Attends hospital births? Some HospitalsI volunteer with Operation Special Delivery. I am President and co-founder of Birth And Breastfeeding Enrichment Services (BABES) in partnership for Camden. Soon I will be actively volunteering with Care Net as well. My goal is to educate women so they can make empowered choices. A big part of my work is education. I am not a "birth coach: nor do I "lead" birth, I educate mamas and families so they can "lead" their birth. I believe women do not need coaches to birth. Instead mamas need people around them that will reassure the mama to trust themselves hence why education is so important. I do this both with volunteer work and with my doula business.

Harley provided a balanced blend of personal and professional touches in her work with us as a doula. We knew in one meeting that she was the Doula for our firstborn. She was experienced with natural birth which we preferred, and was a great listener. She offered consulting for the weeks coming up to the birth. Together we were able to understand some of the milestones, challenges, and events ahead. Decisions that affect the health of the mother and child are not to be put off until the day of the birth. She provided a wealth of knowledge and experience for helping us understand how to make a plan for our child. We are very inquisitive people, especially with this new experience. Harley was great with listening to our questions. She answered with care and tact. If she didn’t know the answer, she would do the research and get back to us. We benefitted as well from the network of birth practicioners that she leverages and supports. For all 30+ hours of labor, Harley was by our sides, coaching us, giving Jon breaks, allowing private time, being Gianna's advocate, providing full sensory support. Harley is the woman any birthing family would want to support them. As much as she is an advocate for the natural laboring process, she is understanding and supportive of allopathic birthing methods. She helped us harness the power of the birth. Her enthusiasm is genuine and her work is authentic. We are so grateful for her services and highly recommend her. We know we can trust Harley with our deepest emotions, we can rely on her to graciously express our wishes to others, and we will hire again when we are blessed with another pregnancy. Harley's work with us was the first positively accepted doula at the hospital and our practitioner’s office. We pray that the service Harley provides will continue to naturally grow.
With Sincere Love and Gratitude~Jon and Gianna Skates
