Relevant volunteer or advocacy work: For the past 10 years I have worked in social services serving those who live in poverty, abuse, crisis and ill-health. One year spent volunteering on a suicide prevention crisis line served this population also. As the Toronto Region Representative for DoulaCARE (our provincial doula association http://www.doulacare.ca), organizing monthly meetings for our 60 members means finding interesting speakers on topics that continue to grow our skills. Recent speakers addressed issues such as supporting a woman coping with grief & loss, how to get breastfeeding off to the best possible start, teaching new parents how to read their babies cues, safe sleeping and co-sleeping, cultivating understanding and respect for formula feeding mothers.
