Claire Sax CD(DONA) Doula Profile

 I selected Claire as my doula because she was committed to helping me have the birth experience I wanted.  As my husband was also out of the country until 5 days before my due date, it was very important to me to have someone I could count on being with me during labor, especially if I went early.  Claire was incredibly understanding and sensitive to my unusual situation, and I had full confidence that she would be by my side no matter the timing.  

I could not be happier with my choice.  Throughout a 24 hour long labor Claire was a cheerful encourager and practical help.  From advising me on the phone when my water broke at home to the birth of our son, Claire brought calm to an exciting but stressful time.  She had such excellent rapport with the hospital staff that my nurse asked for her contact information because quote, "we need more doulas like you around here."  My husband agrees that Claire is worth her weight in gold, and I sincerely hope that she will be able to be our doula for any future births.

After the birth, Claire visited our home and helped me teach my son to latch correctly.  She also provided us with a written birth story which captured many details that I'd already forgotten only a couple weeks later!  

I whole-heartedly recommend Claire as a doula.

We're so glad Claire was present at our daughter's birth.  She was knowledgable and happy to answer questions before I went into labor and after my water broke--even in the middle of the night!   During labor and delivery she was a great help.  It was good to have her there for her experience, massage and counterpressure techniques, verbal encouragement, advice, and just to have another person to help me or give my husband a break so he could eat.  Claire really went above and beyond and pitched in whenever we needed help at home and at the hospital.   She was patient and encouraging with me and worked well with the OB and hospital staff. She stayed to help out for a few hours after our baby was born, and she has given great postpartum support as well.  Having her as a doula made us feel confident and supported during labor and delivery.  As I said, we're very grateful she was there!

We had a wonderful experience with Claire as our doula  She gave very thoughtful, well-informed advice during the time leading up to the birth of my daughter, and was very open to supporting me in the preferences I had.  She was a good advocate in the hospital and allowed my husband to be as involved or uninovled as he wanted.  She was also very professional, both before, during, and after the birth and made me feel very comfortable, even though this was my first child and I didn't know how it might feel to have someone else in the room with me other than my husband.  She was very calming during labor and was a great cheerleader and guide through the process.  I'd highly recommend her and was so glad we hired her to be our doula...

Claire was absolutely essential to our having achieved the birth we wanted. She was calm and comforting, with a quiet determination that things would happen the way we wanted them to. She was such a calming presence, encouraging me when I wanted to give up and talking me through each contraction. She stood up for everything we wanted in our birth plan and remembered things even I forgot in the heat of the moment. She even went out to get dinner when we were in a lull. She stood up to the nurses when necessary and kept me laughing when things got tough. When I was presented with choices by the doctors and nurses, she reminded me of the pros and cons of each choice and supported whatever I chose to do. She truly empowered me and my husband and I agree that we could not imagine having gone through the birth of our daughter without Claire. I hope she's available for our next child!
