in trying many different labor positions and exercises to try and turn the baby into a better position for birth. She was able to provide massage and pressure to my lower back that helped with the pain, and showed my husband how to do the same. She supported me and respected my birth plan throughout. She was calm, cool and collected during a time that other staff appeared rushed and worried. When we share the birth story with friends and family, my husband is always sure to add how much Debbie helped him remain calm and help me through the labor. Although we took a childbirth class while I was pregnant, nothing prepared us for what actually happened in that room!

After the birth, Debbie stayed and helped me establish breast feeding with my daughter. Not only did she help us with the birth and post-partum issues, she made me feel empowered and proud of myself even though the birth did not go as I had planned. I was so happy to hold and meet my daughter, but I also felt sad and disappointed that I did not get to have the labor and delivery that I had dreamed of and prepared for. Debbie helped me begin to sort through those feelings.
