On the day of the birth, Kathryn behaved as my "birth planner" (like a wedding planner that takes care of EVERY detail on the day of the event so you don't have to). Her greatest asset was her ability to determine the next thing to do or say without me actually asking her to do them. For example, she would rub my feet, say just the right thing at the right time, SMILE at me, take me and my husband for brisk walks, ask if I wanted to change locations in the house, ask if I wanted to go in the bed, or change positions. Mostly I had a policy of not asking me any questions, so she would just throw things out in the air and see if I agreed. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. She never took it personally if I didn't respond, or if I said no. It was never about her and she made me feel like I was in good hands. One of her greatest assets was in the area of pain relief. Whenever a strong contraction came along, I would just call her name, and she was right there behind me applying counter-pressure to my back and hips. She was MASTERFUL at hitting just the right spots. She was my epidural. I really have no idea what I would have done without her. She even showed my husband how to do this, so he felt he was helping (even if he wasn't as good at it as she was). He felt involved through the entire process, which was very important to me. Kathryn made sure this was so. Kathryn was professional, caring, and always made us feel like she was 100% there for us. There was never an excuse, never a problem, never a "but." She was a "yes" person from the very beginning, and she molded to our needs like a glove. You won't find a doula like Kathryn out there, and we would highly recommend her for any type of birth plan.
